Tropic Thunder Review

Robert Downey Jr, Jack Black, & Ben Stiller are a few of the names in Dreamworks Pictures new release Tropic Thunder. I received a review copy of Tropic Thunder and have been itching to watch it because Jack Black and Ben Stiller are two of my favorite comedic actors. I was shocked to discover that this movie is full of big names, Tom Cruise, Tobey Maguire, & Matthew McConaughey to name a few.

On the set of the most expensive war film being made, a group of self absorbed actors are driving the director nuts! After a $4 million explosion is botched, the studio cancels the movie and the director sets out to make the perfect war movie by dropping the actors in the jungles in Southeast Asia. Tropic Thunder is action packed once they hit the jungles. Some of the actors believe that they are still on a set, while others realize that the bullets are real. They have to try to find their way back to the drop zone while the evil Tom Cruise (Tropic Thunder producer) wants to leave the cast to die in the jungles of Asia to later collect the insurance money. There is a hillarious scene between Cruise and McConaughey where Cruise's character tries to concince McConaughey (Stiller's agent) to leave them in the jungle and collect the insurance money. This was possibly my favorite. With a fat suit and a bald head, Cruise dances to "Shorty Got Low". This is too funny.

Robert Downey Jr also cracked me up in this film. He is portraying a black soldier and had I not known he was in the movie, I would not have recognized him. This movie is a typical Ben Stiller comedy with some over the top humor spoofing 30 years worth of war films. My husband and I both enjoyed this movie, but we had to put a movie in for the kiddos to watch in their room while we watched because it is definitely not a kids movie. It's available now on Dreamworks DVD & Blueray.
