New Year Resolutions and Traditions

We all make them, and we usually break them. This year, of course I want to lose some weight. There are lots of other things I will resolve to do...I'm sure the list will start out quite long, but by this time next year I will realize that I have not succeeded in any of them and will resolve to do them all over again. It is an endless cycle. Jay Leno put things into perspective when he said, "Now there are more overweight people in America than average-weight people. So overweight people are now average… which means, you have met your New Year's resolution." With that being said, I'm going to have another Christmas Cookie! :)

Black eyed Peas, do you eat them on New Year's Day? It has always been a tradition since as far back as I can remember traditions for a big pot of black eyed peas cooking on the stove all day on New Years Day. Everyone, whether or not you liked them had to have a bite. For years I never knew why we always had peas on new years. We just did. As I grew older and my curiosity peaked, I did some looking into it and realized that those black eyed peas actually caused us to have good luck in the new year! You haven't been lucky, you say...well, put you on a big ole pot of black eyed peas to change that. Don't forget to add some bacon or a big slab of ham. Cornbread, fried potatoes, and sweet tea are optional, but highly recommended.    Happy new year, my friends.

I gave up resolutions. This time I'm just going to be optimistic and say that 2010 will be much better than 2009... It can only get better from here... right?
