Tooting My Own Horn

At dinner tonight, hubby was casually making conversation with the kids and he asked Shelby what she wanted for Christmas.  She was quck to respond, "That's easy, I just want kisses from my Mom, Dad, brother, and baby sister."

I laughed and asked her, "So if you woke up Christmas morning and there were no gifts for you under the tree and your stocking was empty then you wouldn't be upset?"

Once again she quickly responded, "Nope because I have love...and lots of kisses from my family.  That's all I need.  I've got lots of toys in my room!"

She's six years old and she's already learned the true meaning of Christmas.  There are many people who are much older than her who haven't figured it out.  There are people who are scrambling trying to find gifts for everyone and their dog from cheap lingerie to expensive electronics.  I am proud that my baby big girl has figured out that she has everything she needs this Christmas...love.  She has LOTS of it, and that makes me proud.

As I tucked her in tonight, we read a book about making your own decisions.  It's a great book called Stephanie's Ponytail by Robert N. Munsch. Stephanie goes to school eacy day with a more ridiculous hair style.  The long line of copy cats grows and grows and the ending is outrageously funny.  It's a great story teaching the importance of individuality and independent thought. She loves this book. After reading, we talked about the book at little bit and had a laugh when we talked about her wardrobe crisis of not wanting to wear a certain outfit because someone else was wearing it. She then proudly proclaimed that she was glad that she had a mom like me...why, because I'm THE BEST! Yup, you heard it here folks. Look no farther the best has been found and named. I'll gladly take this title, because I know in about ten years I will be quickly stripped of it now won't I?!

By the way, she's feeling better!  Those antibiotics are doing the trick.

Wow, that sounds like an amazing day. I love that your daughter is 6 and you still call her your baby girl. Mine is 2.5 and when I call her baby she insists she's NOT a baby, she's a little girl. They'll always be babies, even when they have babies of their own. :)

Your site is beautiful!

Don't you just love when your kid comes out and says something like this? It does indeed make us proud as mothers. High five, Tisha. Great job!

Shelby's good heart no doubt comes from her parents-you have every right to toot your own horn!

She knows the true meaning of Christmas because you and hubby have taught her well. It's you honey. So many parents don't really raise their babies. You and hubby are.

Have a terrific day. Big hug and lotsa lovies. :)
