9. Corn or Hominy - Creamed Corn

10. Pumpkin or Pecan Pie - Pecan (but chocolate more than either of those)

11. Sweet Tea or Soda - Sweet Tea of course!

12. Paper Plates or Fine China - Our meals are low key and we use disposable plates

13. Gathered around the table or the television - Well, there's usually more folks that will fit at the table, so we scatter everywhere.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Every year for Thanksgiving, I bring the famous cheesy broccoli and rice casserole to each of our two venues. I also bring a veggie tray to my mom's house where we eat lunch and then off to have dinner with Brien's family. One thing is for certain, we'll get more than enough to eat at both places!

Thursday Thirteen - Sleepy Edition

Thirteen Reasons I Should Have Stayed In Bed This Morning:

1. Emily (my 8 week old)didn't sleep well last night, meaning that her mother (that's me) didn't either.

2. I got up and took a hot bath and was interrupted by BOTH of my children this morning.

3. When Shelby (5 yrs) and Tyler (3 yrs) woke up, they both wanted milk.

4. I had not made milk (or coffee) yet because I stumbled out of bed and into the bath.

5. Number 4 made my children angry right off the bat this morning.

6. Number 5 made me angry right off the bat this morning.

7. When I made the kids milk, Tyler cried because I filled his sister's cup up first.

8. Shelby had a wardrobe crisis this morning. Yes, she's only 5 and YES, I know my life will be hell until she moves out!

9. Tyler also had a wardrobe crisis this morning. He wanted to wear his water boots and his mother (yup, that's me) wouldn't let him. Why, it's NOT RAINING!!!

10. I put on my favorite brown mary jane shoes this morning to discover that Shelby's damn weiner dog had chewed them up. They were only a couple of weeks old!

11. Brien was out of town last night on business. I was at home alone with my three children.

12. I never did get around to making me any coffee this morning. There was never time!

13. Emily is crying now and wants a bottle...the circle never ends! *sigh*

Thursday Thirteen - The Pumpkins

Archived TTs ~ TT Headquarters

About Our Pumpkin Faces

1. Yes, the pumpkin eyes, nose, etc are reusable.
2. They are made similarly to the "Mr Potato Head" parts. They are a bit longer and are fairly easy to push into the pumpkin skin than regular potato head parts.
3. Unfortunately the tattoo stickers are not reusable.
4. I loved the tattoos because they were easy to apply AND...
5. They look like someone took a lot of time and effort, though there wasn't much involved, to do!
6. These pumpkins were the result of our visit to the pumpkin patch.
7. No, we did not carve out a pumpkin this year.
8. We have always carved pumpkins in the past.
9. We didn't this year because A) New baby = less time and B) New baby = less patience.
10. The kids loved this idea because they could be more involved in it and it was easier for them.
11. The greatest thing about adding the "body parts" to the pumpkin was that they could change their minds if they didn't like them!
12. A suggestion, though if you have more than one child:
13. Buy more than one package b/c even though there are more than enough to do several pumpkins inside each package, they are always going to fight over the same set of eyes!

13.  All of this happened before 9am!   CALGON TAKE ME AWAY!!!

Thursday Thirteen - Random Thoughts

Archived TTs ~ TT Headquarters
What's On My Mind

1. The weather here in central Arkansas this week has been very nice. Today is the best day all week. The high is 74°!

2. Tyler had a check up today. The doc gave him a clean bill of health. He had ran fever most of the night last night. (See post below) His pediatrician seemed to think it was some sort of virus that is going around since he's on antibiotics from strep throat he treated him for last week!

3. I am still angry with our dog, Oscar. He got out of his crate while I was gone to the doctor's office with Tyler. He chewed up a half a bag of Emily's diapers, opened (but didn't ruin them all) two new packages of baby wipes, and chewed up a rattle toy that I bought for Emily last week. Grrrrrrr...

4. My husband is going to deer camp this weekend leaving me alone with the three kids. I hope I am up for the challenge. I may need to invest in some acne treatments afterward from the stress, though!

5. My mother in law might have to come rescue me by the end of the weekend. The good thing is that she will if need be!

6. My mother in law is my hero! Yes, you read that right! I really do ♥ her.

7. My kids have learned about divorce this week. They are curious as to why some kids have "two" dads. I explained to them that I had two dads as well. Tyler is a bit amazed. He keeps asking who his "other" dad is. *LOL*

8. Shelby is "Kid of the week" at school this week. I get to go to her class tomorrow to read them a story. I plan to eat lunch with her as well.

9. That reminds me that I need to go talk to her teacher in the morning to find out for sure what time I am to be at school on Friday for the story.

10. So far this year for Shelby's school, we've had two fund raisers, year book advertisements, class T-shirts, & school pictures that have caused us to fork over money!

11. Oh, and we're still collecting Box Tops if you have any you'd like to contribute please click the link. Every little bit will help!

12. Oh, my Wordless Wednesday was a lizard, of course. If you click on the photo below, you can see it larger.

13. I have come to realize that if I want to get any photos of Emily without her big brother in the shot I have to do so when he's not here or he's asleep. He loves her to pieces and it's hard to keep him away from her!

Thursday Thirteen - A Day In The Life...

A day in the Life...

1. So, I completely forgot how much a newborn will sleep...during the day!!!

2. I also forgot how many diapers a newborn will go through on any given day.

3. ...AND how many of them are dirty!

4. Mixing bottles of formula in the middle of the night slowly but surely can be done with only one eye open.

5. Speaking of mixing formula, I also forgot how many times a day that has to be done.

6. She's drinking 2 ounces at a time every 2-3 hours. That is a lotta bottles. I'm too tired to do the math.

7. Diaper rash is also not a good thing. Thank goodness for Balmex diaper rash cream.

8. I have such a high respect for single moms! I do not know HOW they do it?!?!

9. I am so glad that I have a husband, family, and friends to help out...otherwise I think I'd be crazier than I am at this point.

10. Sleep...yeah, I'm not getting a lot of it.

11. Why is it that babies will sleep for 4 to 5 hours straight during the day but not at night.

12. Yes, I've tried keeping her awake at during the day and NO she still doesn't sleep well at night. Maybe it's just too quiet.

13. I might be getting a mini-van! Yup, just call me Tisha the "Soccer Mom". I don't care...it'll make my life so much simpler.
*yawn* Happy Thursday Thirteen, my friends! *yawn*

Thursday Thirteen - Randomness

Randomness of the Week
(because I'm just too lazy to be creative)

1. Today is the projected "due date" of our third child. Will she be among the small percentage of babies that are actually born on their due date? What is your prediction?

2. Earlier this week, Brien shaved ALL of his facial hair from his face. It was the strangest thing to see my husband with no facial hair. I've not seen his top lip since we first began to date (we were 16). I hated it at first, but it is growing on me.

3. Hubby is also the proud owner of a new blackberry phone. He likes it so far and I must admit that I'm a bit jealous.

4. We have three birthdays in the first week of September, I sure hope this baby girl doesn't come along on one of them, unless Grandma, Auntie, or Cousin wouldn't mind one heck of a gift and sharing.

5. I am excited about watching Big Brother tonight. The feeds have been awesome this week (I don't subscribe, just read GREAT updates over at Big Brother 10 Insider).

6. This is my first week away from my old job. I've been at my husband's office every day this week working. I keep saying that I'll take a break tomorrow, but so far tomorrow has yet to come.

7. When your kids are gone for a couple of days with their Grandparents it takes a lot longer than a couple of days to get them back into their routine.

8. Why in the heck is it so HOT at the McDonald's play land?! Seriously, we were there tonight and I was miserable. I was only sitting there watching my kids play in the tunnels above my head. Heat rises, people. They came over to get drinks and they were wringing with sweat! We didn't stay long. It was like playing Orlando golf or something. Golfing and Heat = McDonald's with screaming kids, stinky feet, and cold french fries!

9. Last night there was a lizard in my house!!! I freaked out and tried to "catch" it with a cup. When I placed the cup over the little guy (who was blue by the way) I only got half of him. His tail fell off. Shelby and I were home alone. I yelled to her to get another cup. She freaked out and kept asking why the tail was moving when it was no longer attached to the lizard. Finally she brought me another cup. I put the two together once again squishing the little guy...sorry but better a dead lizard than a loose lizard in my house!

10. I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and now I have indigestion. Oh, the joys of pregnancy!

11. My pedicure is in need of some touching up...trouble is that I can't "touch" my feet.

12. I'm looking forward to the three day weekend. We have no plans, but I'm looking forward to that extra "day off".

13. I took this picture on hubby's new phone tonight and I sent it to my phone b/c I thought it was too cute. It's the background screen on my phone now.

Thursday Thirteen - Randomness of my week

Thirteen Random Things About My Week

1. Shelby will start Kindergarten Monday. I am handling this pretty well, right now.
2. We met her teacher on Tuesday. We also took all of her school supplies to her classroom I didn't shed a tear.
3. One of her great friends from pre-school is in her class. This was a great relief!
4. The weather here has been awesome since last Thursday. We've had some rain in the mix, but temps in the 80s and 90s is a dream come true for thie overworked, VERY pregnant momma!
5. This is my second week training my replacement at work. She's doing very well AND I'm not just sayin' that because she just so happens to be my sister either.
6. Next week is my last week with my current employer.
7. The week after that, our third child is due.
8. Yesterday I went to the doctor and he informed me that I am dilated to a 2.
9. The doctor also told me that he's delivered 5 babies this week...something about the barometric pressure dropping as well as a full moon.
10. I informed him that we we not delivering this one before I got to see other baby girl off to Kindergarten.
11. Please keep your fingers crossed for me that sending Shelby to Kindergarten does not put me into labor.
12. They told us that they want us to drop off our children at the curb and then leave them.
13. Ummm...I don't think so. I am going to the classroom with her, and I WILL have my camera in hand. I will send a note to the teacher that I am a blogging mommy and these things must be documented!

Thursday Thirteen - Tyler's Birthday

Why YES, that WAS a John Deere tractor pinata in my Wordless Wednesday post from yesterday. Many of you asked via comments so I thought for my Thursday Thirteen, I'd explain Thirteen John Deere Items we've got for Tyler's 3rd birthday party on
Saturday, August 9th.

1. John Deere Tractor Pinata - He has been playing with it since we received it in the mail and I fear that he will be as crushed as the pinata when the candy comes streaming down after being beaten with a bat!

2. John Deere Plates, Cups, & Napkins

3. John Deere Fun Activity Place Mats

4. John Deere Party Favor Boxes

5. Plush Cow for the treat boxes

6. Plastic Corn on the cob shaped water squirter - perfect for our "pool party"

7. John Deere Tractor Stickers for the treat boxes

8. John Deere Blowout - perfect for the children to "take home" to annoy their parents! ;)

9. John Deere Notepad - for the treat boxes

10. Crayons - a must have with the notepads

11. John Deere Tractor table centerpiece

12. John Deere Mylar Balloons

13. John Deere Cupcake Cake - created by the greatest mother in law a girl could ask for. She's made every single birthday, baby shower, wedding cake for our family and will continue to do so even though it will make us all be on the lookout for diet pills. This one will have horses and tractors on it. I can't wait to see it. Don't worry, there will definitely be pictures!

Thursday Thirteen -"P"

What is something that a pregnant woman does at least once an hour? Okay, the answer is NOT to eat ice cream. Although that has to run a close second, right? The answer I was looking for is to take a trip to the restroom. This time of the year when the weather is SO hot, the key to keeping cool is hydration. Unfortunately with hydration comes urination! This comes more frequently for a pregnant woman anyhow, but drinking lots of water to keep cool only makes it worse. Upon one of my many trips to the restroom today, a Thursday Thirteen post popped into my head.

Thirteen other words for the duty of relieving oneself of urine.

1. Peepee (or Pee)
2. Whiz
3. Potty
4. Piss
5. Tinkle
6. Urinate
7. Take A Leak
8. Use the head
9. Water the lawn
10. piddle
11. Wee-Wee
12. micturate
13. drain the main vain (hubby came up with that one)

What word do you use when you're at home, work, with the kids? Are they all the same? I have found myself telling my boss before we go to lunch, "Hang on, I need to go potty". That's not very professional, but I ask my kids all of the time do they need to potty and it's a hard habit to break!

3. 1 Large White Elmer's School Glue (no gel)

Thursday Thirteen

Why I Can't Do Thursday Thirteen This Week

1. It's flippin' hot here and it's NOT a dry heat. It's HOT & HUMID!
2. I'm pregnant and my mind tends to wander...A LOT when I'm trying to think of something witty.
3. I barely got anything accomplished in the "soon to be" nursery over the long weekend!
4. We still have yet to name our "soon to be" third child.
5. Did I mention it's hot and I'm miserable.
6. Every time I sit down to to write a post, I have to go pee.
7. This baby doesn't like to share my lap with my computer.
8. So you think you can dance and Celebrity Circus had my attention when I was trying to think of something witty to post!
9. I need to drop some Entrecards, but I am tired and ready for bed.
10. Did I mention it's really hot here?!
11. The pool keeps calling my name. It's a nice way to cool off 'cause in case I forgot to mention, it's HOT!
12. I'm sooooooooo ready to go on maternity leave. Work has been kicking my butt lately.
13. I think I need some chocolate...or bed. Both sound really good, maybe I'll go eat some chocolate in bed.

Have you entered my contest?! Click HERE for details.

Thursday Thirteen

Things Currently In The Nursery

Right now, our baby's nursery is an office. We have approximately 8 weeks until her expected due date. We have yet to clean out the office and begin the transformation. I am waiting on the nesting effect to kick in, but I am beginning to wonder if it will. I am a very tired momma and I find it hard to become motivated with baby #3. These are things that need to be removed/relocated to make room for our newest family member:

1. A HUGE L shape desk that was put together inside of the room. I think this will prove to be a difficult item to remove from the house!

2. A Gun Cabinet. Hubby is getting a gun safe and we will return this beautiful piece of furniture to the friend who let us use it in the first place since we no longer have room for it.

3. Hubby's "Hunting Cabinet" that has a lot of his hunting gear inside.

4. Books

5. Photo Albums

6. Pictures in frames that decorated the hutch of said L shaped desk in #1.

7. Various assorted office supplies

8. My scanner/copier

9. Grown up curtains/decorations

10. Hunting/camping gear in the corner that belongs to hubby

11. Computer accessories, disks, paper, etc.

12. 2 rather large book shelves loaded with books & albums (#4 &5)

13. A file cabinet with personal stuff/bills, etc.

Most of these items will be relocated to my husband's office in town since I will work for him after I have the baby instead of going back to my current job. The rest we will have to make room for in other locations of our home. We have tentative plans to enclose the garage for another bedroom so that we will still have an office. This task will obviously not be completed before the baby's due date so we will have to make due until then.
We plan on tackling some of this feat during the holiday weekend. Wish us luck!!!

Digg!

Interesting Facts About The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
USA

1. A guard takes 21 steps during his walk across the the tomb. Why? It alludes to the twenty-one gun salute, which is the highest honor given any military or foreign dignitary.

2. A guard hesitates for 21 seconds after his about face to begin his return walk for the same reason as stated above.

3. His gloves are moistened to prevent his losing his grip on the rifle.

4. He carries the rifle on the shoulder away from the tomb. After his march across the path,he executes an about face and moves the rifle to the outside shoulder.

5. Guards are changed every thirty minutes, twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year.

6. For a person to apply f or guard duty at the tomb, he must be between 5' 10" and 6' 2" tall and his waist size cannot exceed 30".

7. They must commit 2 years of life to guard the tomb, live in a barracks under the tomb, and cannot drink any alcohol on or off duty for the rest of their lives.

8. They cannot swear in public for the rest of their lives and cannot disgrace the uniform {fighting} or the tomb in anyway.

9. After two years, the guard is given a wreath pin that is worn on their lapel signifying they served as guard of the tomb. There are only 400 presently worn.

10. The guard must obey these rules for the rest of their lives or give up the wreath pin.

11. The shoes are specially made with very thick soles to keep the heat and cold from their feet. There are metal heel plates that extend to the top of the shoe in order to make the loud click as they come to a halt.

12. There are no wrinkles, folds or lint on the uniform. Guards dress for duty in front of a full-length mirror. Every guard spends five hours a day getting his uniforms ready for guard duty.

13. The first six months of duty a guard cannot talk to anyone, nor watch TV. All off duty time is spent studying the 175 notable people laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery .. A guard must memorize who they are and where they are interred. Among the notables are: President Taft, Joe E. Lewis {the boxer} and Medal of Honor winner Audie Murphy, {the most decorated soldier of WWII} of Hollywood fame.

...and I couldn't resist posting this:In 2003 as Hurricane Isabelle was approaching Washington , DC , our US Senate/House took 2 days off with anticipation of the storm. On the ABC evening news, it was reported that because of the dangers from the hurricane, the military members assigned the duty of guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier were given permission to suspend the assi gnment. They respectfully declined the offer, 'No way, Sir!' Soaked to the skin, marching in the pelting rain of a tropical storm, they said that guarding the Tomb was not just an assignment, it was the highest honor that can be afforded to a service person. The tomb has been patrolled continuously, 24/7, since 1930.

I am proud to be an American where there are soldiers who are so dedicated to this important monument!
