Manic Monday - Nuts

MM Headquarters ~ Previous MMs

A little trivia about my favorite candy bar with NUTS:
The Curtiss Candy Company has traditionally claimed that the Baby Ruth candy bar was named after President Grover Cleveland's daughter, Ruth Cleveland. Skeptics, however, are quick to point out that not only did Ruth Cleveland die 16 years before the introduction of the Baby Ruth bar, but the company had originally negotiated a failed endorsement deal with legendary baseball player Babe Ruth. Some have suggested that secretly naming the candy bar after Ruth was a way to tie him to their product without paying any royalties. Always a shrewd advertiser, company founder Otto Schnering chartered a plane in 1923 to drop thousands of Baby Ruth bars over the city of Pittsburgh -- each with its own mini parachute. His marketing plan must have worked -- Baby Ruth has gone on to become a top confectionary brand. Today, the Baby Ruth bar is owned by Nestlé.

I could sure go for some "fuel" about right now (followed by some alli diet pills)!!
What's your favorite fuel?!

I like Baby Ruth bars too.
Love how the antique ad makes it almost sound nutritious. :)

I wonder if Jasmine's ever even had a Baby Ruth bar... I'll have to ask and/or rectify the situation.

I was brought up above a newsagent and sweet shop. There wasn't a sweet or chocolate bar I couldn't name - or eat.

The advertiser was a genius of course aside from the sweetness of their candies who can forget the parachuted candy..Oh! I love chocolates, nuts and sweets, really it perks me up like coffee..

Unfortuanatley it has to be caffeine and sugar - not a good combination.

Great Post Tish! I didn't know any of that about the Baby Ruth Bar.

Coffee is what gives me the best boost. Well as good a boost as I can get from Folgers half and half. Regular coffee give me the jitters so bad I can't drink it.

I love your new header. The children look beautiful together! OMGoodness, Emily is getting so big already! You try to get some rest you hear? Love Ya'! :-)
Hugs,
Kimmie

I'm a purist. Simple Hershey Bar. Though I have to admit that candy isn't my downfall. Now put a pan of bread pudding in front of me and watch the calorie chomping vacuum cleaner go to work. :-)

I’m not participating in Manic Monday … (I ‘mused’ and ‘memed’ instead) … but I do enjoy munching mixed nuts for energy!
Hugs and blessings,

A Baby Ruth bar is good but whenever I want something with nuts I tend to go for an Almond Joy as I just love almonds and coconut, too!

Not only was this an interesting post about 'trickery', but I also love the 'tricky' way you slipped that ad link in here, hahaha. I'll remember that, maybe I can use it, lol.

I think Baby Ruths are my favorite candy bar - not to be confused with Reese's - which are my favorite... well, anything.
And Baby Ruth candy bars dropped from a plane - well, that's a LOT better than Les Nessman dropping frozen turkeys over Cincinnati for Thanksgiving, right?

Baby Ruth is one of the things from my childhood that remains just like it was! One of the few...
