Special Birthday Wishes
Today is the 25th anniversary of the first :-), the smiley emoticon that has become ubiquitous in e-mail messages, online postings and instant messages.
Scott Fahlman, a professor at Carnegie Mellon, says he was the first to use the symbol in something he published on Sept. 19, 1982.
You may know some of the original :-)'s relatives:

Who knows when they originated, but Happy Birthday to them too! *LOL* (and happy birthday to you too, LOL)

I just saw that on the news. How can anyone actually prove they were the first person to use an emoticon? I'm just saying . . .
