Sweet Nectar
Last night as I was cooking dinner and my daughter ran into the house exclaiming,
"Mommy, these things have honey inside!"
I turned to see her holding this in her hand:I didn't even realize that we had honeysuckles in our yard. I asked her where she found them and she showed me. I was excited because I remember as a child how much I loved to snack on the nectar hidden inside of these sweet treats! Shelby and I indulged on a few of them and I took the opportunity to snap a few photos.

You can eat honeysuckle? I didn't know that! I have used nasturiums in salads though.
Oh I remember snacking on the honeysuckle nectar too! :)
I've never tried that before. It must have been fun for Shelby.
I did that when I was little.
I was doing the same thing over 6o years ago.
On this Memorial Day remember my friends who died for your freedom.
Dear Lord, lest I continue in my complacent ways, help me to remember that someone died for me today. And if there be war, help me to remember to ask and to answer “am I worth dying for?”~

Fun! I didn't know you could do that, either.
oh my what a lovely memory that stirred!!! it grew on the back fence of our yard and as we walked up the alley back there speaking in whispers as little girls will do, we sucked on the little stems for that one drop of nectar and the smell was delicious! thanks tish!!! the year would have been 1950.

I didn't realize you could actually eat honeysuckle right off the plant.
Travis = city boy.
Yes, you can eat them, but you sure don't want them in your yard. That are like kudzu...they'll take over anything! Sweet memories, though.
I knew there was a flower called "honeysuckle" but have never seen one, smelled one, or tasted one!
I didn't even know you could eat them, or that they had honey inside.
How strange! :)
Wishing you a wonderful Memorial Day holiday!
Wow, I didn't know you could eat it either! Then again I don't think I've ever actually seen honeysuckle. At least not that I know of. Strange. :)
Ooooh, I love honeysuckle! They smell so sweet, and sucking the nectar is fun!
I love the smell of honeysuckles. I so wish I had them in my yard!
