Thursday Thirteen # 6

Thirteen Things You Might Discover When Raising A Son

1. VCR's do not eject "PB & J" sandwiches even though TV commercials show they do.
2. When you hear the toilet flush and the words "uh oh", it's already too late.
3. A king size waterbed holds enough water to fill a 2000 sq. ft. house 4 inches deep.
4. If you spray hair spray on dust bunnies and run over them with roller blades, they can ignite.
5. A 3-year old Boy's voice is louder than 200 adults in a crowded restaurant.
6. Jelly toast will always fall jelly side down.
7. Play dough and microwave should not be used in the same sentence.
8. Super glue is forever.
9. Garbage bags do not make good parachutes.
10. You probably DO NOT want to know what that odor is.
11. Always look in the oven before you turn it on; plastic toys do not like ovens.
12. Brake fluid mixed with Clorox makes smoke, and lots of it.
13. 80% of Men who read this will try mixing the Clorox and brake fluid.

Or play dough! One day I couldn't figure out why the tape wouldn't eject and I lifted the door to find play dough smashed into it.

I remember enough of these gems from growing up. I once baked some of my mom's tole work because I didn't pull it out of the oven before I turned it on (she put her things in the oven, and turned on the oven light, to dry the paint a little faster). I also once mixed Ajax bathroom cleanser and some Bonnie Bell 10-0-6. Some fumes, but more of an immediate reaction - I never would have guessed that that amount of Ajax (about two teaspoonsful) would generate enough foam to fill a bathroom sink. But - hey, whaddayaknow! (whups...)

I would say a 3-year-old boy's voice is louder than 500 adults! and unfortunately, I've too often experienced the "uh oh" and the toilet flush.

And I always look in the oven - unfortunately, I sometimes forget to look in the toaster before I turn it on. That has gotten me in trouble.

Great list!

I don't have boys but I can tell you these discoveries apply to nephews too! Thanks for visiting my TT.

I've got a boy - he's only 4, so he hasn't yet tried the Clorox and brake fluid, but it wouldn't surprise me if that's awaiting me down the road a ways. LOL

One I've learned from personal experience - Snot wiped on a shirtsleeve and left crusted there will reconstitute itself in the wash. EWWWW.

Happy TT!

LOL great list! I'll have to keep all of these things in mind. My first child - a son - is due in just five short weeks!!

I have a friend who's having her first baby in less than two weeks and it's a boy. I should give her this list.

Good list! Mother Nature gave me two girls, but my SIL (who has 3 boys) can probably relate :-)

Ooooh, that is a good list.
But my Not The Mama says that the other 20% of #13 must be the gay ones, cuz he'd never do anything like that!!!
We are quite intrigued by #4, however....

this was a very fun TT!
Our 19th one is up at

Having raised a son, and have 4 grandsons, I love this TT! My son tried 'cleaning out his diaper' once by himself. My husband just happened to go in and catch the diaper before it got down the toilet!

Your son should do quite well in chemistry when he gets older :) Happy TT.

This is a riot.. tho perhaps not on your end... your writing about it gives me hope that you are perhaps already getting some perspective on some of these trials! I can't imagine how anyone ever figured out #4 - personally I don't go around testing types of friction on hairsprayed items in the world :) Thanks for the huge chuckles! Happy TT :)
