What's Good For The Goose...

Working Tyler
I am a firm believer in teaching boys just what you teach girls when it comes to cleaning the house, doing chores, etc.  I think that my daughter should learn how to mow the yard, change a tire, take out the trash just as I think my son should learn how to do laundry, dishes, and vacuum. On  Easter Sunday we were cleaning up after dinner and Tyler offered to do the dishes.  Since we have a dishwasher, the dishes really only include sippy cups and things that aren't dishwasher safe.  He had a great time and I took advantage of the photo opp.  How do you feel about this issue?

My thoughts:  I hope that my children grow up to be self-sufficient, independent adults.  I think that teaching them to be flexible, diverse, and open minded can broaden their horizons and when they move out of "the nest" they will be well prepared to live on their own.  Unless they happen to stumble upon a hidden treasure of gold bullion or the likes, I think that it's a great idea for any parent!

I so agree with you - equality definitely!

Both my boys can look after themselves. They can both cook and the youngest one is a better cook than me!

My youngest LOVES to do the dishes. It is a real treat to him. It doesn't matter to me that he thinks he needs to be in water elbow deep (or that I have to put a towel under his chair to catch the runoff) while he is washing.

My hubby loves to cook, clean, do laundry, basically all the girlie chores.
I thank my mother in law OFTEN for teaching him how to do these things. (because frankly I have no idea how to change the oil and refuse to mow the yard)

Hopefully some day my daughters in law will thank me for teaching my boys!

I agree with you too!
Our son enjoys cooking and our daughter shovels snow. We'll have to work on some of the other stuff around the house.

Good for you Tisha, for starting them early.

Cute pic of Tyler.

I wish I learned fix-it stuff... Well, I am now that I've got hubby... but girls like to learn the guy stuff, too! It's all about being well-rounded.
