Friday afternoon hubby and I planned an impromptu camping trip with the kiddos. He has a deer camp in Cave City. It's a beautiful place and there's lots of woods to ride around in on the four wheeler. Our camper is still there, so we decided to just go home from the office, pack up a few things and spend the night. My wonderful MIL graciously agreed to keep Emily for us so that we could enjoy some time with the older two. Oscar (the wiener dog) tagged along as well. The weather was supposed to be warm this weekend so we thought it'd be the perfect opportunity to head out. What we didn't realize was that the ice storm that hit the state two weeks ago had crippled this city.
We built a fire when we got there and the kids had fun roasting some hot dogs and marshmallows. Brien got some strawberry marshmallows. I did not know they made such. They were really yummy! Shelby and Oscar slept in the back of the camper in the bottom bunk while Tyler curled up in between Brien and myself in the itty-bitty full sized bed. Before the night was over, I ended up on the couch bed. Even the King sized bed at home isn't big enough for the three of us because this child likes to sleep sideways!
Brien woke up bright and early in the tradition of being at "deer camp" I suppose. He got
dressed and went to look around. He came back and reported that he had seen nothing. By this time Tyler had woke up and was very disappointed that his daddy had went hunting without him. We couldn't make him understand that it was not hunting season and he could not hunt anything. When he got dressed we went out exploring. I took my weapon of choice, my Cannon Rebel. I had fun shooting all kinds of things. I didn't kill anything, though. I did get some great photos for Looking at the Sky on Friday for the next few weeks. I also got some shots of Oscar barking at cows, like the one below in the Camera Critters meme.
Brien made us some breakfast and we headed out on the four wheeler exploring. As I mentioned before there was a bad ice storm a couple of weeks ago and there were lots of trees down making our explorations a bit difficult. We managed, though and we all had a great time getting out in the woods. The temperatures were in the high 60s and there was still ice in the woods, so that tells you how thick that the ice must have been at one point in time.
We had a lovely time and it was nice to get away even if it was only for 24 hours. Here are a few more photos I took while we were there, if you're so inclined. I've put them in a scroll box to take up less room. To see more photos, you can click over to my Flickr account here.
