Looking forward to tomorrow and some events of last evening...

Tomorrow is the BIG day! Shelby finally gets to go see High School Musical! I thought about calling a real estate agent earlier in the week to see about getting a second house to move her to because she's been so excited! Honestly I'm pretty excited myself. She is sleeping in curlers tonight because she wants her hair to be "curly" tomorrow for the big production. She just laid down. I told her she had to go to sleep and get rested up because she'll be so excited tomorrow she'll need lots of rest tonight. There was no argument from her. So, here I sit on the couch with my lap top and you, my blogging friends. I'm going to do a bit of blog hopping and then get rested up myself.

Last night an odd thing happened. Shelby woke up in the middle of the night talking about her nose and how "stuff was coming out like water". Brien got up with her and hey were in the bathroom which is right beside Tyler's room (and the baby monitor). I heard Brien in a panicked voice yell "Tisha come here now"! I ran to the restroom to see her face covered in blood. Shelby's nose had been bleeding and he could not get it to stop. I told her to get me a wet washcloth so I could get her cleaned up. I grabbed some tissue and began to roll it up and stuck the end of it in her nose. She didn't care too much for this idea, but it stopped the blood flow fairly quickly. I must admit that there was quite a bit of blood. I began to feel a bit light headed. I thought I was going to pass out. Now, I've never been one to get queasy at the sight of blood. I don't think this was the problem. I had a stuffy nose all day yesterday so last night I took some cold medicine. The trouble is that the medicine I took was not what I usually take. The dosage to what I normally take is 2 pills. So, I took two of these pills but the dosage was one pill. It had knocked pretty much knocked me on my butt! Anyhow, I finally got the blood to stop and she got a bit choked up due to the blood rolling to the back of her throat. She coughed and guess what she coughed up?! Yup, a bit of blood. By this time hubby was searching for his shoes. He was going to take her to the ER for a bloody nose. I told him that his panicked approach was not helping the cause because that just made her more upset to know that he was scared/worried. If I had not been home, he'd have been on his way to the ER by this time!! Once we got her calmed down and the blood stopped hubby sent me to bed. He said he knew he wouldn't be able to sleep the rest of the night because he was worried about her. She was fine this morning, though. I'm still stuffy. I am going to go take some cold medicine again tonight, but I will be sure to check the dosage of whatever I take tonight!!

Oh, poor Shelby! You wouldn't believe how many people actually call 911 for bloody noses, though, so Brien isn't alone in his panicking. Hope everything is okay now!

Don't put things in the nose. Take your fingers and pinch the bottom of the nose by the upper lip. That will cut the flow of blood to the nose. If it's just bleeding from one side you can just apply the pressure to that side.

Either way bloody noses are a pain in the butt.

When I used to get bloody noses, my mom would put me on the couch with my head back. After a couple of times of this, and an episode of GI Joe, where they told the kids to put their heads forward.. I convinced her to let me handle them myself. I always tip my head forward, and not just because of GI Joe, but because I can't stand the thought of swallowing all the blood that has gone down the back of my throat. ugh.

Ah yes, the joys of parenting. Having two boys, my wife and I are very familiar with middle of the night wake up calls along with some type of body fluid comming out.

Glad all is well again.

Wow, it pretty scary when you have that first nose-bleed. I'm glad everything worked out fine. You two don't get much sleep at night do you. It's tough raising little ones. I so remember. Have a great day. Maybe a nap is in order? :)

Bloody noses can be scary. I've only had a couple, and never the spontaneous ones.
