From Fire Trucks to Box Cars

We didn't get to go on our field trip to the fire station (as mentioned in the post below) due to bad weather. We've had storms and lots of rain. Apparently there is an outside activity involving electricity that can't be done in the rain so they will reschedule it but have yet to do so.

Next activity is Friday...the box car derby. Car building is in progress! Of course hubby is the one doing the overall design of the car. Tomorrow Shelby and I will put the final "girlie" finishing touches on it. Have any of you built box cars with your children? If so, who did what?! How did they do in the race? I'm excited to hear your input since this is our first time to participate in such an event.

the soap box derby cars were always a conundrum. MOST of the cars (all except two or three) had significant parental help. If the kids made the cars mostly on their own..they didn't have a chance to win.

Since Dad had experience in car building I merely obtained all the needed supplies...and turned over all other responsibilies to him. Including the girly stuff....he had a daughter...he needed to know about the girly stuff...smile.

How fun, but never did this with my son. Just wasn't something done around here that I know of. Sure sounds like a great family affair though. Have a blast honey. Big hug and lotsa lovies. :)

Nope, I've never built a box car either as a child or with my own kids! Have fun with that.

I remember when my kids went to the fire stations, though, for field trips. When they were in preschool, they got to shoot water from the hose. You can imagine how fun that is for four-year-olds!
