Lard...
Being a southern girl born and raised, I've had a lot things cooked in bacon grease. I do my fair share of cooking with it as well. In fact last night I made beans, fried potatoes, and Mexican cornbread. I put bacon grease in my beans as well as pork fat. I also fried up my potatoes in bacon grease (yes I know how unhealthy it is). I got this e-mail today and thought I might need to pass it along to my fellow bloggers who might use this as well:
The question is: Do you use bacon grease?
We were raised on bacon grease (lard) as kids and even into adulthood.
I will never use it again. I hope you will throw yours away whenever you fry bacon from now on.
It seems as though nothing is safe to eat anymore.
COOKING WITH BACON GREASE
I just threw out my last 2 tbls of bacon grease!!
This is what happens when you keep cooking with bacon grease.
This is a warning.

I'm a G.R.I.T.S. - of course we use bacon grease in everything! Thank goodness I don't look like that, tho. Now my arteries? No telling what they look like...
I am in Alabama you can not make good greens with out bacon grease and don't even try to make cornbread with out a heaping spoonfull.
People put it in when cooking green beans, butter beans, field peas, etc....
sigh...I LOVE bacon....
