2011 Susan G Komen Race For The Cure

The 2011 Susan G Komen Race For The Cure is in the history books and it was an awesome time for Team CrAzY For A Cure!!!  We had a fabulous time and I am so proud of our team who raised over $2,000 to aid in breast care and early detection for women right here in Arkansas!!  We had 30 team members walking this year.  Thank you so much to each and every one of you who just by signing up on our team helped to save lives!!!  You girls rock.
Now, here are some of my favorite photos from the day's events!!  To see more I have made this album public on my Facebook profile page, so you can click this link and it will take you there and you can scroll through to see. *Note, clicking the photos will open them up in a larger windown.

Halloween Snack

Do you like Paydays?  I am not talking about the Friday afternoon kind that sends you squealing (or complaining) all the way to the bank.  I'm talking about the ooey-gooey, peanuty deliciousness of a candy bar.  If you do, this combination pictured above will be a touch of heaven to your taste buds!!  This little dish of candy corn combined with peanuts sits on my bar and has to be refilled on a daily basis!  The magic combination is two peanuts per candy corn.  It tastes just like a bite of a Payday candy bar.  It is scrumdiddlyumptious!  :)  It's a great addition to any fall party or festival!

HAND-burger Helper Anyone

The hubster got me good yesterday!!  I was getting ready to start dinner and I opened up the freezer to grab some chicken and to my surprise I found more than I bargained for.  I let out a scream and about halfway through I realized that it was a prank.  I glared over at my husband and his face was so red that he looked like he was about to pass out.  He was laughing so hard that he nearly had to join me in changing my drawers!!!

In case you can't tell by the picture, my sweet little Emily grace was holding up the fake bloody nub of a hand that was packaged like meat.  (Sorry for the cell phone quality photo) It was in the freezer right beside the chicken I was to cook for dinner.

I decided to change the menu last night to HANDburger helper!  *wink*

Hakuna Matata

True Friendship!
I was pleased when I saw this photo not long after watching Disney's The Lion King on the big screen in 3D!! It was such an amazing movie back in it's day and I must say that when I heard it was coming back to theaters I knew that my family and I would be seeing it! We came, we saw, and we enjoyed!!
Emily and Shelby ready for some 3D Action!
All of the magic I remember on the big screen from the first time the Lion King was released into theaters was brought back to life in 3D!!! Although it costs a little more to see a movie in 3D, it is really cool to see a timeless classic such as the Lion King come to life right before your very eyes. The opening scene is breath taking. Remember how it was so advanced and ahead of it's time way back when (man, it makes me feel old to write that!!), well in 3D it's like it's brand new all over again and you're standing on pride rock looking down as the animals are celebrating the arrival of their future king Simba!! If you didn't get the opportunity to go see Lion King in 3D, pick it up on the Disney DVD/Blu-Ray Combo pack today!!

In the near future you can expect to see Beauty and the Beast – January 13, 2012, Disney•Pixar’s Finding Nemo – September 14, 2012, Disney•Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. – January 18, 2013 (Monsters University, a prequel to the original film, arrives in theaters in Disney Digital 3D on June 21, 2013), and The Little Mermaid – September 13, 2013.

Team CrAzY For A Cure

My two daughters helping me bag up all 43 race tees for
distribution to team members!!
We are a little over one week until the 18th Annual Race For The Cure in Little Rock, Arkansas!!  As previously mentioned here on this blog, I am on my second year as team captain of Team CrAzY For A Cure!  Last year, we were lucky enough to be sponsored by Hanes and they provided us with the Passionately Pink Tees.  This year, we came up with our own logo and with the help of an awesome lady in town, we were able to pair up with her for the design you see below.  If you're in need for some t-shirts, I would highly recommend her.  Ms Barbara Carson from Royal-Tees (501-279-1230).  We walk in honor of our grandmothers, mothers, sisters, friends, daughters, etc.  Some day we know there will be a cure for this awful disease.  Until then, we will bond together in sisterly love and be there for one another.

Mask-que-rade Party

My two masked beauties are ready for their masquerade party tonight!  We received an invitation to the Mask-que-rade Party and Hayride last weekend and it included plain white masks with these instructions:
Don't put on your costumes, but "don" your mask.
Decorate it is all we ask and join us and our fun cast.
The girls were very decisive on how they wanted their masks.  This should come as no surprise to my regulars, but we used duck tape as the color base.  We added some jewls, feathers, and viola...we're ready for the party!

...and in case you were wondering, Tyler will be at an overnight sleepover birthday party.  ;)

Netflix Nixes Qwikster

On Monday I received yet another e-mail from Netflix about impending changes.  By now I'm sure you've heard that they are no longer going to have two separate websites for live streaming and DVDs by mail.  Although it didn't make any difference to me because I dropped the live streaming service when they hiked the price up in July, I am sure it made some folks a bit more content with the service.  I wonder what they have up their sleeve next?  Maybe adding some newer, more interesting things to the live stream?

For those of you who didn't stick around after the price hike, here's the e-mail:

It is clear that for many of our members two websites would make things more difficult, so we are going to keep Netflix as one place to go for streaming and DVDs. This means no change: one website, one account, one password…in other words, no Qwikster.
While the July price change was necessary, we are now done with price changes. We're constantly improving our streaming selection. We've recently added hundreds of movies from Paramount, Sony, Universal, Fox, Warner Bros., Lionsgate, MGM and Miramax. Plus, in the last couple of weeks alone, we've added over 3,500 TV episodes from ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS, USA, E!, Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, ABC Family, Discovery Channel, TLC, SyFy, A&E, History, and PBS.
We value you as a member, and we are committed to making Netflix the best place to get your movies & TV shows. Respectfully, The Netflix Team

In a news report that aired Monday, I heard them say that Netflix stock has dropped 50% since the July price hike! YIKES! Maybe they decided that they'd better take into consideration the value of what customers genuinely desire!!  Take note, Netflix...Blockbuster and Myspace, where are they now?!?!  There's always something bigger and better to come along, you could be the next to go under if you're not careful in how you handle things, including pleasing your customers.

Field Trip Time!

Thanks so much to Searcy Fire Dept for a fun field trip!!!

Great job, Tyler!
Lovin' that grin!!
Tuesday was field trip day for Tyler's Kindergarten class.  Since this week is fire prevention week, they went to the local fire station.  It's always one of my favorite field trips because the Searcy FD are amazingly gracious people and they are so good with the kiddos.  Every year I learn something while I'm there, and the kids always come home wanting to plot out fire routes and find a meeting spot for our family in case of a house fire!  It's always great when your kids school you on things isn't it???

In honor of fire prevention week, here are a few tips I've picked up since I've done this field trip a few times before.  ;)

*Safety Tips For Kids

- Make a map of your home. Mark a door and a window that can be used to get out of every room.

- Choose a meeting place outside in front of your home. This is where everyone can meet once they’ve escaped. Draw a picture of your outside meeting place on your escape plan.

- Write the emergency telephone number for the fire department on your escape plan.

- Have a grown-up sound the smoke alarm and practice your escape plan with everyone living in your home.

- Keep your escape plan on the refrigerator and remind grown-ups to have your family practice the plan twice a year or whenever anyone in your home celebrates a birthday. Smoke alarms and home fire escape planning

- If there is a fire in your home, there will be smoke.

- A smoke alarm will let you know there is a fire.

- A smoke alarm makes a loud noise – beep, beep, beep.

- When the smoke alarm sounds, get outside and stay outside.
- Go to your family outside meeting place. When you go home today, be a smoke alarm detective
- Ask a grown-up to show you where the smoke alarms are in your home.
- Ask a grown-up to test the smoke alarms to make sure they are working

Great White Hunters

The weather is cooling off, the leaves are changing. Fall is upon us! Most folks start thinking about Thanksgiving feasts, Fall Festivals, Hayrides, Weenie Roasts, etc. Around here, our fellas start thinking of deer hunting!  Tyler got his first bow this year.  He was all smiles when he and Brien went outside to practice his draw and shoot at the target.  It was great father/son time and an awesome opportunity of course for me to get some pictures of the two of them together.

A Moment in Time

A few nights ago, Shelby decided to try her artistic abilities out on Emily.  She was going to draw a dry erase portrait of her 3 year old sister.  The likeness is uncanny isn't it?  Right down to the pink feather in her hair.  We might have the next Rembrandt or Picasso on our hands!  ;)

Tyler is a trophy winner!!!  He won 1st place overall in his classroom and 2nd place overall in the whole Kindergarten in the 15th annual Box Car Derby held at Westside Elementary.  I am very proud of my little man.  He's fast and his car was cool!  That smile says it all.  He was tickled to be holding that trophy.

CrAzY For A Cure At Get Down Downtown

Hello friends!!  It has been a very busy time since school started back.  With school work, home work, office work, house work...do you see a trend here.  Yes, me too...and I don't like it!  I am finally here cleaning out the cobwebs today at CrAzY Working Mom.  I never EVER thought I'd see the day where this blog wasn't being posted to at least once a week.  Facebook seems to have taken away some of my time (and traffic).  I know a lot of my bloggy friends feel the same way.  I have many facebook followers for this blog and it's just as easy to post a one liner there and slap a picture up as it is to post a long, detailed post here.  But, I feel it's necessary for this one.

I have posted before that I have a team for the Susan G Komen - Arkansas Race For The Cure.  We will be walking on Saturday morning, October 22, 2011 with a few thousand of our closest friends!!  Arkansas has the 3rd largest race in the nation.  Last year with the help of Hanes, I formed a team and we had such a tremendous response that I decided to do it again this year.  We're 15 days from race day and as of last count we were 31 team members strong!!  Last weekend we hosted a fund raiser at "Get Down Downtown" at the beautiful historic Main Street in Searcy, Arkansas.  We had a fabulous turn out and raised over $900 selling pink lemonade, cookies, and various "pink" items.  We also had wonderful donations from local vendors to give away as door prizes.  Pictures, you say?  Well, you know me...here ya go!

The front of the booth.
Yard Stakes for sale - 100% of proceeds to the Komen Foundation.
"Pink" items for sale.
These were a hot ticket item!
"The Help"
As a team we've raised over $1,600 to help fund mammograms right here in the state of Arkansas!  It's been very exciting to do this alongside some of the best team mates a girl could ask for.  I just want to say a special thanks to those who helped work the booth, and especially those who helped set up and tear down.  It took lots of time and energy to do so and I could NEVER have done it along.  Mrs. Martha Black has also been a saint when it comes to our fund raising campaign.  She made many a phone calls and drove many miles to pick up donations.  Without her, we would never have been successful and we are so proud to have her as an honorary member of our team!!  I cannot wait to walk with these ladies on the 22.  We have a FABULOUS T-shirt design this year, although I'm not ready to make it public just yet because we're hoping to enter it into the T-shirt design contest!  Once it's submitted I will post it here for you to see.  It's adorable and the colors are going to be awesome!!

If you're looking for a team to join, you don't have to live in Searcy.  You can click this link to join our team.  It's easy, and even if you're not able to walk and just want to be an honorary member, you can do that as well.  You will receive your official race T-shirt in the mail.  If you don't want to join our team, I hope you will consider donating at least $5 or $10.  Every little bit helps.  It takes $150 to fund a mammogram for someone who might not otherwise be able to have one.  You could potentially save a life with early detection.  Hope runs on heros.  Won't you put on your cape today and help out the Komen Foundation?  You can click this link to donate to our team!
