Me: You mean your middle name? It's Lynn.
Shelby: Yes, my middle name. Shelby Lynn Black. That's my whole name.
Me: You have the same middle name as daddy.
Shelby: Daddy Black Lynn? That's a funny name.
Me: (Laughs) No, silly Brien Lynn Black is is real name. Daddy is just what you call him.

One day when my son was about two, my husband (who NEVER calls me by my first name) called me, "Babe" in order to get my attention. My son heard him and said, "That's not Babe. That's MAMA!"
