Movie Review & A Contest!!!

I was lucky enough to receive a copy of one of Disney's newest creations, College Road Trip starring Raven Simone and Martin Lawrence in exchange for a review. First off let me say that I've been wanting to see this movie since I saw the first trailer. I am a huge fan of Martin Lawrence and he did not disappoint in this movie. Being a mom I could totally relate to his heart break in trying to accept the fact that his daughter wanted to go to a great college across country. There is a wonderful underlying message to this movie for parents and children alike. When we watched it, my little girl who is five actually cried. After the movie I asked her why she cried and she said that she was sad that the mom had to tell her little girl good bye. This in turn made me cry! Yup, we're a bunch of saps around here aren't we?!

Anyhow, back to the movie review. I definitely enjoyed this one. We watched it as a family. My two year old loved the crazy pig, especially when we ate the coffee beans. My daughter loved the fact that it starred one of her favorite Disney stars, Raven Simone (That's So Raven and Cheetah Girls). My husband and I enjoyed Martin Lawrence's performance as I previously mentioned. In the film, Raven's character Melanie Porter is an overachieving high school student who decides to venture cross country with her girlfriends on a college campus tour trip when her plan is foiled by her overprotective father who decides to tag along. This movie is packed with surprises and fun along the way when the younger brother, and his pet pig turn up along the trip. I don't want to give too much away, but suffice it to say that you'll enjoy this one just as much as we did, I'm sure of it.

Now for the contest. If you'd like to have your own copy of this DVD before it's release date, winning is easy. All you have to do is leave me a comment. Tell me about a Road trip that you have taken in your life. It can be a funny story, a heart felt story, when or where you went or something funny or amazing that happened along the way. Please make sure that you link back to your blog or e-mail so that I can contact you. I must limit this contest to US bloggers as well due to shipping and getting them out in a timely manner. I have more than one copy to give away, so don't be discouraged! Everyone join in. I look forward to reading your stories.

In the meantime here's a short clip from the movie:

GREAT contest!!

I have to try and decide which road trip to share...the trip back from Ohio and my sister's graduation with a minivan full of crap, my parents, my grandparents, me and my sister. I held a computer on my lap the entire way and for some reason I thought it would be an EXCELLENT idea to order a Reuben in the middle of PA!

Or how about the trip to Florida with my then fiancee. We were low on gas so we got off the highway in VA and had no idea where we were going. We came to the end of a street and my fiancee looked at me and asked, "which way?" I looked around and said, "Well, left is the way of the Devil so I would say right!" He looked at me and in that moment I think he finally realized what he was marrying!! We ended up at Hancock's service station and filled up!! :)

There are others but I'll leave you with those!

Hey there fellow crazy mama. Apparently I was so into your theme, I started to post a comment that should have began with, "They call me Ishmail".

Anywho...thank you for the thought. I am going to post an entire blog post about your question, because apparently I needed to vent about it? It will be in tomorrow's post if you want to come check it out.

Thanks again!!

Craziest Road Trip. I think that would be the one I started when I was younger when I had no money to return. Neither did my cohorts. We left home and headed to South Carolina. We wanted to buy some fireworks and Connecticut back then didn't sell them. We got to South Carolina but ended out having no money to buy fireworks or money to return. No good planners at that age. Also, in big trouble when we returned home to our parents.

Actually that was more stupid than crazy. My kids better NEVER do that to me.

LOL I love this!
When I was 14 or 15, my dad took my bro, my sis and I to Las Vegas. I don't know why, but oh well. We rented a car and drove to Arizona to see the Grand Canyon. My dad lead us to believe we were going to just go walk around at GC, so we all ate huge breakfasts. Yep, we all got sick on the airplane. On the road back, we were all quiet, and my brother was playing with this bow and arrow that my dad got him. For some reason, I turned around, and whammo! I got hit in the head with one of the 'arrows'. (they weren't real obviously. My brother got in trouble, and the rest of the night was a wash. We ordered in Chinese and went to bed.

We've all wanted to see this movie. We were going to go see it at the theatre, but time and money kept us from it. But i'm sure it will be a DVD purchase for us.

Unless I can win it here...lol... let's see... we have done many a road trip as as family. We've gone (from Alabama) to Dallas, to D.C., to Arkansas, to Savannah, to San Antonio, to Disney World. And there is nothing like being in a car for 20 hours with THREE daughters...but probably the craziest was a trip we took to Arkansas. The idea was to take my kids back to my childhood home to see the neighborhood where I grew up, the schools I went to, places I hung out, etc. In concept, it was a wonderfully sentimental trip that I hope my kids got at least something out of. The reality was that it rained the WHOLE time we were there and then the town I remembered as so exciting as a child really didn't have quite the charm as an adult. The things I remembered as enthralling took about a total of one whole day to show the kids and husband. Still, though...even though it wasn't too exciting...it holds fond memories for me and for what it meant as a way to connect my daughters with my own childhood.

And as a sidenote...my oldest goes to college in two years and she is already planning a few college road trips for this next year! :-)

What an awesome contest!! And great prize, especially for movie buffs!

Well if you've been by my blog you know that I just landed in Texas, relocated from Upstate NY. We had two mini vans and 13 people (one of which was a one year old baby!) on a 3 day road trip! Man oh man the quickest way to make family hate each other is to go on an extended road trip, through heat, and then torrential rains, lousy hotel rooms and a stinky little baby!!! But at the end of the day we still love each other!!... But I was sure glad to get out of that car!!
I posted a little bit about it on my blog, but I will be doing another update post in a few days (I'm still trying to unpack!!).

Wow...Not only did my longest comment lead to my longest post, I thought I would just drop by again and thank you for the trigger that reminded me of it.

Thanks!!

We went on a road trip to Florida - we moved there in 2000. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to do laundry for 1 week before we hit the road. We packed all the clothes from the closets & drawers in huge boxes. My kids had absolutely nothing to wear. My creative solution was to stop at a Cracker Barrel in every state we drove through for a meal and a shirt with the name of the state on it. I had forgotten about this until recently when my daughter (now 21) reminded me of the shirts.

When we moved to Idaho from California 20 years ago, we were a caravan of three cars...my in-laws in front of me, me, and then my husband behind me. It would take hours to tell the whole story, but suffice it to say it included a pillow that caught on fire from the glove compartment light bulb in my husband's car, a cockatiel that sqwaked the whole way there in my car, my having food poisoning and trying to find a bathroom in the middle of nowhere, and my in-laws constantly on the cb radio checking on us...they were calling me 'oreo' because I was the car in the middle. UGH! Somehow we made it to Idaho but we still talk about that horrible trip!

Ok, here's my Road Trip Story. It's kind of sad.

I was about 20 years old and my cousin and I decided that we wanted to go to New Smyrna Beach for a week's vacation. I lived in Indiana at the time and we decided to tell my mom that we were going with a group of girls and we were all riding down together. My mom was pretty strict so we knew if we told her the truth we wouldn't be able to go. Once she agreed to let us go with the group of girls, we figured it was ok if we went so Tina and I headed off in my little Toyota Paseo and had a blast in New Smyrna Beach. To this day, my mom still has no idea. I know I'm a horrible example for kids. It's not like we were partying or anything, we just wanted to go to lay out at the beach.

Road trip. Ah yes. My entire family were on a trip to San Diego and I suggested we get tickets to an exhibit of Impressionist paintings on tour from the Hermitage Museum. The morning of our reservations we all stuffed ourselves into the car and commenced the two to three hour drive from SD to LA, depending on traffic. I'd woken up that morning a little hot because someone had been fooling with the air conditioning in the house, but I figured I'd cool down quickly enough.

Not long into the drive I began to suspect I might be a bit feverish but I didn't want to spoil anything so I assured whoever was driving that I was fine.

More than halfway into the drive I decided I wasn't the least bit fine, but I insisted everyone else go to the exhibit and I'd wait in the lobby.

Yeah, well, by the time we got there I was deathly ill and nearly passed out on a bench in the bathroom. Everyone else raced through this magnificent exhibit in about 15 minutes and then they crammed me back into the car and discussed finding a place to eat lunch before heading back to SD, another two to three hour drive, depending on the traffic. But when they found a restaurant I staggered in, gagged, and begged to go back home, so everyone loaded into the car again and we headed back to San Diego, where I was sick in bed for two days.

When yo have a moment, please check out my giveaway. Thanks.

My road trip was in 1997 and it was a life changing experience. My 1st hubs of 25 years had left me for a younger woman and we had gotten divorced. I lived in the south, the kids were grown, and I was alone for the first time in a long time. I packed up the car one morning, and took off on a three day journey to my mom's in CA.

Driving over 2,000 miles alone makes you do a lot of thinking, and by the time I got there, I knew what I wanted to do. I flew back home two weeks later and moved to CA. Best thing I ever did. I learned who I was on that road trip. Everone should take at least one road trip alone in their life.
