Saturday Photo Hunt - Bad Hair

My 57th
This Week's Theme: Bad Hair
SPH Headquarters ~ The Other 56

She is going to kill me for posting this picture for the world to see, I just know it. Well, maybe I'll get a free pass this time since I'm still carrying her niece but if you guys don't hear from me after this baby is born, you'll need to look her up! This is my sister and I from way back in the day. I don't know why in the world we had hair cuts like this (well, I think there's a story about a grandma cutting it while she had us, but I'm not sure). Anyhow, this is some truly BAD hair, here. Needless to say, we both have way better dos now. In fact, her hair is awesome. Love ya sis! Actually I don't know what's worse...the bad hair or the bad shirts, can you see my rainbow belt?! Gasp!!

My BIG little girl!

Yesterday was Shelby's first day of "summer school". She had her Kindergarten screening a couple of weeks ago and she scored a bit lower on her test than they like for them to. I spoke to the teachers at school and they said that they felt like her timid personality was holding her back a bit from answering some of the questions that she probably knew but might have been a bit unsure of. They felt it best to send her to summer school so that she can learn the procedures of school, the teachers, etc. It was a hard pill for me to swallow considering that at her daycare I have always been told that she was in the top of her class. Her daycare teachers were very shocked to hear this news as well. Shelby is a model student in class. She has never been in the slightest bit of trouble and always completes the tasks she is given. Her biggest downfall is that she has a very shy and reserved personality. She does get this from me, of course. I remember the nervousness and butterflies I would get before each new school year. It is mortifying to me to think of it all over again. I just wish I didn't have to put her through it! With all of that being said, I think that not sending her would only be holding her back from being the best she can be in Kindergarten. So, onward march I suppose!

They had open house Monday night at the school. We attended and when we got there she was already crying and thinking of every excuse to get out of attending: tummy ache, her head hurt, her shoulders hurt, she thought she was going to be sick, etc, etc. Needless to say by the time we left she was super excited for today to come! She loved her teacher who was very nice. She thought the classroom was very "cool". She got to see where she was going to sit (at the front of the class, by the teacher). We took her and let her pick out a couple of new "school outfits" before we headed home as well as a new backpack.

This morning when I woke her up to get ready, she popped right out of bed. I said, "Shelby, it's time to get up." She responded with, "Time for the Kindergartener to get out of bed!" She was grinning from ear to ear. She picked out which outfit she wanted to wear and she was ready to roll.

Due to the fact that I have one of the very few admin jobs in my company it's hard for me to adhere to the summer school schedule of 8:45-2:00. I informed my boss yesterday that I would be late today and I went with Brien to take her on her first day. We sat with her while she ate breakfast and then when we got ready to leave as the teacher was getting ready to take the children to their class she smiled as we kissed her goodbye. Yes, I said she smiled. You could tell in her face that she was a bit nervous but she made out like a pro and she was excited and looking forward to the day! I am so proud of my little girl that I can hardly contain myself. She did a lot better today than I had ever anticipated. I think that the fact that I am an expecting mommy (HELLO HORMONES!!!) and I didn't cry is saying a lot for me.

It's going to be a fun month of summer school for her and she is going to be prepared for the year ahead at summer's end, so all is well that ends well.

Beware of Pockets

Do you check your pockets? Well, let me rephrase that. Do you check the pockets of the pants that you wash? I got ready to wash Tyler's (my two year old son) shorts yesterday and they were making a rattling noise so I slowly, with a hint of fear reached my hands down into his pocket to find what you see pictured here. There was quite the collection of rocks and sticks from the daycare playground. I think he's bringing the playground home slowly, but surely! I've yet to find anything that breathes in his pockets, and I'm hoping that I never do, but I know the day will come. Maybe he'll find a gold anklet some day?!

Shelby's Milestone

Shelby informed me on Saturday that she had a loose tooth. More importantly this was her FIRST loose tooth. I was pretty excited about it, but it wasn't that big of a deal to her. Most of her "friends" had already lost teeth so she knew all about it. *rolls eyes* Her dad tried to talk her into pulling her tooth all weekend. She refused to let us even touch it. I did manage to get her to open wide enough to snap this shot:When I got to daycare to pick her up yesterday the director came to me and informed me that she had pulled Shelby's tooth!!! WHAT?! I told her that Shelby's dad was NOT going to be happy b/c he'd been trying to pull it and she wouldn't let him. She was scared that I was serious. Obviously I was joking but it is funny how our children will trust other people before they will trust us! When I got to her classroom she showed me her tooth as well as the gaping hole it left in her mouth:I informed her that she got to put the tooth under her pillow tonight and the tooth fairy would come and bring her some money. She was very excited at this concept. We got her to go to bed without any fuss last night and she was quickly fast asleep. She woke up this morning to find five $1 bills under her princess pillow. She was excited as she counted out the dollars. Now I know this is the part where you say, "WOW, $5 maybe I should pull out my teeth to pay for gas back and forth to work." I have one word to explain my train of thought on this one, inflation! What can you buy with a buck? Also, that first tooth is special. She showed me the money:Then she was looking under her pillow again. She asked, "Where's my tooth?" Ummm...well, errr, the tooth fairy kept it. *blink*
"Why did she keep my tooth?"
"Because she collects them in exchange for money."
"Well, what does she do with them, why would she want teeth?"
...by this time I am thinking to myself, did I ask my mom this many questions about getting money under my pillow?! I think NOT! So, I quickly nipped the 21 question game in the bud by asking what she wanted to buy with her money. That did the trick, she was spouting off ideas all morning. She was still full of ideas by the time I picked her up from daycare this afternoon! The trouble is that all of her ideas were way more expensive than five bucks!!!

Redneck Mansion

I've been thinking of buying a mansion.
The Realtor is giving us a heck of a deal on this place
since it has "mother-in-law quarters".

What do ya think?

Memories

On the way home from school Shelby started saying that she wanted a coke and peanuts. It took my by surprise that she would ask for this, but it sounded like a great idea. We stopped by the grocery store on our way home and were lucky enough to find a 6 pack of glass bottled Coca-Cola and some 2 for $1 peanuts. I snapped a few photos while they enjoyed their treat! I hope you can enjoy this trip down memory lane.

OUCH!

Do not adjust your browsers settings, this photo is actually RED! That is my poor body. I have tortured it. I am miserable. I left work early to shed my clothes.
I took a cool shower and now I am actually (ssshhhhh)
blogging in the nude b/c I am so miserable.
It actually hurts to sit on my butt. :(
I hope that hubby can get away from work in time to go get the kiddos so
I don't have to re-dress. If not, pray for me ya'll 'cause I am in such agonizing pain!!!

Zoo Pictures

As promised, here is a slide show of photos from our trip to the Memphis zoo. If you live anywhere near this awesome place, I would highly recommend a trip. It's a great place to take the kids. The weather wasn't perfect for our trip, it was hot and humid, but overall we had a pretty good time and I can't wait to plan another time to go (maybe when the weather cools a bit)!

That's Hot!

In my best Paris Hilton Voice..."That's Hot"! I took this photo today when I got in my truck and felt the skin melting from my bones. This is the thermometer in my truck. It's hot in Arkansas ya'll!! The bad part about it is that darn humidity. Seems like it's about 115 with the heat index. Bleck...

Sugar Babies!

Cool Slideshows!

I was going to post this because I got this in an e-mail saying they were made of sugar. I thought it was amazing, so I did some research because I wanted to find out who the talent was behind the sugar. It turns out that they are not made of sugar, but they are 2-5 inch sculptures made of Prosculpt polymer clay and mohair. The talented Camille Allen is the talent behind these beautifully lifelike sculptures. What a creative genius!
