Waiting In Line
Last night my daughter and I picked up a few things we needed from Wal-Mart. We went to get milk and diapers. Well, we ended up spending over $100. It was expensive milk and diapers to say the least. We had enough items to take up the whole belt. I proceeded to load everything onto the belt as the cashier finished with the family in front of us. She took the lady's check and there was some sort of problem. The check would not read or it declined it. I'm not sure really where the problem was because I tried to keep my daughter occupied and eyes of the "impulse buys" at the register. Sure we could use a curly fry maker, salad shooter, and all the candy you can eat, but not tonight. I had to have enough money to buy my milk and diapers!
I guess the lady had enough of the cashier attempting to process her check and finally spoke in a loud voice at her and said, "Would you please just quit wasting my time and go get a supervisor to do it right!" The poor girl was obviously frazzled and she turned on her light and attempted one more time for success. Her failure was only making Dragon Lady more angry. Finally she stepped away from her register and got the supervisor. The supervisor asked Dragon Lady if she could help. Her response was, "I'm just trying to pay!!! The girl could not get my check to read."
To which the supervisor replied, "It declined your check, ma'am."
To which Dragon Lady responded, "No it didn't, she hit that button b/c she tried so many times."
The supervisor put in her keys and pushed a few buttons to which it manually accepted Dragon Lady's tender.
Dragon Lady told her that she didn't mean to "make the girl cry", she just wanted to pay for her groceries and "get outta here".
The supervisor informed Dragon Lady, who was obviously very concerned about the girl with whom she spoke with such tenderness to only moments earlier that today was the cashier's first day.
Dragon lady proceeded to rip the receipt from the supervisor's hand and nearly slapped me with her tail as she turned to leave.
As the supervisor began to ring up my "milk & diapers" I secretly wished that was all I had b/c I would've been on my way home a long time before. She called out to the girl who was sobbing uncontrollably and asked her if she could finish up with me. She just stood there looking terrified. I wanted to tell her to RUN FOR THE HILLS because it was not going to get any better. The supervisor told her to go to the back and get a drink and she could come back after a "break".
The moral of this story is c'mon people...get a grip! Do you have to be so freakin' mean!?!?! I mean, seriously we would ALL rather be at home watching Grey's Anatomy than at wal-mart fighting the crowds with family in tow, but do you have to take it out on the poor girl who rings up your groceries. To the DRAGON LADY, I say Shame on you!! I know your momma taught you better than that. Just think of how you'd feel if you knew that was your teenage daughter someone was talking to like that, or better yet...YOU!
BE NICE, people...'cause ya know it's true "What goes around comes around!"
HAVE A GREAT DAY, and next time when ya go shopping try this...smile at everyone you see. It makes the trip less agonizing, and you might just make someone's day!

I know some people like that. I had the most mean boss ever before and he wouldn't mind seeing you cry like that poor girl...
So very true. People can be very mean and probably don't realize that karma sucks.
Some people have no manners and no respect for others around them. Shame on her!
It just amazes me that people can be so horribly rude. And you know if anyone treated Dragon Lady like that, she'd have an absolute flaming fit. Unbelievable.
Aw, poor cashier girl :( I hate when people are mean like that.
what people don't seem to remember at that particular moment, is that we were all the "new girl" once.
Poor girl, poor customer who most likely hadn't had a good day either and the Walmart adventure was the straw that broke the camels back. I hope it goes better for the cashier, working with the public is not for the faint of heart
well i was on the other side of that walmart deal tonight! i was worn out and had a cart full and needed hand soap. i looked and looked. i found an employee and asked her. she said aisle 4. i went and looked, no numbers, i went back and said where, there are no numbers and she said count. i said from which way, meantime i am DRAGGING now! she sighed and turned away. freak. so the moral is, sometimes it's not us, it's them! smiles, bee
Yes, Bee I worked there for 7 years. I can understand both sides of the desk. The thing is that some people just have impatience in their nature and they do not care who it hurts. Some people do not care whether or not they help customers. They do not realize that without customers they would not have jobs. But, that is part of what makes the world go around, I suppose. I think that the lady was out of line, no matter how bad of a day she'd had. It was clearly no reason to be as hateful as she was to the girl. I just wonder if the girl came back from her break or just clocked out and went home.
