Happy 7th Birthday Tyler

Tyler Matthew Black
Born August 9, 2005 @ 10:58am
8lbs 2oz 20 3/4" long

7 years ago on this very day, my husband and I were on our way to the hospital "discussing" what we were going to name our first (and only) little boy. I liked the name Tyler Matthew. He preferred Matthew Tyler. I have a long and difficult to spell and pronounce (THANKS MOM!!) name, Latichia. So, I didn't want my son to have the same difficulty I did in school. After laboring 5 hours and having the baby before the epidural could kick in, when the little guy was born everyone looked at us as to what they were to call him. My wonderful husband proclaimed, Tyler Matthew. Upon this proclamation, I asked why he changed his mind? He insisted that since I went through all of that work to get him here, the least he could do was let me choose the name. I sure do love that man. I love both of my men.

Happy 7th birthday, Tyler Matthew.
Mommy and daddy love you!!!

Severe Weather in Central Arkansas

Living in central Arkansas, there are a few things you can be sure of and one of them is the weather.  Tornadoes will occur in the springtime.  One thing you can never count on is when and where.  We knew we had a severe risk of bad weather yesterday.  We rushed through dinner and baths so that we could be prepared for the worst while we prayed for the best.  I have learned that my middle child, who is now five has my nervous tenancies about storms.  Shelby, the oldest who is now 8 is a lot like her dad.  She's pretty laid back and usually falls asleep once we seek shelter in the hallway.  The youngest just thought we were playing games as we gathered pillows, blankets, flashlights, cell phones, and the likes.

PhotobucketAs our favorite weather man was warning folks in our town to turn up our television and seek shelter in a safe place I know my son could sense the nervousness in his mom even though I try to hide it.  I don't usually do a very good job of it!  He was nervous as well.

Once we were safe in the hallway listening to the live coverage, my son asked if we could pray.  Praying seems to calm him, and it was a great distraction from the heavy rain and wind that was beginning to fall outside.  After we prayed, he said, "Mom, if you die in the storm, I just want to die with you.  I couldn't live without you!"

Praise the Lord that the storms went all around us (once again!).  Prayer is powerful not only to calm nerves, but to calm storms as well.  There were many in the state that were not so lucky.  Our prayers are going out to those around the state who have lost homes, property, and lives.  Thank you so much for all of the great weather coverage from the local news stations, and Facebook Friends who kept us up to date on the weather around the state.  If you have a spare minute, please say a prayer for those who were affected by severe weather/tornadoes in our state and that the threat that we have today will diminish!

My Little Guy

Yesterday afternoon when we got home after a long HOT, humid Arkansas summer we decided we'd go for a swim. Shelby, Tyler, and I hopped in the pool. They played for a while as I vacuumed the bottom of the pool. We swam for about an hour and a half and the kids were ready to get out. I put some chemicals in the pool and cleaned out the filter as the kids played nearby in on their swing set the back yard.

Tyler informed me as I was finishing up that he was ready to go inside because mosquitoes were biting him. We came inside and they got in the bath tub while I changed out of my swim suit. Tyler was saying that his mosquito bite was hurting and Shelby informed him that it was red.

I looked down at his leg to discover that this poor child did not have a mosquito bite, but had been stung by a red wasp! He NEVER did cry. I could not believe this. He is such a tough, brave little boy. I am 30 years old and usually when I get stung by one of those things I go crazy and there are tears shed. They hurt so bad! For this 2.5 year old little guy to not even whimper made me so proud of him. I quickly washed him up because I figured the hot water didn't make it feel any better. He got out and it swelled a bit, but thankfully he was okay and had no side effects from it.

What a brave little one!
