Living in the olden days...

So, the great thing about cooking with electricity...well, there is no great thing about cooking with electricity!!!

I was in the middle of cooking dinner last night and the power went out. The first thing I did was scramble to the office and find the last electric bill and make sure it was paid. When I discovered that we were paid up, I began hunting for my cell phone. It was one bar from being dead!! So, I quickly dialed up the 1-800 number. Why in the crap can't they just put the numbers on there...I had to hunt and peck the letters out. So, anyhow I got them on the line and my cell phone gets crappy service in the house. But, our phones are all electric so I could not dial out on anything but that. I move around in a position in the house where I could halfway hear the friendly robotic voice on the other end telling me to press one for English.

After I got through the whole spill they inform me that it will be 1.5 - 2 hours until my power is restored! Keep in mind that I am right IN THE MIDDLE of cooking dinner. I had already gotten home late due to working out and tanning in preperation for my little sister's wedding Saturday. I was furious. I had half cooked ground beef on the stove. I was making tacos. There was half melted velveeta in the microwave for cheese dip.

My 3 year old kept screaming that she wanted to turn the lights on. She wondered why the t.v. would not work! *LOL* So, finally we all migrated outside and played for a while. We played with the new puppy. He loved it. I also pulled weeds in her play area. I moved one of her toys and low and behold there was a nest of hornets underneath. So, I was surprised with a stick on the end of my middle finger. It is still sore this morning.

The power was restored about 1.5 hours later. I cooked dinner, got one load of laundry washed and dried, and made it to bed around 11ish!! Arrrghhhh...

That sucks! We have been lucky enough to have a gas stove at our last two houses. Comes in handy sometimes.

So do you do the lay down tanning bed? Or the stand up one? Didn't know I was so schooled up on tanning beds did you?

David, I use a lay down bed cause where I tan the stand up ones cost more...

Renee' that has been the case at our house lately too. Seems like there is less and less time at night for cooking. But, just so happened I was cooking a quick meal. The ONE night that week I didn't grab a bag!!!
