Summer Family Outdoor Health and Safety Gear

I have the pleasure of returning to KARZ 42 for Arkansas Matters tomorrow, Thursday, June 30 in the 7:00 hour. This is a listing of the items that will be featured on the show. Readers of CrAzY Working Mom are getting a sneak peak. Tune in tomorrow (or set your DVRs) to catch the segment.

Safety Turtle - The Safety Turtle Wireless Wristband Alarm is an ingenious combination of wireless signal-outfitted wristband and a wireless base station receiver that sounds an alarm the instant a child falls or ventures into water. The base station can be positioned anywhere between pool/waterside and 200 feet away.

Since we have an above ground pool, the child immersion alarm was something that really piqued my interest. My 2 year old has climbed the ladder to the pool before, but never gotten in without supervision. I think as parents, we always think that our children are always well protected and supervised but the truth is that drowning is one of the top 5 accidental deaths in the US.

There is also a pet immersion alarm. There are breeds of dogs that cannot swim. Bassett Hounds and English Bulldogs, dogs with short legs aren't built for swimming and generally have a hard time doing so. If they were to fall into deep water, they might not be able to get out. By putting the safety turtle on their collar, it could potentially save their life.

Since my husband is an avid hunter, he introduced me to the ThermaCELL line of products including the Mosquito Repelling Appliance and the Outdoor Lantern. This product is very effective and repels 98% of black flies, mosquitoes, and no-see-ums. There is no hot wax, open flames, or greasy, stinky DEET based products to apply to your body. The great thing about this repellent is that it doubles as a lantern and that you can use each function together or separately! It is battery operated and has low and high illumination settings. This is an awesome product! It is easily transported with the carry bag. Although it's longer than your typical camping chair, it carries just as easily. You can fit two collapsible camping chairs and a small table under this umbrella. It can be used at sporting events as well as camping. The stakes are awesome if using on a windy day. We also like the zippered windows so that you can let air flow through on those hot summer days.

The Sport-Brella Chair - This is the ultimate chair for any outdoor setting. It is a portable fold-up sport chair, but unlike other fold-out sport chairs, it has an attached 360 degree swivel umbrella which can be moved from one side of the chair to the other and can be swiveled at 3 different points at the push of a button to offer complete coverage from the sun and wind at any conceivable angle. The umbrella opens out to 46 inches wide and has a UPF 50+ lining for maximum sun protection. The Sport-Brella Chair also has a built-in cup holder, bottle opener and item pouch. This chair is the bomb-diggity!!! It is pretty stinkin' awesome! The only thing I regret about this chair is that we just finished up our baseball season. I can guarantee that next year this chair will be at the ball fields every time I am! Not only is the chair easily transported in a carry bag, has lots of pouches, cup holders, and the likes, but it also has an extra lumbar support in the back. This spoke volumes to me!! I find those camping type chairs to be generally not so comfortable, but this chair is somewhat over sized and the lumbar support is very comfortable. There is also a low-profile beach type chair with the same features.

Peekaru Ozone - Parents can take their baby out in the sunshine without worrying about sun damage or having to apply chemical sunscreens. The Peekaru Ozone is a uniquely breathable and lightweight baby carrier sun cover that attaches securely over any soft baby carrier, keeping baby shaded and cool. Since I no longer have a baby, this is not much of an issue with me these days. I do have a toddler, however and she's been known to fall asleep in all sorts of crazy times and positions so this could potentially be handy should she fall asleep on the beach or at the pool and we aren't able to apply sunscreens on her.

The AquaJogger Junior - A fantastic in-water device that allows kids to learn to swim, play water games and have fitness fun. The Aquajogger Junior is worn like a belt and comfortably suspends the child wearing it at shoulder level in deep water allowing her/him to breathe normally and move freely while performing a wide variety of water activities. Contoured to fit a child's body, and both fully adjustible and secure, the Aquajogger Junior is easy to use and comfortable. Also available for older children are in-water exercise tools, like dumbbells and leg weights. Includes a Splash Club Handbook featuring water games, swimming tips, and safety information. The Baby B'Air Infant Flight Vest is a vest that straps on your infant much like a life vest that you would use on a boat. It is placed over the child's head, and secured by adjustable straps on both sides under the baby's arms. The third strap comes from behind, between the baby's legs, and buckles to the front with another adjustable strap. The excess straps Velcro neatly to the vest so that there are no loose straps.

Due to FAA regulations, the vest can not be worn during take off or landing. But, once in the air, you simply feed your seat belt through the back of the vest and buckle your belt as normal. During the flight, you can read, eat, or even nap with the convenience that your baby will be securely fastened.

If you're a traveling parent, I would say this is a must have item. Although the flight attendants may give you grief about wearing it, there is a tag stitched right on the vest stating the FAA regulations stating that it can be worn during cruising altitude, but not during take off and landing.

Disney's New Releases

Since we got a little bit of snow and ice yesterday, I am so glad we had some new Disney Movies to keep the kids occupied. On Tuesday, Minnie lovers everywhere, (or at least one little girl in the Black household) were very pleased upon the arrival of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Minnie's Masquerade (with Mickey Mote). If you're not familiar with the Mickey Mote, it's the greatest thing since sliced bread! It's a Mickey shaped, child friendly remote control! By choosing the Discovery mode in the movie's menu screen your child, after a quick and easy set up for the Mickey Mote (it's easy, I promise!!) will be responding to questions throughout the movie about scenes they just watched by pressing one of the four color-coded buttons on the device: a yellow star, green circle, orange triangle or blue square. Discovery mode features two levels of play to grow with your child. The Mickey Mote can be used with any Disney Preschool DVD that includes the Discovery Mode feature. To date there are more than 11 titles that can be used with the remote control, just take a look at the back of the package to make sure.

My little Emily is a HUGE Mickey Mouse fan, but especially loves Minnie Mouse. So, when we receive a copy of Minnie's Masquerade for review, she was happy that SHE got a video to watch. She was especially excited to find that this DVD features four playful Minnie-themed adventures previously seen on the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse TV show, a never-before-seen episode, and a free paper mask with festive embellishments that kids can personalize. Of course my princess enjoyed watching Minnie with her very own masquerade mask. In this episode Minnie needs some help getting everything ready for her party including making royal crowns for their costumes, searching for Sir Goofalot’s lost shoe, stringing up paper lanterns and much, much more. At the ball, Professor Von Drake hosts the great Clubhouse Costume Show and gives out prize ribbons to all the friends who have dressed up in some funny and fancy costumes.

If you have a pre-schooler, or even a pre-schooler and a couple of Elementary schoolers, this one is a must have for your collection! With the addition of the Mickey-Mote and the customizeable mask, it will be an enjoyable day for all.

Although the cast changed a bit from the first movie, George Lopez is still the voice of Papi and as he is tossed into the role of fatherhood, he learns that sometimes being a parent is much harder than just being a "grown up". This movie is a great tale of family sticking together and proving that no matter who you are or how big you are, you can be a hero!

This DVD is packed with bonus features including a sneak peak at Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure (EEEEK!!!), The Music Video to “This is My Paradise” By Bridgit Mendler, and Blooper Faux Paws (my personal favorite!). I am a sucker for Bloopers, so I thought I'd share some with you here.

Do you Zhu Zhu?

In all of the holiday hustle and bustle, I almost forgot to post about what my kids are begging for this Christmas. I'm sure that some of you may be in the same predicament. Last year, the hottest thing around were Zhu Zhu pets. In fact, they were so hot that I was unable to snag any for my children. I had almost forgotten about them until my daughter came home requesting them for her birthday. Unfortunately it was too late as her birthday gifts were already purchased and wrapped. So, I kept this request at bay for Christmas. Now the younger siblings have also requested them! Fortunately, they are still in hot demand and this year I had no troubles snagging them up. I did seem to have a bit more trouble getting the accessories, such as the houses, hamster wheels, cars, etc. But, we managed to find them all after a few trips to the store.

Swim the Ocean with Disneynature

Disney has taken us previously taken us under the sea with Ariel and Nemo, but Disneynature presents Oceans as a Disney Blu-ray Combo Pack (Blu- ray + DVD) as you've never seen the sea before! This film puts you right in the action as whales and dolphins leap through the air, sea lions and sea turtles bask on the beach, and coral reef comes to life. This is not your 5th grade Science class under water doccumentary. The film makers captured mesmerizing footage using the most technologically-advanced equipment that has allowed them to bring this to true high-definition powers! Oh, and in case I haven't reeled you in yet, I'll tell ya that Pierce Brosnan is the ever so captivating narrator.

We sat down and put this movie in and I was fully prepared for a nap, but once the movie started I quickly realized that myself nor my children would be napping. Instead we popped some popcorn and watched the movie in it's entirety. Hubby came in at the end of the movie and got interested in it, so we started it over and watched it again. The kids LOVED it and so did we! It is a great movie and a wonderful way to teach our children why we have to protect our wild life! The DVD had the "Make A Wave" Disney's Friends For Change Music Video Featuring Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato!

Little Grips Product Review

Okay, all of you parents out there. I'm about to tell you about a product that's going to make you say, "Why didn't I think of that?"!!! I know when I saw them I thought the same thing. A father decided that when his daughter was having trouble learning to self feed he needed to figure out a simpler way. So, off to the work bench he went and the first prototype was designed for Little Grips. After prayer and a lot of support from family and friends who knew this idea was marketable, Idea Blvd Inc. was created and promises several other products in development that they look forward to introducing in the future. Little Grips Eating Utensils: What are they, you ask?! Well, even if you didn't ask I'm about to tell you! They are designed with your self-feeding toddler in mind. Any parent can tell you how difficult it is for a toddler to learn to self feed. Holding the utensil is a tricky task to master (try saying that three times real fast...okay, are you done? Back to the review). The Little Grips Utensils are designed with your child's natural movement in mind. This is good for toddlers because they are not dropping half of their food from their fork or spoon before it reaches their mouth either hitting the table or their clothes. It's good for you because you are going to have to clean the previously mentioned table and clothes! In short, it makes feeding time less messy and of course builds their self confidence because they are doing it on their own!

I really wish that this product would have been available to me three children ago. Well, at least two children ago, anyhow. Since Emily has pretty much proclaimed "Big Girl" status, I had a hard time getting her to eat with them. She knew that they were different than the ones we were using, so she really wanted no part of it. But, she was gracious enough to ~~take her turn as the guinea pig~~ try them out for the sake of the review.

Emily just turned 2 and she used them for the first time to eat eggs at breakfast. At first she was curious to find out what they were. When she realized that she had her own special utensils she was very excited. She stuck her eggs with the fork and got them to her mouth with ease! Emily gives them an thumbs up because she loved them and she was proud to have something that her siblings did not have. I give them two thumbs up because the product delivers! It does what it says it will. No doubt about it. Even though Emily is older and already knows how to use utensils, she made less of a mess with these, which is something worth buying for in my opinion!

Emily Loves Eden Home and So Should You!

As a mother of three, I strive to find cute, comfortable clothes for my children. Looking at the labels is becoming more of a habit for me, as we are trying to do our part to preserve the future of our environment. Every little bit we do can help out and by teaching my children these habits, I am preserving their future and the future of their children as well! I was lucky enough to work with Fuelmyblog in a product testing for Eden Home! I was given the opportunity to order an outfit of my choice to test and review. Emily was SO exited when she realized that she got a package in the mail. Big sister, Shelby was a bit jealous at first, but she quickly got over it when she got to help Emily open her package.

We ordered the organic "candy stripe" tunic style dress and paired it with some pink "lollipop" organic leggings for baby Emily. She was so excited when she saw her new, cute outfit that she immediately wanted to put it on and I must admit that I was excited to see it on her as well. Organic baby dresses from Frugi are all made from 100% organic cotton and finished naturally with natural dyes and finishing materials. All in all, we love the product. It is definitely worth the extra price to know that you are putting an all natural product on your child. We've washed it several times and it holds it's color and shape, and to me that is what matters most!
