New Arkansas Law
I'm sure by now you all have heard that Arkansas law makers screwed up in a new bill. I knew that they were trying to change the law and when I read what happened I thought it was my duty as an Arkansan (please don't hold that against me) to post this. This story comes to us via USA Today.
It's now legal for children to wed in Arkansas. All it took was one extra "not" in a bill that was supposed to set a minimum age for marriage.
The legislation "authorized women 'not pregnant' to obtain parental consent to marry. That would remove from Arkansas law any minimum marriage age, allowing even infants to marry if their parents OK it," according to the Arkansas Democrat Gazette.
The paper says lawmakers are now debating whether they can make a simple "technical" correction to the bill or whether they'll have to draft and pass a new version without the extra "not."
My question is...do they NOT allow proof readers in the house?! How many people do you think read this and did NOT notice the NOT. These people are deciding our fate? God, are we in trouble?!

I had heard this.
You gotta love Arkansas politicians. Or not.
take care :)
But it's Arkansas...most of those legislators probably married their thirteen year old cousins anyway.

I wonder if there is a provision in state constitutions that allows corrections for obvious editing mistakes.
If there isn't, maybe there should be.
Oh my gracious...lol
I will not hold being an Arkansan aganst you.I grew up in the Ozarks and loved it!! :-)
One has to wonder about the intelligence of the legislators who would pass this piece of crap legislation, and then require a special session to rescind or revise it.
Sheesh.
OMG! Thats scary, they need to get their heads together & make some changes pretty soon!
That is funny: NOT
:)
