You have GOT to be kidding me!?!?

I came across this link today and trust me, you're not going to believe this story. A Kindergartner was arrested and charged with a felony and two misdemeanors for throwing a temper tantrum at school on March 28th!

"When there is an outburst of violence," Police Chief Frank Mercurio
told a local news station, "we have a duty to protect and make that school
a safe environment for the students, staff and faculty.
That's why, at this point, the person was arrested regardless what the age."

Okay, I just gotta say that this really makes me angry. Why were such extreme measures taken in this situation!? Here we have kids shooting up schools and they arrest a kindergartner for throwing a fit?! What kind of world are we living in, people? It's a sad day...

While the police probably over reacted, I saw the video of this tiny terror. She was screaming obscenities, tearing things off walls, biting, kicking and scratching. There were several school personnel as well as the police. They were all trying to subdue her without injuring her and handcuffing was probably the minimal they could have done under the circumstances.

A later interview with the mother actually left no doubt where this babe learned her winning ways.

Jiminy Christmas! Sounds like the child needs a therapist, not a jail cell.

We are living in an politically correct over reactive world. That's what. It's a darn shame too, because there are lots of groups taking advantage of these weaknesses.

Maybe this was an over-reaction, but how about we teach children some appropriate public behavior.

As a K teacher myself, I've got to say that sounds very crazy. I do have a student who I'm actually afraid will beat me up (or try to). But I would say get her to counseling, not to jail. That will just make it worse, in my opinion.
