A Fresh New Start

This is Tyler's second week at day care. He is doing so much better! He's still crying when I drop him off. I think that this will probably happen for a long time. Shelby did it for a while and she was a year older than he was when she started. They say that he's doing much better during the day. He's adjusting a lot faster than I (and the teachers) thought he would. They told me today when I picked him up that he had fun playing outside today and that he danced with the class!

The nicest part for me has been the commute. There isn't one now! He stayed with my mother in law before. They live about 30 minutes away from us. So, I had to drive out there and back every single day. That's an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon. So, it took a toll on me. By the time we got home in the evenings and I got dinner ready it was late and I was cranky. There was no time in the evenings for tidying, playing, etc. It was all business. Now, we can sleep in a bit in the mornings and I have time to fix breakfast. It's very nice in the afternoons to get home and not have to go STRAIGHT to the kitchen to begin dinner. I actually have time with the kids, and time for tidying up leaving more free time on the weekends as well!

The downfall is that my mother in law will have NO grandchildren at her house after next week when my nephews start back to school. It's been really hard on her. I think that there is a bit of resentment toward me because I "took him away" from her so to speak. I know that it's been as hard on her as anyone. But, hopefully it'll give her a chance to accomplish some things that she couldn't do before because she had him to care for.

Right now, I am happy with my decision. I hope that I continue to stay that way. Only time will tell!

This post really hits close to home for me. I am in the search for a daycare for my 19 month old. It is tough for me... and I know it is going to be tougher for him. I stayed home with my older 2 kids and it is SO different to work while my 3rd is so young.

Not looking forward to those bye bye tears each morning!

Sounds to me like you made the right decision. It's so important to have that time with the kids--and even the extra hour or two makes a huge difference!!!

I'm glad to hear that Tyler is adjusting, I was hoping that he would after a fashion. It's tough on everyone at first but it sounds like you made the right decision all the way around.

Enjoy that little bit of free time you have now!

I'm SO happy for you all!!! I used to drive an hour each way before and after work in order to get my kids to my cousin's for babysitting. I was chronically worn out! I'm sure this is less strain on the kids, too. Tyler has the sweetest smile ever. That's got to make meemaw know that everyone is doing the right thing. Maybe she can pick them up occasionally on the weekends...Give you guys some huggin' time!
