Yes I do!!!

I went to a water park with my three children yesterday and I realized, I am getting old! I can't handle the heat like I used to. I was worn out by the end of the day yesterday. We all had a fun time and managed to avoid overexposure to the sun. We went through a lot of sunscreen. We reapplied every time it crossed my mind!

Today we are celebrating the holiday weekend at my sister's house ending the evening with fireworks. I am in the process of making some fresh home made salsa. I have cut and chopped almost a whole box of tomatoes and decided to take a coffee break before slicing the onions, garlic, and jalapenos! What are you doing to celebrate this holiday weekend? Summer Sunburns, Rain, and Funny Stuff.

For those of you wondering, my back is much better! The pain has been replaced by an itch that of course cannot be scratched. The majority of the burn was right in the middle of my back, you know that one place you cannot reach?! Of course when I enlist one of the kids to aid in scratching they can never seem to hit that one spot that really itches. My skin is also peeling, so that makes it more itchy and uncomfortable! Thankfully, though it is healing and I appreciate all of the sweet thoughts and comments during my healing. I have the greatest friends and family ever!

Meanwhile, summer is rolling along quite nicely. Since I have moved the office back home, I am spending lots of time with the kiddos. Some days this is great and some days it makes me want to pull my hair out...and not just the gray hair that it's causing me! I was told by my 2.5 year old yesterday that I was "annoying her...sewiously"! The same one who asked me as some thunderstorms rolled through the area if we needed to get our life jackets on. I wondered if maybe we had prayed a little too hard for rain and perhaps our she was channeled in with ole Noah and he had given her some sort of forewarning about the coming weather! The rain was much needed and we did have to cancel our plans to go to the water park. But we were thankful for a little drink for our trees who were steadily dropping leaves. Although the yard seemed to grow a foot over night, I am sure it needed it too...even though it just seems to make for more work! Hope your week is progressing nicely. Happy Hump Day everyone!

Summer Family Outdoor Health and Safety Gear

Since we have an above ground pool, the child immersion alarm was something that really piqued my interest. My 2 year old has climbed the ladder to the pool before, but never gotten in without supervision. I think as parents, we always think that our children are always well protected and supervised but the truth is that drowning is one of the top 5 accidental deaths in the US.

There is also a pet immersion alarm. There are breeds of dogs that cannot swim. Bassett Hounds and English Bulldogs, dogs with short legs aren't built for swimming and generally have a hard time doing so. If they were to fall into deep water, they might not be able to get out. By putting the safety turtle on their collar, it could potentially save their life.

This is an awesome product! It is easily transported with the carry bag. Although it's longer than your typical camping chair, it carries just as easily. You can fit two collapsible camping chairs and a small table under this umbrella. It can be used at sporting events as well as camping. The stakes are awesome if using on a windy day. We also like the zippered windows so that you can let air flow through on those hot summer days.

The Sport-Brella Chair - This is the ultimate chair for any outdoor setting. This chair is the bomb-diggity!!! It is pretty stinkin' awesome! The only thing I regret about this chair is that we just finished up our baseball season. I can guarantee that next year this chair will be at the ball fields every time I am! Not only is the chair easily transported in a carry bag, has lots of pouches, cup holders, and the likes, but it also has an extra lumbar support in the back. This spoke volumes to me!! I find those camping type chairs to be generally not so comfortable, but this chair is somewhat over sized and the lumbar support is very comfortable. Since I no longer have a baby, this is not much of an issue with me these days. I do have a toddler, however and she's been known to fall asleep in all sorts of crazy times and positions so this could potentially be handy should she fall asleep on the beach or at the pool and we aren't able to apply sunscreens on her.

T-Ball 2011 is in the history books!

Tyler has finished his first year of baseball. T-ball was a blast for the entire family. He had an awesome coach who worked hard with the boys to help them learn the fundamentals of the game as well as how to bat, catch, etc. Tyler really enjoyed himself this season on Team Simmons First. He received a medal and a trophy at the end of the season. He was very proud. He has already scoped out a place on his wall where he wants to put a shelf for all of his trophies. He insists there will be many more baseball trophies!

I think we also have a future baseball player on our hands! Little Emily didn't hesitate to scoop up Tyler's glove and play a little ball herself after the boys finished playing.

She played so well she thought she deserved a medal and trophy!

Needless to say we were a sad bunch as we left the ball fields for the last time this season. Tyler asked, "Mom so it will be a whole 'nother school year until next summer when I get to play ball again?" I replied with a sad heart myself, "Yes it will son, yes it will". Until then we've got lots of practice time and of course tons of pictures to reminisce on.

Ouch!

Yup, this is my back. Yup, it is severely sun burned. Yup, it reeeeeeaaaly hurts! I know, I know...I should have used sunscreen. The truth is, I DID! Only I sprayed it on my shoulders (and the top of my back, you see where the red line starts on top?) I was out cleaning the pool and had on a different swimsuit than I usually wear. It comes down farther on my back. There were parts of my back that were exposed to the sun that hadn't seen daylight in a while, so long story short, I am in a lot of pain! I am grateful for my family who have diligently rubbed silvadene cream and aloe vera with litacane gel on my back and placed vinegar soaked brown paper bags every few hours. I am one dye tablet away from being an easter egg, but believe me it sure helps take out the sting. Just call me Tisha the Pickle. Hopefully in a few days it will feel much better. Please keep me (and my wonderful family) in your prayers. I am so thankful that I have a loving, caring husband who is willing to take such good care of me, and a sister who went out to get the cream when she couldn't get her stubborn sister to go to the doctor. I do feel like a big goof for letting this happen. In the coming days, I know the discomfort will go from pain to itch, and hopefully there will be no permanent damage. Summer Fun

So far we've enjoyed some fun things including a quick trip to the Memphis Zoo (as mentioned in the previous post), a free magic show at the park sponsored by the Searcy Public Library. The kids really enjoyed this event and the best part about it was that it was FREE! This week we will be attending another magic show as well as Kids Summer Show at Searcy Cinema 8 where they will be showing Ramona and Beezus. You can see the schedule for the remainder of the summer by clicking this link. Admission is only $2, coke and popcorn is a buck! That's a deal you just can't beat. Doors open at 11 on Wednesday and Thursday. We also visited Splash Zone in Jacksonville. It was loads of fun for the kids. Welcome to Bawlmer, Hon!

I made it to Baltimore!! I am enjoying some bestie time with my B/F of 21 years, Becca. You might recall me mentioning previously that my wonderful hubby got me a trip to visit her for Christmas last year. I didn't want to visit in the Arctic temperatures and forty feet of snow (okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit there but I'm from Arkansas, so one foot to us is like forty feet to you Northerners!) We shot for early June so that we could go out and about and do fun things without having to be miserably hot. Wow, were we horribly wrong about that one!! Maryland (along with Arkansas) is having record breaking temperatures, with heat indexes well over 100. Insane! Today we are traveling via bus to New York City where the temperature will be 100°! YES, I SAID ONE HUNDRED DEGREES!!! Thankfully tomorrow it will only be 80, but I think that is due to rain, so I'm not sure what tomorrow will hold. But we will be seeing a Broadway show, so that will (hopefully) be air conditioned and maybe we can cool down a bit. Anyhow, I am VERY MUCH looking forward to the NYC visit. I've never been. We are spending the night there and staying in a hotel on Times Square! Whoo hoo!!! Small town girl visits big city, tomorrow's headlines. ;)

So, anyhow back to my Baltimore visit. Yesterday, Becca and I had a low key morning. She did some work from home while I watched television and kicked back. We met up with a friend of hers for dinner, but first we did a little bit of boutique style shopping which included Hon Town. It is an awesomely fabulous retro-style shop. In preperation for Baltimore's Famous "Hon Fest", Becca and I tried some retro-styles. What is Hon Fest, you ask...well, I did and this is what I found: Although nowadays the city is extremely culturally diverse, the lasting image of Baltimoreans seems to be the "Hon" culture exemplified most markedly by the longer established families and residents of the Highlandtown, Canton, Locust Point, Hampden and Pigtown neighborhoods. Between the 1950s and 1970s, it was common to see working class local women dressing in bright, printed dresses with out-dated glasses and beehive hairdos. Men were often dressed casually, but with a general factory or dock worker look, as many in town did indeed have such jobs.

The name of the culture comes from the often parodied Baltimore accent and slang. "Hon" (pronounced /ˈhʌn/,[dubious – discuss] an abbreviation of "Honey") was a common informal name for someone else. Baltimore’s accent exemplifies a dialectal continuum between Tidewater American English, a southern American dialect, and Delaware Valley American English, a common coastal dialect, loosely possessing the vowel shifts of the former and general pronunciation of the latter. For instance, "Baltimore" is pronounced "Baldimore" or even "Balmer," and "Maryland" becomes "Murland," "Murlan," or "Merlin." Other common pronunciations include "ool," "amblance," "wooder," "warsh," "sharr or shaow," "dug," "couwny," "tew," and "zinc" (oil, ambulance, water, wash, shower, dog, county, two, and sink respectively). There is also a popular summertime phrase, "goin' downy ayshin" (going down to the ocean, usually referring to Ocean City, MD).

After a bit of shopping we had dinner at Mr Rain's Fun House located at The American Visionary Art Museum that boasts a very culturally diverse menu pleasing not only to the eyes, but to the pallete as well! My entree of choice (after much deliberation) was the Veal Loin Chop with Polenta cakes and bayby patty pans in a demi glace. When it arrived, it was so beautiful, I almost didn't want to eat it, however that passed very quickly. The chop was cooked to perfection and full of flavor. The Polenta cakes and bayby patty pans were bursting with flavor, and I left out of there a happy woman! Of course I had to pose for a picture on the way out. No, this is not Lady Gaga in case you were wondering. Just one of many statues you will find at the American Visionary Art Museum.

This year will be the first year all three of my children will be home all summer. In the past we've had an office outside of the home and I would work there, taking the oldest child while the other two continued daycare through the summer months. Tap Tap Is This Thing On?!

Wow, it's been 17 days since my last post! There was a time when I would post two - three posts a day and now this. I never thought I'd see the day where I'd have to come and sweep out cob webs at CrAzY Working Mom. Lots of exciting things have been going on with us. Tyler is a full blown T-Ball player. I can't believe I haven't been posting EVERY day about that. But, he loves it and I love being a T-Ball Momma! I am proud of my little man. Brien has been helping the team in the dug out and coaching out in the field when needed. He really enjoys that also.

The kids are working on their last full week of school and they are stoked about summer. I will be visiting my B/F/F in Baltimore and we're taking a trip to NYC next month!!! I am more than excited about it. When I get back from that trip, my sister Jeannene will be visiting us again for a few weeks. We are looking forward to seeing her as well.

I will try my best to update here. But, suffice it to say that I am enjoying life and living it to the fullest. The time I get to spend with my family is irreplaceable and I am so happy that I can enjoy them each and every day!

Don't Pee In The Holy Water

Yesterday in the swimming pool, all was right with the world as I floated on my raft soaking up the sun. I heard Tyler tell Shelby he was going to Baptize her in the pool. She agreed only if she could do the same to him. I snapped this photo (with my Iphone) as the ceremony began.

They would hold one another's nose and then push them off the ladder into the water. Thank goodness real baptisms don't go this way! It went on this way for a few minutes until one pushed another a bit too hard and then (as usual!) it ended in fighting, so we had to move on to something else and the ladder was banned for a while.

Summer Is Here!

Whoo hoo, it's hot folks. I'm talking stick your head in the freezer and stay there 'till September kind of hot! Tonight at 8pm it was still 96°! That is just completely and totally insane. It's been hot for weeks and yesterday was officially the first day of summer. I think by the end of summer it will be at least 210°. *sigh*

I haven't updated very much as of late because there are lots of things going on around here. Shelby is out for the summer. She was promoted to 2nd grade. She almost made the all A honor roll. She was two points away from an A in math the last 9 weeks. Drat! We're very proud of her.

Tyler is attending summer school. He scored a little lower on the pre-screening for summer school than they like for them to, so they recommended summer school. It was no surprise because Shelby also attended summer school before Kindergarten. Tyler will just barely meet the cut off. He is still only 4 and will turn 5 only days before school starts. So, he will be a young one. He is super excited about starting Kindergarten and is doing really well in summer school.

Emily is growing like a weed. Her personality is really developing. She's definitely reached the "terrible twos" already!!! She's got a very short temper. I can't imagine where she gets that from. *grin* She has quickly turned from a shy, sweet little girl to an aggressive, hitting big bully! She reminds me so much of Tyler. She tests my patience daily. For as sweet as she can be, she can also be a little devil! She's also quite the Tom-Boy! She'd rather play in Tyler's room with his cars and trucks than in hers with baby dolls and the likes. It's quite comical.

My 11 year old sister is also visiting from Texas. She gets to stay a month here in Arkansas. Most of her time has been spent here with us. It's been nice having her here. Since she lives so far away we don't get to spend much time with her so we're taking advantage of every minute we can. Having an extra kid here is a bit trying for me with the extra laundry, food, etc. It is also tough because the dynamic of the household changes with an "extra". The kids fight with each other (A LOT). I pray daily for courage and wisdom to treat them all with kindness, love and fairness. It's tough but I think we're managing pretty well. When you say your prayers tonight, give me a mention if you don't mind.

To sum it up, things here are HOT, busy, trying, but very BLESSED!!! Oh, did I mention that it's HOT?!

I'm Overrun with Insurgents!

Okay, before the haters hit the comment button, this is by no means posted here poking fun at any government agency, political party, or the like! I came across this today and chuckled. This cartoon might have been drawn with other intentions, but as a working mom with a 6 and 3 year old, and 9 month old in the house I can relate! Tyler still goes to daycare "pre-school". He does not know Shelby is out of school and goes with me to the office or he would refuse to go to school. Yes, I know this will probably be the only time I can fool him but right now it just has to be this way. Shelby goes to the office with me daily as does 9 month old Emily. Tyler goes to pre-school while I get what I can accomplished. For the last two weeks we've had an extra hand because my 10 year old sister has been visiting from Texas. It's been great having her here. She's such a big help with the younger kids but, it does entail more laundry, food, etc.

I keep asking myself...is summer over yet?! My how life changes. 20 years ago I couldn't want for summer to begin and now I can't wait for it to end. No, seriously I do enjoy the time I get to spend with my kids. But, it's just a bit more hectic than what I am used to. When school starts back, Emily will go to daycare with her big brother. She's getting too big for me to keep at the office now. So while I'm working at doing things like invoicing, payroll, or looking for the best insurance prices from bcbsnc, she's crawling and pulling up on things. She's getting into everything. I know it will be a difficult transition for both of us, but it is something that I've wrestled with for a while and the decision has been made. I fully trust the staff at the daycare that my son attends. They are an amazing group of ladies and I know that my babies are in great hands with them. It makes me feel good to have this feeling. I am also looking forward to the freedom that it will bring me. For the last 9 months, I've had her with me at the office and it's tough having her all day and then coming home at night with her and the other two. There's no down time until they are in bed (which is when I am writing this post)! Maybe I can join Curves again, maybe I can join weight watchers, maybe...we'll see. I might just mope around missing my baby and wondering where the time has gone.

Blogging - this IS a CrAzY Life, but it's MY life...

I am only 49 posts away from three thousand posts on this blog! That's insane.

We went 4 wheeler riding this weekend. Spent some time with old friends and made some new ones as well! Of course there are photos on Facebook. Clicking on the collage will make it larger so you can see the images a little clearer if you so choose.

Shelby lost another tooth yesterday. She was upset that it was loose and she was unable to get it out. I bribed her with swimming. Brien was able to easily extract the tooth and the tooth fairy added to her savings account. I don't know if I've ever mentioned here, but I have a severe problem with loose teeth. It makes me nauseous just to see a wobbly tooth. I am not the woman for the job when extractions need performed. I've never passed out, but it sure does make me feel like I could. She is saving for a Nintendo DS and she's earning money each day for helping out at the house and the office. Hopefully by the end of the summer she'll have enough money to buy it herself. I have a feeling that knowing she has worked hard and saved to buy something might make her appreciate it just a tad more than she would otherwise. What do you think?

I have come to realize that there is no other word to describe my life any better than this one: BUSY. Well, maybe non-stop, hectic, or perhaps the standard: CrAzY will continue to work just fine. There just aren't enough hours in the day anymore to keep up with it all. I am trying to learn to accept this fact and just go with the flow but it is very hard for me.

My little sister is flying in this week. I need to ~~clean my house~~ prepare for her visit. We are all very excited to see her and spend some quality time with her. We will also be going to the family reunion this weekend, so we'll be getting in lots of family time! I'm looking forward to it.

Emily is crawling all over the place now and pulling up on everything. Where has the last 9 months gone? They have seriously just flown by. In three months we will be planning a 1 year old's birthday party...MY one year old's first party. WOW! Now, that is a strong realization. My baby is slowly but surely becoming a toddler. Before I know it she'll be using an acne treatment She also has two teeth, the bottom teeth. She cut them both at the same time. It actually wasn't that bad. I had hear ears pierced. (I can't remember if I've posted that here or not). She cried just a bit, but since then they've been healing well and she's not bothering them a bit.

I'm sure that there are many more things that I probably have neglected to mention in this post but I am just so worn out that I can't even bring myself to write about it.

Ruby Tuesday

This was the scene at my office yesterday afternoon. While their mommy was ~~catching up on Facebook, Twitter, & Blogging~~ working very hard on important office work, term insurance comparisons and such they were snoozing their little hearts out. I didn't have my camera with me, so I used my cell phone. I am using this for my Ruby Tuesday photo because the chair that is holding the DVD player that put them to sleep is red. There is also red on the head of the turkey decoy Shelby propped up under her Kindergarten nap mat to use for a pillow.

In other news, Emily (who is now 8.5 months old) has finally cut her first tooth. I am not sure which one it was because like her sister and brother before her, she cut two in at the same time. Now we're just waiting for the ear infection that usually follows. I was just getting used to sleeping the whole night through (well, mostly) and now here comes the teething monster. She is also crawling about now pretty well. It is simply amazing to me to see this little baby growing into such a big girl. It seems like only yesterday Tyler was trying to unscrew my belly button with a screwdriver to get his baby sister out...Good times, I tell ya...good times!

Shelby is officially a first grader now. She's been promoted from Kindergarten to the 1st grade. She is out of school for the summer. We've not made any big plans thus far, but we're all excited that we're going to have a visitor in a couple of weeks. My baby sister, Jeannene is coming to spend a couple of weeks with us in June. We can't wait for her to get here. We're looking forward to a fun filled summer.

My ~~little~~ big girl has one week left of Kindergarten. She is excited to be out for summer, but something tells me that after a week or so she's going to miss all of her friends and be really tired of hanging out with me all day at the family business. We'll see. She has grown so much over the last year that it is unbelievable. I have watched her personality transform so much that it is simply amazing! My baby girl is growing up so fast. They tend to outgrow us before we outgrow them don't they? I might need a memory upgrade with all of the photos of my ever changing children on this laptop! But, I love every ~~minute~~ memory of it!

Pregnancy Poem

Being pregnant in the summer is not so fun.
As a mom of two I'm constantly on the run.
The temperatures here are not very nice.
The heat makes me want to sit on a block of ice.

My back aches, my feet are swollen, and my clothes are too tight.
My poor husband walks on egg shells for
Nothing he says is quite right.
It will all be over soon enough,
As for now it's pretty rough.

My winter pregnancy was so much fun.
But, I guess it usually is with number one.
The last one was also a summer baby.
Not a chance there was going to be a third,
No not even a maybe.

Yet, here we are three years later and
Too cool off I'm searching for refrigerators
For the hot, steamy south is not the place to be
when you're an over sized mommy.

In the end when this little girl arrives
She will look up at me with those newborn eyes.
All will be well with the world.
I will be holding my beautiful baby girl!
I will forget the pain, suffering, and yes even the heat
It will be remembered as the day my daughter and I finally meet!!
