My Sister is A Wiener, errr...ummm...I mean Winner!!!

I helped my niece enter her mom, my sister in a contest from the local news station, Today's THV - local CBS affiliate. The winner was chosen this morning and out of hundreds of entrants, Mandy's picture was picked to be the winner.

Photobucket
I took this photo last November when our daughters shared their birthday parties together at the skating rink. Mandy was helping Emily, my 2 year old go under the limbo stick. Keep in mind that neither of them had on skates! She did fall on her face, she hit her eye on the floor, but thankfully she wasn't hurt too bad. In fact, this photo was taken moments after the "crash".  I thought that since the contest was celebrating Mother's Day, it is only fair to post a photo of my mom.  Happy Mother's Day to you, sister.  Congrats!  Happy Mother's Day to you and Mom, I love you and hope you have a great day as well.

Christian In The House

Sunday morning's church service at Crosby Baptist Church kicked off with a special from Southern Grace featuring Tisha Black (me), Aaron Sanders, Christy Womble, and Randy Morris!  This was recorded by my husband with my Iphone, so it's not the greatest quality but most definitely the most fun I have had singing a special in a while.  I LOVE this song.  I hope you can enjoy it as well.

Dancing With The Blacks

My children love the fine arts. They all, especially the girls, love to sing. When it comes to dancing, we love to watch shows like Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance. It was no surprise to see my two oldest children mocking the contestants of DWTS this week. Shelby, the oldest even told her brother to "hold your arm straight...ALWAYS hold your arm straight"! So, obviously they pay very close attention to the technique. Emily on the other hand was not so into dancing on this night. She is in the full swing of "Terrible Twos" and when things don't go quite her way, she tends to be a little dramatic. So, you can hear her in the background of the clip above crying out because she is trying to lay down and can't quite get her blanket on her feet like she wanted. Believe me, that is a whole 'nother blog post!!

Happy Birthday Shelby!

The ENTIRE 2nd grade sang Happy Birthday to Shelby at lunch time on her birthday (last Monday). I wanted to post it here for your viewing pleasure.

What Mother's Do

I came across this today and I wanted to post it here.  I have always enjoyed Steve Hartman's stories.  Being a mother, this one really tugged at my heart strings.  I think that as humans, we tend to overlook the needs of others more often than we care to admit.  But, as a Mom if I see a child hurting or in need no matter if they are my own or not I hurt as well.  Why do animals show so much compassion for one another?  This instinct is so deeply embedded into a mother's soul that it's just "what we do".  As you enjoy what these "mothers" do, I am going to go enjoy what I do and get the house cleaned up while the kiddos are gone to school!  ;)

The Last Song on DVD and Blu-Ray

PhotobucketAvailable today on Blu-ray™ Hi-Def Combo Pack and DVD from Touchstone Home
Entertainment: The Last Song starring Disney's very own Miley Cyrus, A/K/A Hannah Montana and Greg Kinnear (Oscar®
nominee, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, As Good As It Gets, 1997, Little Miss Sunshine, You've Got Mail). If you're raising a teenage daughter, knows someone who is raising a teenage daughter, or face raising a teenage daughter in your future I would highly recommend this one! It is an emotional roller coaster. As the movie begins, Miley's character Ronnie is a complete and total spoiled brat who back talks her father and is mean to just about every single person she comes across. She's harsh and rude. As events unfold in the movie we learn why she has hardened her heart just as it begins to soften up. It is a great "coming of age" movie, to be very cliche. It will probably make you cry...well, it made ME cry. It is an awesome movie. I have not read the book, so before you ask me how different it was, I cannot say. The screen play was written by best selling novelist and screen writer Nicolas Sparks who also wrote The Notebook!

Bonus Features for The Last Song:

incorporated into feel and theme of the music video.

Emily Gets Her Groove On

All of my kids love to dance. I must admit they get it honestly. I have always loved to get my groove on. I love music in general. I love to sing and dance. I may not be that great at either, but when the music starts I just can't sit still. Especially if it's something with a great beat. Emily will shake her little booty no matter what comes on. I have tried several times to get her on video to post, but once she sees a camera she runs over and starts yelling "cheese". (She actually does this once in the video) My video camera was dead, so I used my little digital camera to capture this. It's not the greatest quality, but you get the point!

Put your laptop down, or scoot your desk chair back, stand up and get your groove on with little Emily and the Black Eyed Peas!

Waving goodbye and saying hello...

For My Best Friend:
My best friend in the whole wide world moved away when we were 12 years old. Amazingly enough we have remained best friends throughout the years. It wasn't easy when we were younger, before internet. We would record cassette tapes (remember those) to one another telling about our lives, school, parents, siblings, etc. By the time it would reach the other one, most of that was different but I loved getting cassette tapes from my best friend. Hearing her voice was the best thing ever.

We both come from backgrounds that have made us strong women. They weren't easy, but I think that it has made our bond grow stronger between one another because we know so much about each other and why we are the women we are today.

I love Becca more than words can explain. I miss her so much every day. We e-mail each other daily but it's just not the same. I wish so much that she were here to see my little Emily do the cute things that she is starting to do. I wish that she could be here next month when Shelby has her first school program, I wish that she could hear Tyler be his silly self on a daily basis. But, most of all I wish that she could be with me. I wish that I could call her up and make a Saturday breakfast or Sunday brunch date with her...and not have to hope on a plane to do it.

I miss you so much, Becca! I hope you know how much you mean to me and how important you are in my life. Even though we had to say goodbye when we were 12, we've always remembered how wonderful it is to say hello again! :)

Doctors, Hiccups, and the Remote Control

I went to the doctor today.  I did get one piece of good news.  I've lost 4 lbs since my last visit.  He asked what was going on and I told him that I didn't know why and I assured him that I was still eating well.  For instance, last night right before bed I couldn't decide on cookies and milk or pudding and milk so I had all three.  Today after the visit I also had some of Sonic's new fried ice cream.  It wasn't bad but not nearly as good as I had craved it to be either.  I'm sure by the time I made it to the bottom I found that extra four pounds, don't ya think?!  Maybe I should get some deep fried pickles tomorrow just to be sure.

I have not made any more progress toward delivery.  I am still the same as I was last week when I visited so we're scheduled for another office visit next Thursday which just so happens to be her "due date".  My doctor informed me today that I should remember that her due date is not a deadline just a projected time frame that is subject to change.  *LOL*  Thanks, Doc but remember this is #3 for me so my hopes are NOT up, but if the weather gets back up in the 100+ temps next week we'll be talking about inducing this little "projected time frame".  :)

Tonight as I was blog hopping the baby girl got the hiccups and I tried to get good video of it by putting the remote control on my belly.  I thought I would post it here and let you see for yourself that fetuses really do get them.  It is the strangest feeling when she has them and obviously it makes her very uncomfortable as well. Take a look:  (there is some sound, hubby was watching television)

I had a hard time getting a good angle on the remote from my view so Brien grabbed the camera and began to film.  By this time her hiccups had subsided and now she was angry that this strange object had invaded her space.  She kicked the remote control off my belly right before he began to film.  Take a watch at what happens next:

The Mommy Song

Have you seen this one? This is too funny. This one's for my fellow "mommy blogers"!
