Spam - A Thorn In My Side

There was a time when I lived for comments, I would check my mail, stats, comments every few minutes. I wanted a high PR ranking, I wanted to be a top blogger. I wanted everyone to know my name. Then along came child number 2 and 3. So much for that idea! I no longer have time to sit down at the computer and visit other blogs so why should I expect them to visit me. Frankly, I don't. I have contemplated shutting down my blog on several occasions, and then I realized that the whole reason I began blogging in the first place was to document for my friends and family the goings on of my family...the good, the bad, and the extremely crazy! I had a realization that nothing else really mattered.

Sure, I am like a lot of other "mommy" bloggers. I like to do the occasional paid post, or product review but I am surely not making a living from it. There are those of you that are, and that is great! I have three kids who I have to haul around to and from school, a business to co-manage, church, family, and frankly blogging just doesn't fit into my schedule much anymore. I do facebook a lot simply because it is quick, mobile, and I can do it on my phone while I'm waiting in the parking lot at school, in the doctor's office waiting room, or even sitting on the toilet (oh, come on - you know you do it too!!!) I have connected with many bloggers there and still keep up with them.

This blog is loaded with comments these days, but not the kind of comments that one would hope for. They are SPAM comments. Thankfully my spam filter catches most of them. A big part of them are inappropriate content for this blog! But there are those that occasionally slip through. You know the kind - "Nice blog", or "Great post". You even get some that will actually leave a comment that might half way look like they read the post. But, the thing is...IT IS STILL SPAM!!! It chaps my hide and I can't stand it.

People are being PAID to leave spam on your blog!!! Did you know that??? It irks me that THEY are making money by leaving comments and back links on MY blog. It doesn't fly with me and spammers beware that your comments WILL be deleted from this blog so don't waste your time or mine!!! Don't think you are going to get a free ride from this blog. It ain't happening...not now, not ever!

*steps off soap box and puts it away*

Spam Sandwich Anyone?!?!

Unfortunately I have been bombarded with Spam as of late. Since the spammers leave their comments anonymously I cannot trace where they are coming from. I have sent e-mails to some of the companies that the spam is representing asking them for their cooperation in the matter. This leaves me no choice but to turn on comment moderation. I have chosen to do this so that only the older posts are moderated because that seemed to be where they were going. Until the spam subsides I will keep this option on. To my loyal readers and commenters, please accept my apologies for moderating your wonderful and appreciated comments. Like the old saying goes, "One bad apple spoils the whole bunch".

Just Say No To Spam!

It seems that as of late I've been getting a lot of spam. Not the oooey-gooey meat like substance in a can, but those annoying comments left by idiots. It's something that I've never had to worry much with. Of course I'd get the occasional comment here or there but it has not been much of a problem. The trouble is that these spammers do leave comments. Sometimes they even go to extremes to make the comment relevant to the post. But, the one I got yesterday topped the cake. The post below titled Time for Mom To Let Her Hair Down was a post about an upcoming trip I am taking with my best friend to celebrate the 20th anniversary of our friendship. It had absolutely nothing to do with the length of my hair. THIS comment was left by a spammer:

"Long hair is better! I love long hairt instead of short hair ! "

Obviously the comment was deleted. Not because of the fact that it had no relevance to the post, but simply because it was spam. To future spammers, if you want to send me an e-mail we can talk about getting a link to your company on this site the proper way, but spamming my comment section is not tolerated and it completely uncool. Obviously I don't like to sift through these sort of comments like searching for diamonds in the middle of a diamond field, but in order to maintain the quality and integrity of the comments left by those who actually read the posts, I will do whatever it takes.

So, how about you? Are you getting annoying spam comments as well?

Hey, Anonymous!

I am not interested in your credit card debt consolidation. I do not need an emergency cash loan. We have a great deal on our vehicle insurance through my husband's business, so I do not need a car insurance quote either. Pay day loans are a rip off, and I do not need to re-finance my home online. We have a perfectly fine banker here.

So, please quit spamming me. Come on, six different comments on the same post. I do not tolerate spam, and I can promise you that no matter how many spam comments you leave me, they will be deleted even if it takes me all day.

Maybe if you weren't anonymous, I could tell you this personally instead of posting it here for others to be bothered with it! Stay away from here. I have no room for your kind here!
