Your First Ammendment Rights Do Not Include Stupidity!

As some of you may or may not know, the US Supreme Court declined to hear a case brought by the state of Missouri banning protesters from funerals. This case stemmed from a group of so called Baptists. I, for one refuse to refer to these monsters as Baptists. There is no way that God would condone such behavior. These people are idiots who take advantage of their first amendment rights at the most inappropriate time possible.

Let me explain for those of you who have not heard of this group of gay-hating, anti-war, small minded (so called) "Baptists" from Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka Kansas. I refuse to link to them here but their domain name includes "godhatesfags". These people travel all over this great country, attending funerals of fallen soldiers. They carry signs that would make any red-blooded American's red blood boil! I cannot even imagine saying the things that these signs proclaim to anyone, much less to a mother after her son has given his life so I could stand on that street corner and protest!!! They protest at the funerals of fallen soldiers. Yes, you read that correctly! They protest at the funerals of fallen soldiers!! The thought of this makes my stomach turn. This has to be one of the best appetite suppressants ever. I can only imagine the pain that a family goes through after sacrificing a loved one in such an unselfish way. It is something that I have never experienced and pray every day that I never have to.

I just can't understand where these people think that they are in the right. No matter how you feel about our country, our government, or our military what right does that give you to make an appearance at a funeral holding a sign that says that God hated that person so that their family could see. What makes anyone in their right mind think that God HATES anybody?! Aren't Christians supposed to LOVEstand and unite against such action everyone as GOD loved everyone?! As a country, I believe that we should ! There is a time and a place for everything. This is clearly not appropriate. Click this link and find out just how hateful these people are!!! This is an interview with Shirley Phelps-Roper as she protested at a funeral in Arlington National Cemetery. This woman spits pure hatred as she speaks about the impending doom of our nation and how this country is waiting to "vomit". We're all going to be running for the hills because we've called God a liar one too many times. Come on, woman p-uhlease?! Get your head out of the sand and get some love in your heart!

America, no matter whether or not you support the war in Iraq, our president, or gay marriage surely you have a daughter, son, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, father, mother, neighbor, or friend who has served this great nation. What if you were attending their funeral and had to walk past signs that degraded them and rejoiced their death? It's unimaginable and should NOT be allowed. An anti-protest law needs to be upheld stating that NO ONE should be allowed to protest within boundaries of a funeral, first amendment or not! Let them go the steps of the US Capital, Congress, Supreme Court, or wherever else they feel the need to spit their venom, but keep them away from funerals. It's unnecessary and repulsive!

...and in my best Forrest Gump voice, "That's all I've got to say about that." :)
I'm putting away my soap box and going to bed now.

i don't understand these kind of people either, but i don't want to hate them for doing that because it's like I'm stooping down to their level but it doesn't mean that I tolerate them.I simply don't know how to react.I don't know.

Those folks are not true Baptists, fer sure...

Ya know, I remember singing a hymn in church that said, "They know we are Christians by our love..."

Love is what binds us brothers... not hate.

They are absolutely appalling. On the other end, I've heard of a Biker Club that also arrives at those same funerals and creates a border to protect the grieving family from the protestors. I hope there's enough bikers to continue to do that now.

Yes, Lisa you are correct that there are a group of motorcyclists called The Freedom Riders who usually form a barricade the family from the protesters. They are generally three bikers deep and wide enough to cover the perimeter.

I love the Freedom Riders. I saw a group of them a while back, and the kids and I waved and smiled and saluted them. They were next to us at a stop light, and the rest of the drive I couldn't help but cry. The military connection runs deep in my family. And the fact that my parents fled their home country and eventually made their way here so that they could live in freedom makes me so proud of people like the Freedom Riders.

Anyone who preaches hatred is in no way a Christian. Anyone who condemns others because they are, as some so-called Christians say, "against God's will" is blatantly ignorant of God's will and the way of Jesus. Jesus was not exclusive; HE was the one who talked to, embraced, and lived among the outcasts of society. THAT is the Christian way.

Thank you for taking a stand. This is sad and pathetic. It's my first visit here, and I say hooray!
