Conversations with Shelby
Shelby: "Mommy, we talked about Christmas today at school."
Me: "You did, that's cool. So, what did you guys talk about?"
Shelby: "**Insert child's name** doesn't believe in Christmas and we talked about no all people believing in Christmas or in God. "
Me: *Gulp and then begin to panic*...long silence...thinking what do I say to this?!
Responds, "Well, that's true baby some people don't believe in God. But, we do. We have to respect what other people believe even if it's different than us."
Shelby: "Do you believe in God?"
Me: "Of course I do. If there was no a God, how did we get here?"
Shelby: "From our Moms."
Me: "Ummm...yes, but God created a mom a long long time ago."
Shelby: "Yeah, probably so. Then those people killed baby Jesus. I wish they wouldn't have killed baby Jesus, mommy. He was just a baby."
Oh, I know...the conversations are only going to get harder tougher right?!

yes...the conversations get more difficult...we even had a few I didn't WANT to answer....smile.
Oh, yes, the conversations get even "better!" But aren't the young ones inquisitive and more observant than maybe we give them credit for?
*sniff!*
Did you tell her he was no longer a baby when he was killed? :) She is a smart one, that Shelby! Sounds like you avoided a Santa discussion..
My least favorite so far is the conversations about death.
Then try explaining why there is a Santa if xmas is about Jesus.... it goes on and on...

Um, yeah, they don't get any easier.
Sigh.
Just you wait... wait till she's about, oh say, ummmm... 12! Geez Louise! ;-)
Have a great weekend sweetie. Oh and thanks for the Elfin fun... I posted mine today. Simply hilarious!
SMOOCHES~
Yep, it's just going to get harder as it goes but the best advice I can give you is to always be honest with Shelby and never talk down to her thinking that she won't understand what you're saying - kids understand so much more than we know!
Good luck!!
Children these days are getting smarter and smarter. My son also asks so many questions and sometimes I just can't answer them all.
