Shelby's Milestone

Shelby informed me on Saturday that she had a loose tooth. More importantly this was her FIRST loose tooth. I was pretty excited about it, but it wasn't that big of a deal to her. Most of her "friends" had already lost teeth so she knew all about it. *rolls eyes* Her dad tried to talk her into pulling her tooth all weekend. She refused to let us even touch it. I did manage to get her to open wide enough to snap this shot:When I got to daycare to pick her up yesterday the director came to me and informed me that she had pulled Shelby's tooth!!! WHAT?! I told her that Shelby's dad was NOT going to be happy b/c he'd been trying to pull it and she wouldn't let him. She was scared that I was serious. Obviously I was joking but it is funny how our children will trust other people before they will trust us! When I got to her classroom she showed me her tooth as well as the gaping hole it left in her mouth:I informed her that she got to put the tooth under her pillow tonight and the tooth fairy would come and bring her some money. She was very excited at this concept. We got her to go to bed without any fuss last night and she was quickly fast asleep. She woke up this morning to find five $1 bills under her princess pillow. She was excited as she counted out the dollars. Now I know this is the part where you say, "WOW, $5 maybe I should pull out my teeth to pay for gas back and forth to work." I have one word to explain my train of thought on this one, inflation! What can you buy with a buck? Also, that first tooth is special. She showed me the money:Then she was looking under her pillow again. She asked, "Where's my tooth?" Ummm...well, errr, the tooth fairy kept it. *blink*
"Why did she keep my tooth?"
"Because she collects them in exchange for money."
"Well, what does she do with them, why would she want teeth?"
...by this time I am thinking to myself, did I ask my mom this many questions about getting money under my pillow?! I think NOT! So, I quickly nipped the 21 question game in the bud by asking what she wanted to buy with her money. That did the trick, she was spouting off ideas all morning. She was still full of ideas by the time I picked her up from daycare this afternoon! The trouble is that all of her ideas were way more expensive than five bucks!!!

Yep, get used to them trusting others more than you and hubby. It's just what happens. Wow, 5 bucks. I used to get a quarter and that was a lot of money back then. What a great post Tisha. I love your posts about your babies. Have a great one. Big hug. :)

Shelby looks so happy and proud. We didn't have a Tooth Fairy when we were growing up. My son has read stories about the Tooth Fairy and he's very intrigued about the whole idea.

If you have time, I tagged you to share a favorite toy.

That's cute. She looks very happy.

My daughter would go to bed like a good girl every night but easter bunny night and tooth fairy night. She said the easter bunny "creepied" her out. Yes, as a small tiny toddler. Then the tooth fairy came and she said, mom I think it is scary that someone comes in my room while I sleep and touches my pillow. So we had to rearrange things. We left the tooth fairy a note. She always leaves money but never enters the room to take the tooth.

She would probably hate me sharing this. LOL

The tooth fairy needs a lot of money these days doesn't she? :)

Congrats to Shelby! Hannah has been anxiously awaiting her first loose tooth, after watching Abby lose 5 of hers already. Not a one is loose yet though.

We give $1 per tooth - and then take them to the dollar store. That way they can pick out whatever they want without having to worry about if they can afford it or not. :)

Awww, congrats to your princess. That's exciting. I miss the days that I believed in Santa & the Tooth Fairy.

We did $5 for the first tooth too, and then $1 thereafter. Sometimes they can break you in a week.
What a great milestone.

That is so cute! The tooth fairy just visited my son about 2 weeks ago. The next day he asked me where I keep his teeth! Guess he's figured that one out.

There used to be a little blue plastic box that had all my baby teeth in it. I wonder if my mom still has it.

That would be weird, wouldn't it?

When Wren found out that the tooth fairy keeps the teeth, she refused to put any more under the pillow.

So I, er.... the tooth fairy has one in a special place and Wren has two safely hidden.

Money can't buy it, yeah...

Five bucks!
Crap, we were happy with a quarter!

My mom (aka the Tooth Fairy) kept our teeth in a little box, and when we were older (I think like 13 and could appreciate things other than quarters) we got our box of teeth back! Is that weird???

love ya (and the toothless one!)

Funny how she was WAY more excited to show you her missing tooth for the camera than her loose tooth. :)

Congrats to her... that IS a big milestone. I vaguely remember losing my first tooth. I'm 33.
