The Life of a CrAzY Working Mom...
NOAA weather radio in conjunction with a three (almost 4!!!) year old who is terrified of storms kept my attention for a couple of hours in the wee morning. As the weather radio came on with it's very loud and annoying weather alert warning, I heard a sobbing Tyler in the background. This poor little guy, along with Oscar the wiener dog are completely petrified when storms roll in. I must admit that it is mostly my fault. We had a pretty bad scare when Tyler was young and had to hide out because there was a tornado just down the road from us. Thankfully that time we were spared and only had some limbs down in the yard. Now every time it rains he's afraid it is a tornado.
We finally went to sleep around 4:30. Apparently sometime after that the NOAA radio was finally silent and I fell back to sleep only to be awakened by my cell phone at 6:00. Thank goodness because sometime during my short slumber, our power must have gone off because my alarm clock was flashing 12:00. I quickly jumped out of bed with worry and fear thinking that for someone to be calling so early something must be wrong. I had no idea what time it actually was because it surely felt like I'd only just fallen back to sleep.
On the other end was my mother. I answered the phone, "Are you all right???" Her response was a "Yes" followed by a pause. My heart rate must have tripled at this very moment. "Is everyone else all right?" Her answer was again the same. She then began to tell me that her house was okay and my sister who lives right beside her was okay, but my brother's home was not. They had a tree in their kitchen! Said tree had also fallen across not one, but both of their vehicles! They are okay and so is their dog. I am glad everyone is okay, but they are all without electricity due to downed power lines. They had to cut a tree out of the road to get to my brother, his wife, and their 2 year old daughter and the road was closed going on into town.
