Conversations with Tyler

As we were shopping at Wal-Mart, this conversation transpired as Tyler and I were picking out some tomatoes from the produce department. There was a lady nearby on a ladder hanging Christmas decorations.

Tyler: Mommy, what's that lady doing on that ladder?

Me: *sigh* She's hanging Christmas decorations.

Tyler: Why?

Me: Because Christmas is just a couple of months away.

Tyler: When we get home, can we put up our Christmas decorations?

Me: *shuddering at the thought* No, son we don't put up our decorations until December.

Maybe next year we'll just skip Halloween and Thanksgiving and put Christmas up after the 4th of July. Whaddya think?! When do you typically put up your Christmas decorations? Since Shelby's birthday is the 29th of November, we refrain from any decorations until after then. We'll put up our tree and decorations the first weekend in December. That's soon enough for me!!!

I am not even kidding you when I tell you that last week I heard a Christmas song on the radio.

I know.

Ugh, I wish they would keep Christmas in December where it belongs! I hate that the stores get out all the Christmas stuff before Halloween is even over. The first day of November a radio station here started their "All Christmas music, all the time" thing, and I was shocked. We don't get any decorations or anything out until December. I like to enjoy each holiday thoroughly before going on to the next one.

We have always put ours up the weekend of Thanksgiving. If I had my way I would keep my house decorated for Christmas all year long...:)

I so know what you mean here! It seems like Thanksgiving has been thrown to the wolves as it's not a big retail holiday and has been taken over by the Ghost of Christmas Presents.

It's all very sad and it makes me definitely yearn for the Christmases when I was a kid and the season didn't officially start until after Santa arrived at the local department store - which was always in December!

Mags, I refuse to hear christmas music unless it's in the background playing as I shop. It's just TOO soon!

Cathy, to each her own my friend. But, I am ready to take mine down shortly after I get them up! *LOL*
The weekend of Thanksgiving is suitable, though since Christmas is the next holiday!

Linda, I remember going to the mall to see santa make his big arrival! :)

Bee, now that's what I'm talkin' about. BUT that's when people used real trees, right?

What Empress Bee said. We put up and decorated the Christmas tree on Christmas eve and down it went on New Years day. Wasn't very commercial back then like it is now.

Your little man is a cutie pie. Big hug and lotsa lovies. :)

We may put stuff up Thanksgiving weekend, but nothing gets lit until at least Thanksgiving Day is over.

We'll probably put ours up the first weekend in December - for the same reason. :)

It always does seem to get earlier and earlier doesn't it. We traditionally wait until Thanksgiving weekend. Even though the stores do it earlier, we hold to that time frame.

I have had much of christmas decorations the last few years because we go to my mom's for christmas..She decks her house out. It's cool...

But, back in the day on Christmas Eve when I had my first Christmas divorced the kids and I opened our presents at the stroke of midnight...After all Santa wasn't gonna show up the kids had gotten older and will Santa left with Dad you could say... Me and the kids had the best Christmas that year and also since the kids were 11 and 13 we slept in Christmas Morning. Why were we not at my Mom's in California... I don't remember.. I don't know why I just wrote all that guess something jogged my memory and it spewed out...

Yeah don't decorate yet..

There is this one house down the road from me that--no kidding!--has their Christmas Tree up the day after Halloween. I saw it twinkling in their window the other day. Crazy!

We usually put our first tree up (our artificial one; we always get a live tree also, but it usually takes a lttle longer) the weekend after Thanksgiving. I love Thanksgiving too much to let it get swarmed in by Christmas (although i have already bought a lot of my presents already!).

We always wait until after Thanksgiving! I hate it when I go in BEFORE halloween and see Christmas decorations up. Ugh.

Our tradition is ... me dragging everything up from the basement on Friday morning and us decorating at dusk on Friday after Thanksgiving. Usually with Christmas music playing and hot coco sipping.

I should go on and say my thinking is...I did all this work and cleaning. I'm going to keep this crap up as long as possible. I also take it down as soon as possible after christmas. Once it's over it's over.
