Manic Monday #25 - Wind
Wind farms could generate as much as 7 percent of U.S. electricity in 15 years.A wind turbine is a machine for converting the kinetic energy in wind into mechanical energy. If the mechanical energy is used directly by machinery, such as a pump or grinding stones, the machine is usually called a windmill. If the mechanical energy is then converted to electricity, the machine is called a wind generator....and now for your viewing pleasure...

Very cool slide show!! I have enough family out in Western Kansas, that I get out that way to see the windmills (turbines) several times a year!

We have a lot of these generators just up the road from us, in Tehachapi where we plan on moving in a couple of years. It's important to choose your property so you're not overlooking them!
I love the white windmill against the dark sky...

We have those wind turbines in Alberta (the province next to mine - on the praries) and I always love seeing them. They are HUGE, and so impressive!

wind turbines are great help to everyone but some says there are side effects on it. and they had already work on it.
What a wonderful slide show! I love learning about wind power. I wish we could install a turbine here, but the "maufactured home community" would frown on it.

I thought I was the only person in the world that actually likes Wind Farms!
Make that three. I worry about birds a bit, but the generators are so necessary and actually pretty that I'll trust the birds to learn how to get out of the way.

Aaaah, yes - I definitely enjoyed the viewing pleasure. We´ve got lots of wind machines in Germany, too. Some of the old windmills are still there. Most of them harbor nice restaurants today *yum*

I just read in Mother Earth magazine, that home wind generators are very popular now for people with farms & acreage.
In some parts of the country, people actually make enough of their own electricity with wind to be "off the grid" -- in fact, some people sell their extra current back to the utility companies! Because of this surge of popularity in wind technology for the home, there is a back-log of the generators (they're selling faster than companies can make them!)
