The Big Announcement

For quite some time now I've been eluding to some big news to come at our house. I could not let the cat out of the bag because there are people who read, have access to, or knowledge of this blog that didn't know the news yet, so I couldn't post it here. It has now been made official so it can be announced!!

After the birth of our third child I will not be returning to my current place of employment! I have mixed emotions about this decision mainly because I really do enjoy my job (most days). Shelby will begin Kindergarten shortly before the baby is due. She will have to be taken to school and picked up from school. School will start after I begin my work day and end before I clock out, so I would have to shorten my hours just to be able to get her to and from school. Tyler will still attend the pre-school/daycare in which he is currently enrolled. I would not want to put my newborn in a daycare facility. I love the place where my kids have gone but they didn't start until they were old enough to talk so that they could keep me informed if anything happened that was out of the ordinary. I just wouldn't feel right putting a teeny tiny baby there. I understand that there are situations where parents have no other choice. My mother in law would have gladly kept the new one (and Tyler as well) so this would mean two, or possibly three stops every morning and every afternoon. With the skyrocketing gas prices, I don't know if I would even be coming out ahead! Mainly the reason I have worked for the last few years is for health insurance. My husband owns his own plumbing business. He has paid someone to do his clerical work in the past. As of right now there is no one filling that position. That is part of my job at my current employer. In weighing the costs of each we will come out ahead if I do his clerical work for him. I will have a lot more at stake when making decisions than an hourly secretary would because the continued success of his business will keep food on our table and a roof over our heads.

Taking all of the above factors into consideration it was still a very hard decision. I work for a family owned and operated business and I love the people that I work with. My boss is a good friend and he has always treated me right. He is already down one person and I knew that leaving would put him in a greater bind, but he understood that it was the best decision for me personally and the well being of my family. So, in the end it is going to be great for our family.

There are prospects for my position. We hope to get someone in at the begining of August so that I can train them for a few weeks before my final departure. Look for future posts on this subject to find out more. I think it's going to be exciting too, considering the prospects. That's all I'm sayin'...my lips are sealed. *grin*

It sounds to me like you thought this out very, very carefully before you made your decision and I'm sure that it's going to work out to be the best not only for you but your whole family.

Best of luck in the new endeavor once you get to it!

Big changes, but good ones it sounds like! I know how hard it is to leave a workplace you like, no matter the reason. Good luck and I hope that everything works out well. :)

My mom and dad worked together for 30 years and never even had a spat! It can be done...
Your children will be happy, too.

Congratulations on the announcement. I came to the same conclusion for myself and our family 10 years ago and while it's not the easiest of transitions, I don't regret one minute of it! Time really flies by and they're only young once.

I can't bear to send mine to daycare either. The last child care provider I had was spanking my son, and you're right, babies can't tell you whats going on.

It sounds like it was a good decision for your family. I had the same feelings about sending Princess to a daycare when she was a little baby. I just couldn't do it, although I understand those who have no choice.

Sounds like a win! Win situation to me. If he would be paying someone else to job you can do, that's a great idea.

I will caution you about one thing, Tisha... it's not always easy to work with someone AND go home with them. Can you two stand THAT much together time? Can you leave the stress of the work environment at work? It is an important consideration. I know many couples who work together that wish they didn't and not so many who work together and love it.

Of course, I wish you the very best and hope it's perfect for you.

And ROFLMAO about Miss Bee's comment!

I found you through a google blog alert, in case you're wondering where I came from. ;)

Anyway, I am a work-at-home mom and I wanted to congratulate you as well as wish you the best of luck with your new endeavors after the birth of your baby! It sounds like you have made a very secure plan and I hope it goes off as smoothly as the way it sounds it will.

Congratulations!

You're coming over to the dark side of us stay-at-home/work-at-home moms. Muwahahaha. ha. ha.

But, seriously. It is a difficult decision. For most people. Okay, it wasn't for me because I worked at Sprint and hated all of them and the train they rode in on. . . you know what, maybe I should just stop commenting. :-)
