The Big Day!

Today was the big day for my baby girl. I know, I know...she's not a baby anymore. She's officially a "school girl" now. She started Kindergarten and I must say that watching her walk out that door with her backpack on got me a bit teary eyed, but I managed to fight back the tears. We got in the truck and Tyler asked where we were going. I told him he was going to see his friends (at daycare) and that Shelby was going to Kindergarten. He informed me that Kindergarten was tomorrow and Shelby was going to school with him today! The poor little guy was NOT happy to see sister leave with me after I dropped him off.

We got to school, and I'm sure as with most schools on the first day it was very chaotic with lots of parents everywhere. I gathered her around for some quick photo opps. I fought back the tears until we were waiting for her to enter her classroom and the teacher informed us that we could not go in with our children. We were to say our goodbyes in the hallway and then leave promptly. She was very excited and didn't seem in the least bit nervous to me! She did mention that she wanted me to walk her to her desk because she was afraid she couldn't remember which one was hers, but I told her that I couldn't and all she had to do was look for her name. She was fine with it then. I gave her a kiss on the cheek and a hug. Then I realized that I got lip stick marks on her cheek. As she was walking into her classroom I was trying to give her a spit bath. Tears were streaming down my face as I walked out the door knowing that my little girl is grown up, and she's doing it right before my eyes...way too fast!

She was full of stories as I picked her up this afternoon and she is anxious for her return tomorrow. What a relief! Now, one is in school it's time to bring another one into the world. Stay tuned...

What a milestone! I cried when mine went off to Kindergarten, too. It was hardest with the YOUNGEST because when he went to school there was NO ONE at home for me to take care of! So I got a puppy. Hee!

One more week and it's back-to-school here - and milestones at the Bubba's Sis house. Little Son is starting Junior High and Daughter is starting High School!! What happened to my babies?!?!?

(Hmmm....I just got a new puppy a few months ago...I'm sensing a theme here....)

How exciting! Jake meets his teacher next week and doesn't really start until Sept. 2nd.

I hope she has a great first day. Can't wait to hear about it!

Fun stuff, isn't it? My son just started middle school. Hey, I'm not even 40 (well, not yet, anyway)! I'm not old enough to have a child in middle school.

My daughter entered the second grade and that wasn't much fun, either.

Your daughter looked raring to go, however. That's a good sign!

I must be the only mother on the face of the earth who didn't cry when my kids started school. I know that with my oldest I was doing a happy dance as I was a single mom trying to pay outrageous daycare fees when he first started kindergarten so that was a major relief and with the girls, I just never teared up there either. Or maybe I did and I just don't remember it ... wish I had been blogging way back then as then I could look it up and now for sure!

Shelby looks proud and happy to be a school girl and I'm sure you're proud and happy for her in spite of the tears!

She looks like she was thrilled and while I know it was a challenge for you, it is a step in the process of their growth.

I know I'll be going through the same feelings on Tuesday next weeek when Emma starts preschool, it's not even Kindergarten yet but just the 2 half days a week of preschool will make me feel all of these emotions! I hope she loves school and has no mean kids in class!

Oh, how I remember those exact feelings Tish. Hugs honey, it gets better. She is just darling. I miss dressing my daughter in her cute little pony tails with pretty ribbons in them. Now she gives me advice on what to wear and she now she does MY hair! LOL! Oh the pain of getting older. Ouch!

Any contractions yet? Just wondering. ;-)

Hugs,
Kimmie

I was so not ♥ing the rule about not entering the classroom. I had to write a post just about that. I was all practical until I realized my youngest was leaving--and it was all-day kindergarten and I would be all grown up with no kids around during the day and it all just hit and I turned into sensitive, sentimental mom which made for a very long drive home.

The good, and more important news, is that the kids love it and are super happy!
