Snow Day...AGAIN!!!

I woke up this morning to hubby cooking breakfast! He went to work early this morning, but ended up calling it a day very early on because we started getting snow. It came down very quickly and immediately it started sticking to the roads. Emily and I had gotten up when he did, but we laid back down and fell asleep watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on Disney.

Needless to say we are all snowed in today. As it stands, the weather guys are predicting we may be snowed in for a few days. In the northern part of the state of Arkansas, there is already a foot of snow. Now, that's not much to you northerners, but down here in the south, that is a lot of snow! We're having a lazy day in our pajamas watching movies. I made the mistake of letting my hubby pick out movies yesterday, so he came home with five movies...all action flicks! We're watching S.A.L.T right now, followed by the A-Team.

Emily's trip to the doctor yesterday resulted in an ear infection. She's on a ten day antibiotic, so hopefully she'll feel better quickly. Thanks to those of you with kind words and prayers for "the boss".

Snow in Arkansas?!?!

We are working on day 3 of being "snowed in". On day one we really enjoyed watching the snow fall. It was fun for the kids to watch it fall and anticipate how much we would actually get since mostly they have just seen a light dusting on the ground. We woke up Monday morning and got our snow gear on and went outside to make a snow man. Emily decided very quickly that she did not like to be cold, so I brought her in and got her down for a nap. After she was down, I brought the baby monitor back out and we worked on finishing up the snowman. We ended up with one small snowman. It was the size of Shelby. She decorated it up to look like her. Then we had a "Mommy" snowman. It was a little taller than the real mommy - me! Lastly we were going to make a "Daddy" snowman, but he toppled down as he was being stacked. Since he was the last snowman, we were too tired to bother with reassembling him. So, he stayed toppled on the ground. The snow continued to come down in what looked like hand fulls at times. I'd never seen so much snow fall at once. We ended up with 8.5". I've lived in central Arkansas most of my life and we just don't get that kind of snow here. It was fun to watch fall and nice to play with the kids, but I gotta tell ya, I'm ready to say bye-bye to the snow!

On Tuesday, the fun really began as hubby rigged up a sled for the kids to pull behind the four wheeler. He used a wheelbarrow. This was a brilliant idea. It was just big enough for them to fit in comfortably and they had no troubles hanging on or staying in. We rode at our house for a while and then decided to go out to my in-law's house who have a larger (tree-less) front yard. We were joined by more kids there, five to be exact along with six more adults. A good time was had by all and memories were made that I don't think will soon be forgotten. Once the sledding "track" was packed down, it became very slick and was way more fun for the kids. The make shift sled would slip and slide with barely a tug from the four wheeler. I am not sure who had more fun, the adults or the children! It was the most fun we've ever had with snow, I can promise you that. I have uploaded quite a few pictures to Facebook, for those of you who are friends with me there. I have also put some video on YouTube. This is my husband being pulled by his brother. Brien had just pulled his brother, you see and made sure to pull him fast enough to make him fall out so it was time for some brotherly revenge! Whirlwind Weekend and Weigh In Results

What a whirlwind of a weekend. Lots of time was spent with family, extended family, and friends.

We woke up this morning to more white stuff on the ground. I know our 4 inches isn't much to my B/F/F Becca's 30+ in Baltimore but it was enough to shut down the school for the day. So, pray for my sanity as I'm "snowed in" with the kiddos again. Maybe we should consider looking at some Fort Wayne real estate to get away from Snowy Arkansas! *LOL

I had my Monday morning weigh in this morning with more good results. Since Monday, January 4, 2010 I have lost ten pounds! I am very proud of my accomplishment. When I weighed in this morning, I was at the weight I recorded the last day I weighed in when I was dieting back in the summer. It's been a slow process, but I really like doing Weight Watchers more than following the low carb lifestyle. The weight doesn't come off as quickly, but I feel like there are more food choices with the Weight Watchers plan and it's easier to feed my entire family by doing a plan like this. Let it Melt, Let it Melt, Let it Melt

On Thursday, we began the watch for winter weather. In Arkansas we were under a "Winter Weather Advisory". My first grader told me that her teacher asked them to pray for snow. All of the prayers must have worked because we were snowed in on Friday. Actually the snow didn't start until late in the afternoon, but the ice was predicted to come before the snow and it was quite a doozy. I am sure that the school personnel was cautious as they did not want children to get to school and not be able to get from school. The kids were super excited when the snow came. They could not wait to get outside! We did gather up enough snow this time to make some snow cream also since we forgot last time.

We had been outside all of 15 minutes when they decided that they were ready to come in. I made them gather in front of the woodpile for one last shot. This is how it came out:

Yes, Emily has socks on her feet. We could not find her hat and gloves and there just was not enough time to look for them. They had to get outside immediately! They were just as eager to get inside and drink some hot chocolate! They thought that was the deal of the day, as we're southerners and we're just not accustomed to this cold weather and SNOW!

Home With The Kids or Office With the Work??? Hmmm...

This was Oscar the weiner dog playing in the snow on Sunday. We didn't get much that day, but both the kids and the pup enjoyed being outside and running around. Being cooped up in the house for days tends to get us all a bit on edge. Although I must admit that although at times I was ready to pull my hair out after being cooped up for 4 days with the kiddos, it was nice not to have to worry about things like payroll, business insurance, or accounts payable. By the time the four day, turned five mini-vacation came to an end I was more than happy to return to the office. Yes, I do love my children, but so do their teachers. ;)

We have Snow

Emily has been sick this weekend. I suspect she's got Bronchitis or possibly RSV again. We shall visit the pediatrician tomorrow hopefully. She's not been sleeping which means that her mommy (that's me!!) hasn't either. Needless to say I forgot to prepare the coffee pot for it's timely morning brew. As I added the coffee and water to the machine I groggily looked out the kitchen window and much to my surprise I noticed a white coating on the ground! It had snowed in the night and was continuing to snow. The kids were very excited and wanted to get dressed and go play outside. We allowed them to do just that. Emily wasn't out as long as Tyler and Shelby. She wasn't as impressed as they were with the snow and we didn't want to have her out in the elements any longer than needed. We got a light coating covering the ground and was so wet you couldn't make snowballs with it, but we can say it snowed and we did get a few pictures. It continues to snow now, so I am not sure what the roads will be like in the morning. I am not sure that this working momma can handle another day cooped up inside with the family. I'm ready to go back to work!!!

Let it Snow...

I've been watching the national news seeing all of my friends up north getting pounded with snow. Here in the south, it's just downright cold. Last week on the weather they said we might get some rain/sleet or snow for Christmas. But we know how that is, right??? We will get some rain, it will be very cold, then it will start to sleet and then there may be some snow mixed in. By the time it is all said and done we might have an inch of snow on top of four inches of ice. Trees will snap under the weight falling into power lines knocking thousands out of power. It will take a day or two for the ice to melt and the aftermath will be lots of downed trees and many cars stuck in ditches. What is it about snow and ice that makes people think that they need to get out and drive?

I'm sending lots of chicken soup thoughts to my snowed in friends in the North as I sit here cuddled up under my snuggi (it's a blanket with arms) sipping coffee with French Vanilla creamer.

Five more days 'till Christmas, ya'll!!!

A View From My Window

It's SNOWING!!!
The temperatures Saturday and Sunday were in the 70s here in east-central Arkansas. We've got ~~daises~~ (ooops) daffodils in bloom. This snow is NOT a good thing for them. The only saving grace I can see in this whole ordeal is that maybe this will be the final hurah for the winter. Winter is making way for Spring. We're keeping our fingers crossed. I know that I am not the only one in the blogosphere that is looking forward to Spring, right?! Let's get this cold stuff outta here I'm ready to go swimming and fishing!
