My Sister is A Wiener, errr...ummm...I mean Winner!!!

I helped my niece enter her mom, my sister in a contest from the local news station, Today's THV - local CBS affiliate. The winner was chosen this morning and out of hundreds of entrants, Mandy's picture was picked to be the winner.

Photobucket
I took this photo last November when our daughters shared their birthday parties together at the skating rink. Mandy was helping Emily, my 2 year old go under the limbo stick. Keep in mind that neither of them had on skates! She did fall on her face, she hit her eye on the floor, but thankfully she wasn't hurt too bad. In fact, this photo was taken moments after the "crash".  I thought that since the contest was celebrating Mother's Day, it is only fair to post a photo of my mom.  Happy Mother's Day to you, sister.  Congrats!  Happy Mother's Day to you and Mom, I love you and hope you have a great day as well.

Mommies Don't Have Mommies!!

Photobucket
On Sunday night, Mother's Day as I tucked my 4 year old son, Tyler into bed I thanked him for the best Mother's Day ever.  I told him that I was so lucky to have a wonderful son like him and how much I thank God every day for my blessings.  As we prayed, we thanked God for my Mom (his Nanny) and my Mother-in-Law (his Memaw).  Afterward, he boldly stated, "Mommies don't have mommies!!"

I explained to him that my mommy was Nanny.  He laughed and said, "She can't be your mommy, she's my nanny!!"

I tried to explain exactly how it was possible.  My mom had me, then I had him so that made her my mom and his nanny.  He just laughed and said, "No!  She's just my nanny not your mommy."

I laughed and the exchange began between us "No she's mine - No mine!"

Tyler then proclaimed that he knew who my mom was and it was not Nanny 'cause she was his.  My mom is...Aunt Lulu (My sister, Mandy!).  Although I couldn't wait to tell her this, I could not explain to a four year old the fact that I was born before her so there was no way possible that she was my mommy.

It reminded me of all the times we were younger and people would ask who was the oldest and we would make them choose.  They would always think she was older and I hated it!  Now (three kids later) I only wish people still thought I was the youngest!

It's Just A Number

Photobucket

I have corrected the errors in the below post thanks to my lovely sister.  As luck would have it, there are 11 days difference in our daughter's ages.  She only has two children.  They are both old enough to dress themselves which means she has a lot more sanity time on her hands than I.  She called me yesterday and informed me that our daughters were not six, they were a whole year older than that...seven!  After doing some quick math in my head, I concurred and informed her that with names, birthdays, social security numbers, phone numbers, pin numbers, etc.  I was doing good to only be ONE number off!  Wouldn't you agree???

Generation Gap

Since I have a 6 year old daughter, I am familiar with a lot of the things that my 10 year old sister likes such as the Jonas Brothers. My little sister was wearing a Tee shirt the other day that had one of the "Jo Bros" on it which became the center of quite a comical conversation:

Jeannene: So, who's your favorite Jonas Brother?

Me: Ummm...well, I like the curly haired one.

Jeannene: Nick?!!? He's my favorite!!

Me: No, the older one with curly hair.

Jeannene: Kevin? He's old.

Me: Well, I'm old!

Jeannene: He's like 30 or something.

Me: Well, I'm like 30 something.

Jeannene: You should date him.

Me: Well, I don't think my husband would like that. Besides, if I were going to date someone, I would soooooooo date Zack Effron!

...and just in case you were wondering, the "old" one is 22. *grin*

Just playin' catch up...

Another weekend in the books already. This weekend was the annual "Higgins" family reunion. My little sister from Texas is staying with us for two weeks. She got to see family that she hasn't seen in several years. It was a fun time and I enjoyed being in the company of other CrAzY family members! I have uploaded the photos to Facebook and you can find them here. In the collage below, are my sisters and I with my Dad. In the bottom photo is my Aunt who made those purses out of juice boxes. The girls loved them! We do an auction every year to raise funds for the next year. I won't say what the purses cost, suffice it to say that the reunion next year will be nice! *grin*

Shelby lost a tooth:
Now she has no front teeth. It's quite comical to hear her say certain things that contain the sounds "th" and "st". I think she looks as cute as a button. Now she's missing three teeth total. Her bottom teeth have grown back, thankfully.
Emily (and I) got a sunburn:
I feel really bad about it. When an infant is sunburned, a parent can be the only one to blame. She usually swims in a float that is covered. The water in our pool was a bit cooler than normal and she wanted to be held. She and I were on a raft that sits in the water. We were in the water a bit longer than I thought we were. We're both a bit red. She's taking it like a champ, though and I can promise one thing...she will not be in the pool again without being drenched in sunscreen!

Overall we had a jam packed weekend filled with family fun. This has been a very busy summer for our family so far. It's tough to keep up with three kids as well as my sister being here. We're having a great summer and I'm enjoying my time with my little sister playing the Wii, listening to Mp3 players. I hope she's enjoying hers as well!

Meet My Sister!

In this photo with me is my ten year old sister, Jeannene. I got to travel to Texas with my Dad to spend the weekend with her. We had such a great time. I haven't seen her since she was 5. It was great catching up with her. I discovered that she and my 6 year old daughter have a lot in common. She is going to come spend some time with us this summer and I cannot wait for her to get acquainted with my kids.  She is a very well mannered young lady.  Her mom has done a great job raising her.

While we were in Texas, Dad and I stayed with his Aunt.  She is such a fun lady and we had a good time catching up on old times with she and her adult children and grand children.  The relationiship that they share is inspiring to say the least.  They all live close to one another and see each other (or talk) daily!  I hope that I have this same bond with my children when they are grown.  She was a wonderful host and I came home with a couple of yummy recipes that I can't wait to try out.  I only hope that they are half as good as the ones she made!

We had dinner at TGI Friday's where I didn't cheat on my diet.  I had steak and veggies.  Jeannene tempted me twice with a strawberry smoothie (my favorite!) and a cup of dirt (with gummy worms, chocolate pudding, and oreo cookies).   Dinner was delicious and the conversation was great.  It was nice catching up with Jeannene.  Her mom (Dad's Ex-Wife) joined us as well and the conversation was fun.  She's only a few years older than me so we had fun hanging out.

On Saturday we went to the Downtown Aquarium in Houston.  Jeannene definitely made Dad and I feel our age.  We were worn out by the end of the day.  She had a great time petting sting rays and starfish, getting her face painted, and riding a ferris wheel.  If you're in the Houston area, this is a great place to visit!  It only cost $16 to get in and it is good for all day.  There are lots of things to do outside including the aquarium inside as well.  We had a wonderful lunch at the restaurant located inside of the aquarium.  It was a bit on the pricey side, but the view was amazing and the dessert was out of this world.  It was a chocolate brownie topped with vanilla ice cream, chocolate and caramel drizzles and a shark shaped cookie.  The inside of the brownie was filled with warm oooey chocolate pudding and it was surrounded by Heath candy bar.  Yup, you guessed it...I cheated on my diet with this one!

Sunday we had lunch at a local Mexican Restaurant where I once again cheated on my "low carb" diet with enchiladas, queso, salsa, guacamole, and to top it all off...a strawberry margarita!  I haven't had the guts to weigh in yet.  I guess I need to bite the bullet and just start fresh.

It was a fun weekend, but I am exhausted from the 16 hour drive (there and back).  I think it'll probably take me a week to catch up with myself!  I have uploaded pictures to my Facebook and Flickr so if we're friends at either place you've probably already seen them.  If not you can click the pictures and it'll take you to to the Facebook album.

Are you Freakin' Kidding Me?!?!

Can someone please send some luck our way?! A 4 leaf clover, rabbit's foot...somethin'!

I got a call tonight from my sister that they admitted my brother into the hospital this afternoon. Apparently yesterday he went to the doctor with a sore throat. He was sent home with some antibiotics to ward off a throat infection. He woke up this morning and the whole side of his neck and face was swollen. He went to the Emergency Room and he was quickly admitted into the hospital. Many tests have been ran thus far and they have ruled out the obvious infection in his lymph nodes. My sister said that they were testing for leukemia.

On the way home from the hospital she stopped by and Shelby wanted to spend the night with her. She and her cousin, Katie are only 11 days apart in age. As we were packing her bag, she was holding her ear. She started whining a bit and said that her ear was hurting! She still wanted to go with my sister. She graciously accepted the offer, even though she'll probably be up with her in the night. She knew my hands were full with the sick baby. It doesn't look like I'm going to need Decaslim or any other diet supplement to lose weight. I think all of this stress just might do it!

It looks like I'll be visiting the hospital tomorrow and the pediatrician's office (AGAIN) on Monday! Seriously...someone send me some GOOD luck, please and fast!!!

Emily's Check Up

The doctor said Emily was doing fine and growing like she should. He actually called her "perfect, just like the other two". I just love it when he says this. I had a hard time leaving the office, though because my head was so swollen it would barely fit through the door. She got three shots and she handled them well. She was not too fussy yesterday afternoon or last night. Hopefully today she'll do fine also. She weighed in at a whopping 10lbs 14ounces. Her big personality is really shining through now. She loves her big brother and sister. They also love her. She's even befriended Oscar the wiener dog. I have a feeling that she's going to be quite the talker. She loves to have attention and she enjoys conversing, although it's unclear what she's trying to say just yet but still enjoyable nonetheless.

The End

Today was my last day at my current job. It was bittersweet to say the least. My sister has taken over my former position and I have no doubts that she is the perfect replacement and she will do very well. I'm super excited for her and hope that this position opens many doors for her.

The good thing about her taking over is that she went shopping with the boss yesterday and today not only did he buy us all lunch (my favorite, Mexican) but I was also presented with a basket full of goodies for the baby which contained a $100 Wal-Mart shopping card as well as a very sweet card signed by my friends, co-workers, customers, and even hubby (he's a customer) and he wrote the sweetest message inside that got me a bit teary eyed. *sniff*

I will still have my "mommy" duties of getting Shelby and Tyler to and from school and pre-school so I'll still have to get up and at 'em every morning but to know that I won't have the pressures of the job that I was in will be nice for sure. I will help Brien out at his office after the baby is born and we have some recovery time.  Next week I am going to try to take it easy and have some "me" time in preparation for this new little addition.  Daddy and Memaw (my mother in law) will have to assume the chauffeur role for a bit while I'm out of commission with the new baby.

For now, we're just playing the waiting game.  With little to no patience, this mommy does NOT like to play this game.  Hopefully it'll all be over very soon.  Stay tuned...

Conversations with Tyler

Last night I was laying on the couch watching a movie. Hubby was on the other couch being tickled by our 2 year old son, Tyler. Tyler then raised his Dad's shirt up and began to blow on his belly trying to make him laugh. I laughed from across the room and then Brien thought it would be funny to send Tyler to me for some fun. Tyler raised my shirt up and began to blow on my belly. But not before he made an observation.

Tyler: Mommy, you belly is SO big. *gigle*

Mommy: Yes, I know my belly is big. Your baby sister is in there.

Tyler: She's in here *pointing to my belly button*

Mommy: Yes, she's in my belly.

Tyler: It looks like she's trying to come out right there in your belly button.

Mommy: Well, I can promise you that is not where she will come out. *laugh*

Tyler: My belly is not big like yours, yet.

Mommy: I hope yours doesn't get big like mine.

Tyler: Daddy's belly is big like yours, but there's no baby sister in his belly, though.

Mommy: No, there's no baby sister in there.

Guess we both need to look into getting some Fenphedra or some sort of diet pills after this little one arrives.

Baby Update

We had an ultrasound today. We discovered something VERY important about baby girl. She is just like her big brother and sister. She is stubborn! Yup, she had her little arms in front of her face with those fists of fury covering that beautiful mug and we could NOT get a shot 4D or otherwise of her face. So, I have no beautiful shot to show you. I can only say that everything looks fine! She is measuring about a week later than what she did last time, so her birthday might be sometime in September rather than August. She might be born on her Nannie or Aunt Lou Lou's birthday! We'll see.

Saturday Photo Hunt - Bad Hair

My 57th
This Week's Theme: Bad Hair
SPH Headquarters ~ The Other 56

She is going to kill me for posting this picture for the world to see, I just know it. Well, maybe I'll get a free pass this time since I'm still carrying her niece but if you guys don't hear from me after this baby is born, you'll need to look her up! This is my sister and I from way back in the day. I don't know why in the world we had hair cuts like this (well, I think there's a story about a grandma cutting it while she had us, but I'm not sure). Anyhow, this is some truly BAD hair, here. Needless to say, we both have way better dos now. In fact, her hair is awesome. Love ya sis! Actually I don't know what's worse...the bad hair or the bad shirts, can you see my rainbow belt?! Gasp!!

Oh what a night!

Yesterday when I got off work, I met a family member who was taking Tyler for the weekend. They had plans to go to the horse sale which Tyler loves. Shelby and I were headed to see my brother, his wife, and their new baby. I didn't get to hold Reagan the day she was born, so I thought I'd go get my turn since the visitation had died down a bit. I was going to take the new parents some dinner. Shelby and I were in line at one of those drive throughs that you can not get out of until after you place your order when I received a phone call from my sister. She informed me that she was headed to the hospital. I joyfully announced that I was headed there myself, in fact I was almost there. I could then hear the panic and fear in her voice. It turns out that she and my mom were headed there due to a frantic call they had gotten from my little sister. She said that her middle son, 17 month old Dominique, got "choked" and they had him in an ambulance headed to the hospital. At this point in the conversation with my sister, they had no idea of the current medical condition of this child. I deeply swallowed and asked her, "Is he alive?" As soon as the words came out of my mouth, I felt a lump in my throat. Shelby was in the back seat asking, "Mommy, what's wrong?!" I was trying to keep my calm because I could tell that my sister was very panicked and I didn't want to upset my daughter at this point. My sister told me that all they would say was that they were on their way to the hospital. They were both frantic and she couldn't get anything out of them. I told my sister that I would get out of line at the restaurant as quickly as I could. While I sat there behind the person making their decision at the loud speaker as to which value meal they wanted I thought to myself that my sister was at the hospital and I didn't know whether or not her baby boy was dead or alive. Those minutes I waited behind this person to pull up so that I could get out of line seemed like hours. I was about three minutes from the hospital at this point. I informed Shelby that Dominique was on his way in an ambulance to the hospital so we needed to go there quickly. We would come back later and get something to eat. She didn't ask any more questions and I tried to drive quickly but cautiously to the hospital all the while thoughts were running through my head. They weren't good thoughts either. Theresa is my sister who just had a baby boy a few weeks ago. They've discovered that he has some sort of a thyroid problem so she's been very worried and stressed about all of this already and now to deal with this. I just couldn't keep myself from worrying about her. As we entered the Emergency Room I spotted her in a small room giving vital information to a woman behind a desk. Beside her stood my brother, her twin (who was already at the hospital due to the birth of his baby the day before). I began to ask questions and he was trying to usher me out of the room. This made me a bit frustrated, but later he told me that he was afraid that I was going to upset her again. My main concern was is this baby alive?! When I found out he was, I quickly dialed my sister who was so relieved and I could hear the sigh followed by hysterical cries of my mother in the vehicle with her when she blurted out to her that he was okay. After a few hours of waiting and several viles of blood and chest X-rays later it turns out that he was not choked at all, rather he had a febrile seizure. These fevers are caused by high fevers, commonly over 102°. Symptoms of these types of seizures include breathing heavily, drooling, turning blue, rolling back his eyes, or shaking arms and legs uncontrollably. This is exactly what my sister had informed us that her son was doing in the back seat of her car as she went to unload him at her mother in law's house. I can only imagine the fear that my sister experienced and I could not wish that on anyone! Thank goodness the little guy is better now. He does have the flu, so hopefully he'll get over it quickly and it won't spread to the other children.

As for the new baby, Reagan I did get to hold her. She is a sweet heart. She has a very whimpy cry, though. I told her that she was going to have to work on that one. But, I'm assuming that since she's only 4lbs 12oz her little tiny voice will catch up with her eventually. For now, she has very proud parents, grandparents, uncles, and for sure one very proud aunt! I love her to pieces already and I can't wait to spoil this beautiful little girl!!! :)

New Additions

I haven't talked about it much, but I am very excited that I am going to be an aunt AGAIN! :) This time we are expecting two new additions. My sister is expecting her third child. She has a two year old daughter, a one year old son, and is now expecting another bouncing baby boy. My sister in law and brother (who is a member of the guard and is about to be deployed to Kuwait) are expecting their first child. A beautiful baby girl. They lost a child two years ago in November. So, we are all very excited about these newest additions in our family. I'm looking forward to all of the cute baby clothes like the shirt pictured above! :)
