The Box Car Derby

Gentlemen Ladies, start your engines!
Friday was the Twelfth Annual Box Car Derby at my daughter's Elementary School. This is a big event not only for the students and teachers but also for the proud parents who tire effortlessly for days creating those masterpiece box cars.

Unfortunately Shelby did not win her race, but she had so much fun! The best part about it was that she got to race beside her friend. The girls completed the race and returned to the start/finish line and prepared to run the course again. They were disappointed that they only got to race one time. Shelby was very proud of her car and I think that the time that she got to spend with her daddy as they designed and built it was priceless and something that she will never forget. In her mind she was a winner before she stepped on the track and her daddy was proud. The smiles that radiated from their faces made me so proud of both of them!

I saw my husband's brain in overtime as he was taking in all of the design ideas from cars of the other children. There were fire trucks, Nascar replicas, Lightning McQueens, and even a John Deere Tractor! We have two younger children so we will get to do this two more times. Emily is the lucky one. By the time she gets to Kindergarten Dad will be a design pro and she can get track tips from her big brother and sister!
