Meet My Sister!

In this photo with me is my ten year old sister, Jeannene. I got to travel to Texas with my Dad to spend the weekend with her. We had such a great time. I haven't seen her since she was 5. It was great catching up with her. I discovered that she and my 6 year old daughter have a lot in common. She is going to come spend some time with us this summer and I cannot wait for her to get acquainted with my kids.  She is a very well mannered young lady.  Her mom has done a great job raising her.

While we were in Texas, Dad and I stayed with his Aunt.  She is such a fun lady and we had a good time catching up on old times with she and her adult children and grand children.  The relationiship that they share is inspiring to say the least.  They all live close to one another and see each other (or talk) daily!  I hope that I have this same bond with my children when they are grown.  She was a wonderful host and I came home with a couple of yummy recipes that I can't wait to try out.  I only hope that they are half as good as the ones she made!

We had dinner at TGI Friday's where I didn't cheat on my diet.  I had steak and veggies.  Jeannene tempted me twice with a strawberry smoothie (my favorite!) and a cup of dirt (with gummy worms, chocolate pudding, and oreo cookies).   Dinner was delicious and the conversation was great.  It was nice catching up with Jeannene.  Her mom (Dad's Ex-Wife) joined us as well and the conversation was fun.  She's only a few years older than me so we had fun hanging out.

On Saturday we went to the Downtown Aquarium in Houston.  Jeannene definitely made Dad and I feel our age.  We were worn out by the end of the day.  She had a great time petting sting rays and starfish, getting her face painted, and riding a ferris wheel.  If you're in the Houston area, this is a great place to visit!  It only cost $16 to get in and it is good for all day.  There are lots of things to do outside including the aquarium inside as well.  We had a wonderful lunch at the restaurant located inside of the aquarium.  It was a bit on the pricey side, but the view was amazing and the dessert was out of this world.  It was a chocolate brownie topped with vanilla ice cream, chocolate and caramel drizzles and a shark shaped cookie.  The inside of the brownie was filled with warm oooey chocolate pudding and it was surrounded by Heath candy bar.  Yup, you guessed it...I cheated on my diet with this one!

Sunday we had lunch at a local Mexican Restaurant where I once again cheated on my "low carb" diet with enchiladas, queso, salsa, guacamole, and to top it all off...a strawberry margarita!  I haven't had the guts to weigh in yet.  I guess I need to bite the bullet and just start fresh.

It was a fun weekend, but I am exhausted from the 16 hour drive (there and back).  I think it'll probably take me a week to catch up with myself!  I have uploaded pictures to my Facebook and Flickr so if we're friends at either place you've probably already seen them.  If not you can click the pictures and it'll take you to to the Facebook album.

Sounds like you had a good time. Doesn't it suck that you always have that long drive back from a trip like that? I'm going to see my Mom in a few weeks and even though it's only about a six hour drive I still dread it.

How fun Tisha. All the food sounded fun too. I'm glad you had such a wonderful visit and I'm glad your sister will visit you this summer. How fun.

Have a terrific day honey. Big hug. :)

Sounds fun. Great pics. You have such young sisters. I am the youngest, and my oldest sister is in her early 40s.

I am from Texas on the Gulf Coast. I was born and raised in Houston and lived in Galveston a lot of my young adult life too. I moved AR in 2005 thanks to Rita. Anyway, I totally know the Aquarium you are talking about. I used to love to go there, but dang the traffic in that area is horrible.

Sounds like you had a great time on your visit, so as far as "cheating" on your eating plan, so what? The next day is always a new day, right?
