Rhea Lana's Children's Consignment Sale

Rhea Lana's of Searcy Children Consignment Event is NEXT WEEK!!

March 15-19 at The White County Fairgrounds located at 802 Davis Drive in Searcy, Arkansas. The event will Open daily at 10 AM. I have shopped this event before and NEVER leave disappointed. It's a great opportunity to get high quality clothes at bargain prices.

This is the first year, however I have consigned. I am very excited about it. Normally I pass all of my children's clothes down to my little sister who has children younger than mine. But, my children are at the age now where I am not being given clothes anymore, so I am having to buy all new clothes, so I thought that I might as well take the clothes that are still in great shape and try to make a little bit of money from them to put toward the purchase of new clothes for my own children.

Just yesterday I had to take Tyler to buy a new pair of shoes. The kid is five years old and already in a size one shoe!! We bought him new shoes in January, size 13 and he has already outgrown them. The trouble with my son's clothes is that most of them are not in "consignable" condition! He wears them out. There are a few shirts and jeans that we will put in the sale because they were either church clothes or he outgrew them so fast he never really wore them.

I still have a lot to do between now and Saturday to get the clothes priced and tagged, but so I had better get busy. This is what I have left. There are 37 pair of jeans in that tote along with several shirts and lots of shoes, receiving blankets, and miscellaneous baby items that we no longer need.

I will also be pricing these baby toys that Emily no longer plays with. She was not happy when she saw that I had removed them from her room. She insisted that she still wanted them, but when I told her she could take the money we make from selling those toys and buy her new ones, she was quickly on board and tried going to her room to bring me more!

Are you consigning at this event, or have you consigned at events past? It seems like lots of work, so I am hoping that all of this hard work has paid off. I know that right now my house is a cluttered mess with all of the things that still need to be priced, but hopefully once it is all gone it will not return and I'll gather a nice check at the end of the sale!

Shopping Time!

I got a jump start on my Christmas shopping over the weekend!! Normally we are the family that is scrambling last minute to buy gifts. This year while my husband was gone traipsing around in the deer woods stalking Bambi's Mom and Dad, my oldest daughter and I decided to head to the mall and do some shopping. We had a great time and got quite a bit of Christmas shopping under our belts. School teachers gifts are bought. We also got lots of great deals for several folks on our shopping list. So, how far along are you with your Christmas shopping? If not, when do you start?

We don't have our Christmas tree up just yet. We always wait until after Christmas at least to put up the tree. Since Shelby's birthday is November 29, we usually wait until after then to put up the tree so not to detract from her special day. It's exciting to know that we'll actually have gifts to put under there once we get the tree up! So, what are your Christmas tree rituals? Is there a certain time you put it up and when do you take it down?

First things first, though...THANKSGIVING!!! I can't wait!!

Age Doesn't Make You Forgetful, Does It?!?!

Should I be worried that I am 32 years old and I've lost my car twice this week in the Wal-Mart parking lot?!?! Seriously, I am not talking about just walking out and being in the wrong aisle only to realize that I was one aisle over. I am talking about walking around on the hot asphalt with the sun beaming down full force almost in tears using my key ring "clicker" to hear my van or see the flashing lights!!

Today it happened and I began by chuckling when a few folks laughed and asked, "Did you lose your car?". At first, I just laughed and remembered that I was on the phone with my sister when I pulled up and I must have just forgotten where I parked. I knew I had a fairly close spot, because I was excited about being by the door. I had to go to the restroom, so I kept thinking that I went in on the side where the restrooms were closest. Unfortunately, after about 15 minutes of endless, frantic searching I realized that it clearly wasn't the case!

Finally after searching every aisle on that side, I went to the other and there it was! I think that a light shone down from heaven with a big arrow pointing me to the van when I finally saw it! I could hear trumpets sound and all was well. Of course I was still hot, sticky, and completely embarrassed! I am serious when I say that I was almost in tears thing that someone had stolen my mini-van! Why on earth would someone want to steal a mini-van?! I have no idea, but surely a 32 year old mother of three would not just lose it, right?!?!

Earlier in the week I did the same thing. Only I was on the right side, just wasn't walking down far enough. Oh, and then there was a few weeks ago when the entire family (hubby drove) went to Wal-Mart and when we started out I reminded him that we were on the other side. There's no sense in walking around in the heat anymore than we have to, so we walked out and there was NO van. Finally hubby chimed in that we were on the other side. I argued a bit that he was wrong and then decided to flatter him because by this time I think that I'd lost 10lbs in sweat. When we found the van, he was beaming from ear to ear because he was right and I was wrong. I couldn't be angry, because I was never so happy to see an air conditioned vehicle!

Now, this leads me to my concern. I mentioned that I am still fairly young. Forgetting where I left my keys, shoes, purse, etc...that's one thing, but forgetting where I left my vehicle, I would place that in a slightly larger category of things that one should not misplace!! Thankfully, all three kids are accounted for (I think!!) and I haven't lost one yet. But, I'm not making any promises with this mind of mine. It is CrAzY ya know!!! In the meantime I'm contacting "The Hoff" to inquire purchasing KIT, the talking car so when I am ready to go he can meet me at the door! ;)

How Do You Get Gum Out Of Hair?

Saturday morning I had the opportunity to get out of the house without any children. As a busy mother of three, I rarely have that kind of time..."ME" time! On this day, I got to enjoy my time shopping. No, not the kind of shopping you might think. I didn't get to pick out a cute new outfit with matching shoes. I got to go grocery shopping! Is it sad that I get excited because I get to go to Wal-Mart alone?! That's exactly how exciting my life really is.

While I was at Wal-Mart, my husband kept all three of the kids. I don't think I had been gone for 20 minutes before I got a phone call from him asking:

"How do you get gum out of hair?"

Yes, of course I told him to try peanut butter and ice. I finished my shopping wondering how bad the gum was and whether or not he'd gotten it out.

When I returned home, I think Shelby had a half a jar of peanut butter on her head. The good thing is that most of the gum is out of her hair. Apparently her brother was trying to blow a bubble and he blew the gum into her hair. It was that shredded gum,, the "baseball" gum given to him by someone...the same someone who gave the kids ducks and chickens at Easter. Needless to say, she no longer has gum in her hair and Tyler no longer has a pack of birthday gum.

Status Report - Are You Finished Shopping?

I am happy to report that I am finished...Christmas shopping that is. Brien and I completed the last bit of our shopping over the weekend. We've been to Toys R Us, the mall, and many other places, but managed to avoid Best Buy which was all right by me. I am waiting on a couple of things to come in via mail. I will be at ease once we are able to have them safely wrapped under the tree. Christmas cards have been mailed. I have one package that needs to be shipped to Texas. I will send it out this week to ensure that my little sister gets her Christmas on time. I am so relieved to know that it's all complete as we are usually scrambling a few days before to finish up.

My Waiter Gave Me Crabs...

My husband, Brien and I had the pleasure of visiting a Joe's Crab Shack this weekend for the first time. We both enjoyed it. I danced with the staff to the Cha Cha Slide. I think I only slightly embarrassed my husband. One of my favorite reality shows is "The Deadliest Catch" where the crewmen of crab fishing boats risk their lives to gather crab from the Bering Sea for lucky folks like us to eat. It was quite comical to watch us (first timers) try to figure out how to get the succulent meat from that horrid shell. It was quite delicious. After I had already finished only a small portion of my massive bucket of seafood with potatoes and corn, the waiter came over and showed us how to break the leg so that the meat comes out in one, nice scrumptious piece. Thanks for that, dude.

We had a wonderful time while in Louisiana for two days. It was a nice break from the monotony of trying to find affordable health insurance and the other woes of owning a small business. We visited the Boardwalk and did some shopping. Brien got to visit his favorite store, The Bass Pro Shop. He didn't like it as much as the one in Springfield, but it was good enough for him to fill up a cart! We had a nice break from the kids and spent some quality time with one another. That is always nice. The kiddos were in good hands with Brien's Mom and Dad. They love staying. In fact, Tyler was reluctant to come home. We had to bribe him by telling him we'd bought him some things! He was ready to go back after he got the goods.

I was ready to be back home, yesterday. I did miss my kids quite terribly. My best friend lost her grandma this morning, so I am going to visit with her and her family in a bit. Please keep Becca and her family in your prayers. They've had a rough week. I love you, Bec and I hope you know that.

I've Created a Monster!!!

Last Thursday Shelby and I went with my Mother-In-Law to do some shopping in North Little Rock (about 45 miles away). We don't get to do this kind of shopping often. It's a treat to go to the mall. We live in a small town with very limited shopping centers. We have a JC Penney, Bath and Body, and a few clothing shops but mostly we shop at Wal-Mart just because that's really all there is. The closest Target is in NLR (about an hour's drive).

Shelby loved being at the mall. She has not been in a long time and she proudly procclaimed as we left that "The mall is WAY more fun than Wal-Mart".

Every day since our venture she's asked if we were going to the mall today. So, what do you think? I believe that I might have created a monster, a shopping monster that is!

The Manic Monday Master

This weekend Brien and I took a little get away trip with my sister and her significant other. We went to Branson, Missouri Friday afternoon and spent the weekend there. We did quite a bit of shopping at their many outlet malls and flea markets. We caught MANY things on sale. Everything from Gucci watches to Nike Shoes. There were lots of stores with 60 and 75% off. Unfortunately some stores are way out of my price range even with the big sales! We had a lovely time, but I am glad to be back home. Unfortunately we didn't get in until late last night, so there is not only shopping bags all over my living room and kitchen, but there are also bags of luggage located everywhere! I'll have a busy evening cleaning up, to say the least.

I must also note that Mo has put the Manic Monday site up for sale. I hate to see it change hands because Mo has done such a fantastic job with this Meme, but I can understand his reasoning behind leaving. He has many blogs and many other priorities. Advice for a budding enthusiast

This is the camera that I'm looking at buying. It is a Canon Digital Rebel XSi 12.2 MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens. I am currently using a Kodak DX6490 which I love. It's a great camera, but I am wanting a little more. It is 4.0MP where the Canon is 12.2. This is the major attraction to this camera. I have a birthday coming up and I am looking for some advice from some fellow photo enthusiasts. I love to take pictures and I want something that is easy to use and takes great pictures as well. Maybe then I'll buy a Zero Halliburton briefcase to carry it in! What kind of camera do you use and how do you feel about it? What accessories are a necessity for your camera, such as a zoom lens? Please leave me a comment and any advice that you can. Thanks!

Birthdays, Dates, and Adult Conversations!

Yesterday my neice Katie had a High School Musical birthday party. She'x not six just yet. She will turn 6 on Tuesday. She was an early birthday present for her Auntie Tisha 6 years ago, she was born the day before my birthday!!! The kiddos had a fun time eating pizza, cake, and playing games. I got to play my sister at air hockey. I always have fun doing that. She tries so hard, but sorry Mandy you'll never beat me!!!! Mwaaaahhhhaaa...the funny part is that she also played my daughter, Shelby and she didn't beat her either. Mandy is good at a lot of things, but air hockey is not one of them. heh heh heh

What I do love about my sister Mandy and her daughter Katie is that they Shelby (who will celebrate her sixth birthday on the 29th). Shelby loves them as well. They took her home with them yesterday so Shelby could help Katie break in all of her new toys. Tyler and little Emily Grace went home with my mother in law (who I could not survive without!).

Brien and I took this opportunity to have a date night. We went shopping for Shelby's birthday. We had a lovely time and ended the evening with a wonderful dinner where I enjoyed two yummy strawberry margaritas and wonderful adult conversation. I almost felt impelled to cut Brien's parmesean encrusted talapia for him, though since I had no children to tend to. It was a nice time for us, and I was glad to get a good night's sleep and get to sleep in a bit this morning as well.

Conversations with Tyler

As we were shopping at Wal-Mart, this conversation transpired as Tyler and I were picking out some tomatoes from the produce department. There was a lady nearby on a ladder hanging Christmas decorations.

Tyler: Mommy, what's that lady doing on that ladder?

Me: *sigh* She's hanging Christmas decorations.

Tyler: Why?

Me: Because Christmas is just a couple of months away.

Tyler: When we get home, can we put up our Christmas decorations?

Me: *shuddering at the thought* No, son we don't put up our decorations until December.

Maybe next year we'll just skip Halloween and Thanksgiving and put Christmas up after the 4th of July. Whaddya think?! When do you typically put up your Christmas decorations? Since Shelby's birthday is the 29th of November, we refrain from any decorations until after then. We'll put up our tree and decorations the first weekend in December. That's soon enough for me!!!

The Result of My Retail Therapy

Okay, it is MAJOR fun shopping for a little girl but not so much fun shopping for her momma six weeks after her birth. Not all of these outfits are new. Some are hand me downs, but there are lots of cute things. It's just so much fun dressing a little girl. I just wish she had some hair for bows. I found lots of dressy outfits, some funny t-shirts, some shoes, blue jeans, and even a little ballerina type outfit that I just know her big sister is going to LOVE! Don't worry, though the other two kids didn't get left out. Shelby got some new shirts and Tyler got a couple of pair of pajamas and some shirts. They are all outfitted for winter now.

Whew!

I am SO glad that I am finished with my Christmas shopping. It seems like every year there's that ONE person that you just haven't found the right gift for every year and the count down begins. This year that will not happen to me because I am finished with mine. Yes, my friends they are all (well most of them) are wrapped and tucked safely under the tree! I think that there's pretty much one of everything under there with the exception of HDMI switches of course. The kids are still too young to ask for this one.

Shopping and more shopping...

Yesterday was a fun day! We went...*gulp*...Christmas shopping. Our saving grace was that the weather was horrible. It was cold and rainy. We took the kids to the local Wal-Mart to visit with Santa. The good thing about going here versus the capital city which is an hour drive and horrible traffic is that there were NO lines. Yup, you heard me right. There was absolutely no one waiting to see the jolly ole St Nick so we got right in and the kids sat on his lap, the picture was snapped and we were on our way in minutes.

Since my scanner is not working (yup, I've got one on my list) I can't post the photo here, but suffice it to say that it was quite comical. Shelby was doing her normal cheesy, "I'm cuter than you" pose while Tyler had the fear of God in his eyes! It's just too darn funny. I did make a couple of copies for my mother and mother-in-law and got them some festive frames to place them in. I also got one for myself.

We took the kids out to the in-laws so we could finish up our shopping yesterday afternoon. We did so and the kids were none the wiser. We told them we had to go back and talk to Santa and make sure he knew exactly what they wanted. ;) The crowds weren't so bad where we shopped. There were lots of folks around the jewelry counter looking at gold chains and watches. There is only one person on our list that we haven't bought for just yet and I'm leaving this one up to Brien. Hopefully he'll come up with something by this weekend and we can pick it up so we can say we're completely finished!!

New Clothes

I've got to go shopping, and soon! The bad thing is that I need to go shopping for myself. That is something I despise. Seriously, I HATE shopping for myself. I LOVE to shop for my children, especially my daughter because clothes are always in abundance for little girls. It's easy to find cute thing that I just know she'll love. For myself, it's usually not that easy. Maybe I'll do a bit of shopping at the online cloth ing store. This might make decision making a bit easier. Are you in the same situation as myself? Do you love to shop for everyone else in your family BUT yourself? I guess maybe it's just a mommy thing, hmmmm?
