New Year, New Me Day 2

Day two of my healthy new lifestyle started off great.  I was pouring my first cup of coffee at 5:30 and found myself singing.  YES, I said singing at 5:30 in the morning.  I felt great.  I was refreshed, and ready to tackle the day, no matter what was thrown at me.  Boy, did I ever eat those thoughts!!!

Against my better judgment I gave Emily chocolate milk because she threw such a fit wanting it.  Let me reiterate that this was against my better judgment.  I knew that she should probably not have milk since she was vomiting and had an upset stomach on Monday but she was kicking and screaming.  I will spare you the details but suffice it to say that I should not have given her the chocolate milk.  It was with a heavy heart that I stayed home with her again.

With that being said, I managed to get a work out in and had a great work-out partner to boot!  Day two of the 9 week challenge on EA Sports Active 2 brought back nightmares memories of the original EA Sports Active Personal Trainer and all of those squats that made me almost unable to walk for days. I must say I could definitely feel the burn after today's work out.  I am worried that I will feel it for a few days in fact.  OUCH!

I tried a new recipe for dinner tonight and had a very skeptical husband. He was wondering what the "back up" was before he even tried them. We had Gina's Spinach Lasagna Rolls from Gina's Skinny Recipes. Of course mine didn't look nearly as beautiful as hers, and I did deviate a bit from her recipe because I didn't have any sauce on hand, but Emeril Lagasse helped me out with some of his original recipe sauce.  For a more enticing photo, check out the link to the recipe above.  Mine weren't nearly as pretty, but they did taste awesome!!  Although it was a little more prep work than I care to do normally, it wasn't too bad.  I've come to the realization that cooking healthy will require more work than the norm, but it is worth it to lose weight and know that I am feeding my children healthy food! The lasagna rolls had a great taste and fit into my points perfectly! I added extra since I deviated to the recipe but still ended dinner with a nice side salad as well as a slice of whole wheat toast sprinkled with olive oil and topped with  garlic powder. If you're looking for delicious recipes that fit into your Weight Watcher lifestyle, check out Gina's site. I will be trying out a few more later this week and I will let you know what I think!

Working For Gravy

PhotobucketYesterday we had lunch at Larry's Pizza in Searcy.  It's a favorite among our family.  They have what they call a "pizza parade" for their buffet. When pizza comes out of the oven, they don't just go sit it under the hot lamp, they bring it around and ask you if you want some!  They have everything from bbq chicken to chicken fajita, cheeseburger (made with mustard instead of pizza sauce) to mac & cheese (YES ON A PIZZA!).  It is delicious.  As we enjoyed our meal yesterday, my daughter noticed a sign on the table. She read it aloud slowly:  Our waitresses work for gr, gra, gravy???  Why do they work for gravy, she asked?!  Well, it's because they like to eat breakfast, I guess, sweetie!  ;)

1. Oreo Cookies - I LOVE those new vanilla ones!
2. Fried Pickles - May be a pregnancy thing
3. Cereal - mostly at night Cocoa Puffs, Pops, & Cookie Crisp
4. Pasta - Something about this carbohydrate makes my mouth water.
5. Pizza - particularly Chicken Alfredo or Buffalo Chicken

12. Buffalo Wings - Chili's has some really yummy ones!
13. Breakfast Burritos from Sonic. I DO love Sonic.

No Wonder It's Free!

I took advantage of McDonald's offer today. If you bought a medium or large drink you could order a Southern Style chicken biscuit or sandwich. The marketing material I've read on this item says that "people in the south love this stuff". Well, I'm sorry sirs but I beg to differ with you. I live in the south and in fact have lived in the south my entire life and I found absolutely NO satisfaction in this sandwich whatsoever! Even a pregnant woman needs a little warning when she's about to bite into something pickle saturated at 7 o'clock in the morning! McDonald's had chicken biscuits a few years ago and I loved to eat them for breakfast, so I was pleased to learn that they had made a come back. I was even more joyed when I learned that today you could snag one for free. I decided to take the biscuit with me to work and eat it there. The aroma escaped the bag as I made my drive across town and I thought I smelled a hint of pickle. I peeked into the bag and peeled back the wrapper and noticed no signs of a pickle. I thought to myself that maybe there was some pickle juice spilled on the bag. No harm no foul, right? I got to work and bit into my breakfast and thought I tasted pickle. I opened the sandwich again to see no pickles. I only got about half of this sandwich down before it made it's final resting place the office trash can. Even this pregnant woman couldn't handle pickles for breakfast...and you know how much I love fried pickles. Apparently there is pickle juice mixed into the batter. I just can't imagine how they think that anybody, much less a distinguished southerner *wink* would find a pickle saturated chicken breast in a biscuit a "southern style" treat. I'd have to give this two thumbs down. For me not to find something enjoyable about food, especially during my pregnancy has got to say something, right?! Don't waste your money. I'm just glad I didn't. I did get a yummy sweet tea out of the deal, so it wasn't a complete waste since I didn't pay for the biscuit.

A Special Review

I've been asked to try these Grey Poupon mustards for an honest review. I was thrilled to get this opportunity because I love mustard. Mustard is my condiment of choice when eating most things. I tried these mustards on a ham and cheese sandwich. My favorite, by far was the hearty spicy brown. It had a bit of a garlic taste to it that tickled my taste buds delightfully! It will definitely be my mustard of choice. The harvest coarse ground was a bit too spicy for me. It was definitely a flavor explosion in my mouth. It had a bit of a dill flavor to me and was a bit too spicy for the ham and cheese sandwich that I tried it with. It would however be a great additive to family recipes that require the use of yellow mustard, such as deviled eggs. For a wonderful change to the ordinary yellow mustard that you are accustomed to adding to your favorite sandwich, the hearty spicy brown is definitely a wonderful choice!
