It's Started!

Yup, it's started! Shelby is only in Pre-School. Today when I picked her up she was a bit upset. She said that she wanted an invitation. I asked her what she meant and she said that she wanted an invitation to (insert boy's name) party. He brought invitations to the other kids and she didn't get one. Gosh, it just breaks your heart but what do you say in that situation?! I guess they weren't handed out indiscreetly. Usually they are put in the children's "buckets" where the parents will pick them up at the end of the day. But, I guess it wasn't done that way this time. I felt bad for her. I know how it is to be "not picked" or "picked last". So, it's a tough thing to see your kids experience. Especially since this kid's family are "well to do" people in town. They own several businesses and I could probably point out the kids that were invited. I just told her that his party was probably while we were out of town anyhow so we couldn't go. She seemed okay with that answer. :)

Awwww. My heart goes out to her. At my son's school they have a policy that unless you are to invite the whole class you can not had out invites at school. They must be mailed. I liked that idea and it worked pretty well until one person rubbed it into my son that he wasn't invited to so-in-sos party and he was. Oh well. Kids will be kids and they will bounce back much quicker than we can. I like how you handled it and she'll be fine.

Bless her heart! Some of life's lessons are tough, aren't they?

Oh that's hard! I think you handled it well though. Our school doesn't let you hand out invitations at school unless the whole class is invited either. And with a class of 20+ kids, that gets hard to manage (and expensive!). We compromised one year by inviting all of the girls to Abby's party - figured that the boys probably wouldn't be interested in a My Little Pony party anyway. ;)

People always say kids will be kids, but I think they learn a lot of that stuff from their parents. You handled that very well. Your daughter will learn to be more diplomatic in her approach to inviting friends.
