Is That My Thumb in Your Plate of Green Beans?!?

I am going to admit something here that not many people know about me.  I have recurring nightmares about chopping off my fingertips.  Whew, okay there I said it!  I am serious.  I have nightmares that while I am cutting veggies for dinner I accidentally let the knife slip and cut off appendages.  I'm not sure why.  I've never had any serious incidents involving knife slippage, although my sister did cut her fingers one time on a meat slicer.  I wasn't there at the time, but did meet her at the ER and almost passed out when I saw the aftermath.  I also accompanied my husband to the emergency clinic after he nearly took out his eye while taking the garage door down when transforming the garage into a bedroom for the baby to come, Emily.  I was actually in the room as the doctor stitched him up...BAD IDEA!  I was preggers, and I almost passed out then too.  I used the pregnancy as an excuse, but the truth is I don't do so well under trauma.  If one of the kids are hurt I can stand pretty tall under pressure until after the fact, but I digress.

I was preparing some fried green beans for dinner tonight.  I like to add onion and bacon in with my green beans because I am a true southern gal.  Like a dope, I added the onion first which meant I was slicing up the bacon with tears in my eyes.  I'm sure that by now you can guess where I'm going with this story!  The next thing I know I was trying to quickly get the bacon in the skillet because hubby had the steaks on the grill and I was also making a salad and baked sweet potatoes (topped with butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar).  I'm making you hungry aren't I?  But wait...I'm about to send you running away from my kitchen.

My nightmare came true tonight!  Okay, so it's not that bad.  I only sliced through a portion of my left thumb and nail.  I am glad that my husband was home to run to my aid as I ran screaming through the house to the restroom.  He met me there and told me to run water on it while he found the first aid kit.  Thankfully he managed to put some triple antibiotic ointment on it and bandage it up for me and I managed to NOT pass out.  Maybe I should get some sort of accident insurance quotes just in case I do happen to cut off a finger!  Don't you think that I might need to take the rest of the week off work so that I can nurse my thumb back to health?  Perhaps hubby should cook dinner for the rest of the week to keep me from undergoing any further trauma and maybe the children could just hitch a ride back and forth to school/daycare!  Okay, well a girl can dream can't she?
The moral of this story: if you ever have dinner at my house, know that I put my heart and soul into my cooking. You just might take home a little piece of me with you!

Wumblers DVD Review

After Mom and former teacher, Laura Wellington lost her husband to cancer she wanted to help her own four children cope with the loss.  She came up with a brilliant idea and created The Wumbler Series and The Wumbler Patch. It is wonderful to see ordinary women taking a truly negative situation and turning it into a positive, not just for their own self, but for others as well.

Both The Wumblers series and The Wumbler Patch brand support "Green Living" throughout the story lines pertaining to all aspects of The Wumblers series. Wumbleton is an extremely non-wasteful society where food falls from the sky only when needed, babies are born from watermelon, and Mother Wumbler provides the "green" lessons that the entire community lives by.

The Wumblers teach character building, and spread positive, family friendly messages in a non-intrusive way. The main Wumbler is Bertrum and when a Wumbler turns five years old they also turn into the color they are supposed to be. The very first episode in the series shows how Bertrum is so nervous that once he turns color people won't like him anymore. His best buddy Raimundo, a Spanish speaking snail and his imaginary friends reassures him that everyone loves him for who he is on the inside not what color he is on the outside. It is messages like this that thread their way throughout each episode.

We received a Wumbler DVD (Volume 2) which contains two episodes:  "Roosters Don't Bark" and "I'm Too Small" as well as a collector plush Wumbler that my youngest daughter fell in love with!  We immediately had to go online and register our Wumbler. The kids were also excited to see the series on the Trinity Broadcasting Network! You can see all of the scheduled TV listings by clicking here.

Roosters Don't Bark teaches a beautiful lesson about self acceptance.  Lenny, Mr Flynns rooster overhears how much everyone loves their dogs and cats, he decides that he wants to be one as well.  After Lenny tries to be every pet imaginable, even a goldfish he learns from his friends that "being you is the best thing to do"!

I'm Too Small tackles an issue that most parents with young children have delt with.  All of the Wumblers were trying to get to the Watermelon Patch.  In order to ride the train, they had to be measured to see if they were tall enough to ride.  Raimundo was too small to ride because the safety bar would not hold him in.  This made him sad, especially when he was called names, like "short shell".  Thankfully Raimundo helps Baby Jasper later and realizes that his size might hinder him sometimes but made him the hero in the end!

My thoughts:
I really loved the message that The Wumblers bring.  The bright colors were eye catching and seemed to really intrigue my 18 month old daughter.  The older two children (ages 4 and 7) also liked the series and seemed to understand the message.  We had a discussion after the I'm Too Small episode because we have been in such situations when we were at fairs and amusement parks so they knew how Raimundo felt when hew as refused a ride on the train.  All in all, I think that The Wumblers DVDs are a very good investment for any parent who is looking for some good, wholesome entertainment for your children.

For more information on The Wumblers Series or The Wumbler Patch, you can check out the website. For purchase information you can click here.  You can also become a fan of The Wumblers on Facebook.

The Law Is The Law

So if the US government determines that it is against the law for the words under God to be on our money, then, so be it.

And if that same government decides that the Ten Commandments are not to be used in or on a government installation, then, so be it.

I say, so be it, because I would like to be a law abiding US citizen.
I say, so be it, because I would like to think that smarter people than I are in positions to make good decisions.

I would like to think that those people have the American public's best interests at heart.

BUT, YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE I'D LIKE?
Since we can't pray to God, can't Trust in God and cannot post his commandments in Government buildings, I don't believe the Government and its employees should participate in the Easter and Christmas celebrations which honor the God that our government is eliminating from many facets of American life.

I'd like my mail delivered on Christmas, Good Friday, Thanksgiving & Easter. After all, it's just another day. I'd like the US Supreme Court to be in session on Christmas, Good Friday, Thanksgiving & Easter as well as Sundays. After all, it's just another day.

I'd like the Senate and the House of Representatives to not have to worry about getting home for the Christmas Break. After all it's just another day.

I'm thinking that a lot of my taxpayer dollars could be saved, if all government offices & services would work on Christmas, Good Friday & Easter. It shouldn't cost any overtime since those would be just like any other day of the week to a government that is trying to be politically correct.

In fact....I think that our government should work on Sundays (initially set aside for worshiping God....) because, after all, our government says that it should be just another day.

What do you all think ?

If this idea gets to enough people, maybe our elected officials will stop giving in to the "minority opinions" and begin, once again, to represent the "majority" of ALL of the American people.

SO BE IT...........

Please Dear Lord,

Give us the help needed to keep you in our country!

'Amen'

Free Willy Escape From Pirate's Cove Review

{Contest Closed}
Winners: Pixie13 & Cheryl

Well, isn't she a beauty?!?  I think so and I just know her father would have been so proud of her.  I'm talking about Bindi Irwin.  She's such a sweet and very talented little girl.  When I saw the trailer to Free Willy Escape From Pirate's Cove I was intrigued but even more so when I realized that Bindi Irwin, the daughter of the late great Steve Irwin was in it.  I remember watching the first Free Willy movie when it came to DVD.  I was excited to show this one to my children.  They were just as excited to watch!

Irwin plays Kirra who leaves her Australian home to vacation for the summer with her father, played by Beau Bridges in South Africa.  Kirra discovers a baby orca who has become stranded in the lagoon near her grandfather's run down amusement park.  She takes it upon herself to return the whale who she names Willy to his pod in order to keep a rival theme park owner from using him as an attraction in his park.

The DVD is available NOW on Blu-Ray combo pack, DVD, and download.  You can also check out the official site where you can see the official movie trailer, play games, view photos as well as videos as well as downloads.

DVD Extras include:

Free Willy pop-up fun track
On the Set of Free Willy: Greetings from South Africa
Bindi Irwin and Willy invite all to "Meet My Wild Co-Stars"

Looking at the Sky on Friday

Photobucket

It's been a crazy week to say the least. The kids have been on Spring Break. We went to Branson on a mini-vacation, and I have been out of the office every day up until yesterday. So, needless to say I am backlogged in blogging, office work, laundry, and housework! But, we've had a fun time and I'm slowly starting to play catch up.  The weather here has been perfect (up until today!) so here's to hoping yours has as well and you're starting to pull off those pool and spa covers!

The 65 Roses Tour in Searcy, Arkansas

Shelby, Emily, & Tyler (my babies!)
As a mother of three healthy children, I count my blessings daily.  For the entire nine months I carried the three of them, I remember the constant worry that there would be something wrong when they were born.  After they arrived, I would wake countless times in the night just to hear their sweet, content breaths and watch their chest rise and fall.  Even now with my three children at the ages of 7, 4, and 1.5 I still do the same thing.  I cannot imagine the pain that a parent faces when finding out that their child is facing a life time of treatments due to an illness or even worse.

Cystic Fibrosis is one of those illnesses.  You may be like I was, you'd heard of Cystic Fibrosis but never really knew exactly what it was. Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food. You can read more about Cystic Fibrosis here.

Kelsy Odom and Shelby Black volunteering at the Family Fun Stop!

65 Roses" is what some children with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) call their disease because the words are much easier for them to pronounce. 65 Roses® is a registered trademark of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. You can click here read more on the story of Mary G Weiss and her volunteer efforts.

Sweet little Aven.
This year in my hometown of Searcy, Arkansas through the efforts of some awesome people, the first 65 Roses Bike Tour was established.  When my husband and I heard of this awesome event, we knew that we wanted to be a part of it!  If you have read the story of sweet little Aven, you will feel the same way.  I was fortunate enough to meet her on Saturday and I must say it was such a blessing to see such a beautiful, energetic girl singing and dancing.  What a blessing to know that this was organized to help to find a cure for this debilitating disease that effects this beautiful gift from God.  You see, had I not known Aven was sick with CF, I would have never known that she wasn't a healthy, vibrant girl like all of the other little girls at the park that she played and danced with.  She's beautiful, kind, and not a bad dancer either!

Since I am by no means a cyclist, I knew that my efforts would have to be in the form of volunteering.  Thankfully I have a wonderful husband who was also willing to do his part.  My wonderful sister and I got together with our friend April who has "adopted" us as sisters.  We had a fun night of playing Betty Crocker.  We baked cookies with our children (well, we baked cookies while the children played!) to hand out at the family fun stop (1/2 way point) on the Family Fun Ride.   We baked 13 dozen cookies and most of them made it to the family fun stop.  Of course there were some set aside for samples and the dough had to be tested as well.

We had the extreme pleasure of handing out cookies and water to the cyclists on the Family Fun Ride and I was so excited to capture a few shots of the riders entering and exiting the stop as well as posing with friends in front of the "We Took The Challenge" sign.  It was great fun and such an amazing experience to know that everyone there was in their own way helping to fight this disease.  The weather threatened to be dreadful for the bicycle tour, but I believe that prayers were answered because the rain held off until the festivities were over.
Some of the volunteers who helped make this possible.

This is SO his color!

According to the 65 Roses Facebook Page, there were 207 Cyclists in this, it's first year and raised an estimated $6000!  Keep in mind that this was the first weekend of spring break.  I am certain that this hindered attendance a bit.  But, am so happy that Searcy came out to show their support for such a worthy cause!  I cannot wait to help out next year and am positively certain that these numbers will at least double!

Students coming together for a great cause!

Not only sponsors but riders as well!
To see more photos from the tour, you can click here. You may purchase high resolution digital images of these photos at $5.00 each with the proceeds to benefit the CF Foundation.

Amber on the radio.
I would just like to say a special thanks to an old friend, Brittany (Aven's Mommy) for being such a strong person and always keeping a positive attitude.  That is something that I always loved about you.  Your smile was always so beautiful and still remains so after all these years.  Amber (Aven's Auntie), you are such an inspiration!  I am so proud to call you a friend.  Your efforts for this fund raiser were so phenomenal!  Even though you had almost no sleep you were running at full speed for this event.  It was orchestrated like a well oiled machine.  You worked so hard to accomplish such an awe inspiring event and you did it!!!  I am so proud of you.  I know that your brother is proud of you as we are all proud of HIM for completing this bike tour in honor of his beautiful daughter, Aven.  I am also proud to call Searcy my home town.  I did not grow up here, but am proud to say that I am so glad that my children are.  Thank you, Searcy for coming out to support such a worth cause!  To see the rest of my photos from the tour (Family Fun Stop and Spring Park), click here.

Away on Vacation

Thanks to everyone for the overwhelming amount of entries for the Disney's Princess and The Frog DVD Giveaway.  The winner will be announced next week.

We're celebrating Spring Break this weekend and next week, so I will be away from the blog until the middle of next week.

I hope you all are enjoying some beautiful weather and if you're Spring Breaking, have a great time!  I'll see ya 'round next week!

10 Percent Down!

Fridays are weigh in days for me.  I was surprised today when I was another pound and a half down this morning.  I was hoping to hit my 20 pound goal this week, but sadly enough I have only reached 19.  I have set a 20 pound goal for myself.  When I reach 20 pounds I would like to go get a few tanning visits so that I can be a bit bronzed for the upcoming (I HOPE!!) warmer weather.

Surprisingly enough, however I have reached a milestone in my weight loss.  I have lost 10% of my body weight.  According to Weight Watchers, losing 10% of your body weight can give you the self-confidence and motivation you need to keep going and increases feelings of vigor and vitality. There are also health benefits to losing 10% of your body weight including lowering cholesterol and reducing blood pressure as well as decreasing your risk for Type 2 diabetes! So, not only am I fitting into those "skinny" jeans I couldn't wear for so long, but also I am finding a healthier, more vigorous ME!

It's great to not only see the weight loss myself, but when others notice it's an even greater feeling. Thanks to everyone for your support. Without it, I know that I could not be losing! It's time to kick my KVM switch into high gear! I am hoping that next week I will reach that 20 pound milestone and hit the tanning bed.

Looking at the Sky on Friday

Photobucket

Thanks to those of you who left comments last week.  My apologies for not having a photo.  It was a long week and I just didn't have the time or energy to find a photo to post. This week I got a jump start on it because I knew with the time change it would be a tough week. The only good thing I've noticed so far with daylight savings time is that we are leaving just as the sun is rising and I've captured some beautiful sunrises like the one you see pictured above.  So, thanks so much to all of you who were concerned about the lack of a photo on last week's post.  I always appreciate comments when folks drop by and sign McLinky.  I get them via my Blackberry, but if you just leave a link and no comment I might not know you've been here until later when I can get online.

The Princess and The Frog Give Away - Sticky Post

Shelby and I had plans to go see Disney's The Princess and The Frog on the big screen, but we never made it. We were excited to learn of it's March 16th release to on Blu-ray™ Combo Pack and DVD. You see, we read a story each night at bedtime. I like to buy Shelby chapter books and we read one or two chapters each night. We read this story and we both fell in love with it.  It's the story of Tiana, a beautiful hard working young woman who dreams of owning her own restaurant some day.  She has no idea how far that dream will take her.  But, with the help of friends and the courage to overcome the greatest of odds, Tiana learns what she really needs to make her dreams become a reality.

It is a wonderful story about following your dreams.  Shelby and I love Disney's newest princess.  Tiana is a great role model for all young girls as she never gives up on her dream of owning a restaurant, even when it looks like all hope is gone.  Of course all of Disney's movies include wonderful messages, I felt like this one sends a message that most anyone, young and old can connect with!

The single disk DVD comes with: deleted Scenes, audio commentary by John Musker and Ron Clements (co-writers and directors) and Peter Del Vecho (producer), “Never Knew I Needed” a Music video by Ne-Yo, as well as What Do You See: Princess Portraits — A bayou-style quiz tests viewers’ knowledge of all of Disney’s beautiful princesses. Ray’s firefly family creates twinkling portraits of each princess and if the player correctly identifies her, they can enjoy a tongue-cheek mini re-telling of that character’s story.

The Blue Ray Combo Pack comes with additional bonus features including:

• Backstage Disney Magic In The Bayou: The Making of A Princess — Co-writers and directors John Musker and Ron Clements take a freewheeling, behind-the-scenes look at the making of Disney’s newest animated film.
• The Return To Hand Drawn Animation
• The Disney Legacy
• Disney’s Newest Princess
• The Princess and the Animator
• Conjuring The Villain
• A Return To The Animated Musical
• Bringing Life to Animation with an introduction by John Musker and Ron Clements.
• Deleted Scenes introduced by the filmmakers
• Art Galleries — A collection of storyboard art traces the visual development of The Princess and the Frog’s rich gallery of characters and settings

Real Mothers don't eat quiche;
They don't have time to make it.

Real Mothers know that their kitchen utensils
Are probably in the sandbox.

Real Mothers often have sticky floors,
Filthy ovens and happy kids.
Real Mothers know that dried play dough
Doesn't come out of carpets.

Real Mothers don't want to know what
The vacuum just sucked up...

Real Mothers sometimes ask 'Why me?'
And get their answer when a little
Voice says, 'Because I love you best.'

Real Mothers know that a child's growth
Is not measured by height or years or grade...
It is marked by the progression of Mommy to Mom to Mother.....

CrAzY Working Mom - The Life and Times

Many apologies to my regular readers for the lack of "personal" posts as of late.  It just seems like the older my kids get the less time I have for things like internet, private toilet time, and an uninterrupted, hot meal.  Just the other day I went to write a check and realized as I began to sign my name that I was using a crayon instead of a pen.  Next I will be looking for my eyeglasses while they're on my head...and I don't even wear them! It's a CrAzY life to say the least, but it's MY life and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Friday I spent the day at home cleaning the house that looked like it had been hit by a tornado.  Most of you might have heard and or read that there were tornadoes all around us on Thursday night but fortunately we were spared.  We know folks that had lots of damage in face, Brien had been in one particular spot working on one of the work trucks within minutes of when the storm rolled through the area!  I think I need to get him some prescription glasses so that he can read a radar screen!!

Brien and I when we were teens.
I realized late in the day on Friday that it was the anniversary of when my husband and I began to date. I was trying to do the math in my head (while reaching for those invisible glasses atop my head) to remember how long it had been. We had been out with friends. We spent every weekend at a local hang out where a live country band played every weekend. We knew every line dance and couple's dance there was to know back in the day. He asked me when he took me home:
"So, what is this? Are we dating, 'cause people keep asking me and I don't know what to tell them. I just tell them to ask you."
Of course I was quick to let him know that we were most certainly a couple. Hands off to all of those other chicks. He's off the market! As of Friday, March 12, 2010, he's been that way for 16 years. Since we are 32 years old this means that we've been together for half of our lives. Impressive isn't it?! I am proud to say that I love him just as much today as I did back then. I am so happy that we decided to tell people that we were an item.

Next week is Spring Break for us, so we're planning a little mini-vacation with my sister and her family to Branson, Missouri.  I guess I might as well just go ahead and order those glasses online in preparation! It'll be nice to get away for a few days. It's not Cancun, but it'll do for now. We'll most likely visit Silver Dollar City and The Dixie Stampede as well as the indoor swimming pool. The kids can't get enough swimming, ya know!

So, the moral of this post is that I am alive and well, living the life of the CrAzY Working Mom, full speed ahead. From parent teacher conferences to dirty diapers, I do it all! I try to keep you updated here as much as possible. If you follow me on Facebook, I can usually find more time to post mini statuses there via my Blackberry.

Today's DVD releases:

Disney's The Princess and The Frog- Disney’s newest princess, Tiana, joins ranks with Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Belle, Ariel, Pocahontas, Jasmine and Mulan. The Princess and the Frog is Disney’s first princess film since Mulan, which was released in June 1998.

You can read my full review and the DVD and BluRay extras in the previous contest post.  If you'd like a chance to win a copy of this DVD, click here.  The contest ends Friday!

Not to be outshined by a mere Princess, Caillou - Caillou Pretends to be is also available today on DVD from PBS.   Jam packed into this DVD are 14 episodes of the popular PBS for Kids Television show featuring the ever imaginative Caillou who pretends to be everything from a Police Officer to a builder.  This show definitely inspires imagination which I love.  The DVD includes extras such as “Caillou’s Music Videos,” interactive games, character bios, parents’ information and coloring pages.

My younger kids love PBS and enjoyed this DVD, I think my oldest was probably off somewhere fixing her hair or changing her clothes for the fifteenth time.  If you have younger children, this is a great video to keep around for those times when you need to get some chores done or take with you on vacation to pop in the DVD player as you travel as it's run time is approximately 100 minutes.
